Actually someone asked a similair(ish) question and this was the answer:
This one is more for teenagers and older. I mean children will still love it, but this one deals more with the family life and love, especially respecting yourself. That's a huge one for this version.
He/she also said there are only two TINY scenes that focus on Lucifer and the mice, so I'm guessing that the stepfamily are the most important supporting characters in the movie, as opposed to the animals who were the most important supporting characters in the animated movie. The person also said there's an explanation for the way the stepmother behaves and he/she loved her as much as he/she hated her so it makes sense they have more screentime than the animals.

I also like the fact that the message in this movie seems to be 'respecting yourself'. A lot of recent Disney movies have this message (WIR, Frozen) and I really like it :)

I think he/she just meant "more than the mice", which is what I always expected.

More updates.

Mine again.
Q: Would you mind describing the stepmother's look in this film? I'm really interested in how her hair is arranged and if she has her cane like in the 1950 film. I won't ask about her dresses as I know Sandy Powell is remarkably talented.
And did Kenneth somehow remake this scene?

A: Not sure which scene that photo is from.
The way the stepmother was dressed was very fashion forward, nothing like the way she was dressed in the animated. Her hair was a gorgeous red, kinda 1920s to me.
Q: Oh, like Anastasia's! That's when she realizes Cinderella was the one who danced with the prince. I always loved what they did with her eyes in that scene.
Q: What do the slippers look like? how was the search done, just with the family or do we see other townswomen try on the slipper?
A: The slipper was mainly CGI, there are points where it is an actual GLASS pump though. VERY high heel, very beautiful glass shoe, but she never actually wears that one. Yes they do show many women trying it on all around the kingdom, it's made a point of actually!
Q: How was the chemistry between Cinderella and the Prince?
A: I've always had issues with the "love at first sight" things in Disney as I don't believe in it frankly...so I'll say it's very traditional Disney how they are together.
By the way, if you'd like to ask him/her something, but don't have an account at the Internet Movie Database, I can do it for you. Just let me know.

I'm so glad they didn't go all fairytale origin story on this with silly battles and random CG fairies flying at you in 3D (I'm looking at you Maleficent, Oz, Alice and Snow White and the Huntsman), but a lovely, simple retelling for the story.

I agree about Cinderella not following a fairytale origin/battle path, but at least with Maleficent it does make sense for the world they live in to be torn by war.

I love hearing all these great things about the film! Another response from someone who saw it was that the movie was pretty good. There is still a lot of tweaking to do before it's released, but the cast was incredible.

Jolly good news that everything has been coming back as positive about the movie …. one can only presume (and hope!) it won't go downhill from now until release!

Q: Are there singalongs just as in the cartoon? Also, do the mice help Cinderella alter her dress?
A: No to both. This isn't a musical and is more realistic, with magic only being in one part with the godmother.

Ooohhh!!! This film will be more more for older audiences? Wow!!! And I was worried when some reports from CinemaCon said it would only appease the kids and princess crowd and people said it was cute. And I'm also so glad to read it will be about familial relationships and love and respecting yourself!

Thank you supertalies, I guess that is what they meant, the stepfamily and animals will be reversed in supporting role importance. That's great! And yes, I'm also glad about this film's "respecting yourself" theme! And also thank you Old Fish Tale.

Thanks for more questions and answers Old Fish Tale, I like your questions! I was hoping the stepmother would look close to the animated one (well, I hoped pretty much everything would look close to the original, lol), but I am interested to see her new look, though I hope she doesn't have an actual 1920's hair look. I like that Anastasia and her will have similar hair colors, like mother like daughter. I hope she has her cane, but I doubt this version of the character would. I'm excited to see the glass slipper! Interesting that it will sometimes be CGI. I'm glad we get to see the other women trying on the slipper! How interesting and exciting the scene where the stepmother figures out Cinderella was the one at the ball will be in it, but "better"! I was hoping the mice would work on her dress, but half hoping they wouldn't because it wouldn't fit how the rest of this realistic version sounds. I love that Cinderella and the Prince will have love at first sight just like in the original! Except I expect they will have more chemistry (well, more shown chemistry).

Lol I agree completely! Except this film reportedly will have an evil plot about the prince and an arranged marriage, so it won't be just the original story.

Wait, why does it make sense for Maleficent?

I do have some questions I want to ask that person on IMDB, Old Fish Tale. First is, are they a man or a woman, lol. And then, does the Fairy Godmother have a magic wand? And does she ever say "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo"?

You know there's one thing I'm worried about. That this film is being shown so early and having critiques by audience members at the end. I hope that no audience members change this for the worst. I also don't see what much Disney could do except cut stuff, since they couldn't get everyone to get back in costumes and sets and re-shoot stuff, so I really hope they don't cut anything I want.

It all sounds so incredibly wonderful!!!

Disney Duster wrote: Wait, why does it make sense for Maleficent?
Because it is open to have that bit of darkness in the world of Sleeping Beauty (remember Maleficent in the animated movie treated the whole situation like an act of war anyway) and King Henry's army to attack the fairy kingdom and Maleficent protecting it from them fits naturally compared to Alice in Wonderland which none of that could ever work in a "war context" because the world of Wonderland isn't fit for that sort of thing.

Disney Duster, here's your answer. And she's a woman, by the way...
Q: Lydia, this is a question from someone who doesn't have an IMDB account: Does the Fairy Godmother have a magic wand? And does she ever say "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo"? It would mean the world to him if you answered. Thanks again.
A: There was a wand, but no spell words.
Q: How was Lily as Cinderella ? Did she do justice to the character?
A: She did pretty well, believable, which was important with live action.
Q: What was Stellan Skarsgard's character like? And how much new stuff was added?
A: He did well, and as for new stuff...it was more plotline holes that were filled for this one that got left out in the animation.
Q: OMG you´re so lucky, i was wondering if you could told me about 2 things, first is about how she becomes a servant i mean how does it happen, what does the stepmother and stepsisters tell her and the other thing is how is her servant dress, in the original movie i always though it was really clean and plain, how is this one? what kind of shoes does she wear with it? Thanks a lot for answering all our questions =D
A: I think I'd be giving up too much with explaining how she becomes a servant, as that process is shown in detail. Her dress is semi clean actually. And she's wearing basic slippers most of the time.
Q: Oh thanks, but can you say how do they change her dresses? and also could you describe the rest of her servant dress? thanks a lot =)
A: Both are difficult to explain as I know nothing of fashion, the servant dress was a basic blue dress to me, sorry. And the change to the ballgown is another that should be left to when seen.
Q: Oh, i meant when they change her from her fine dresses to the servant dress, anyway, did she had an apron? and the other thing is do they give relevance to her name changing? Thanks a lot really Lydia ^_^
A: to answer that would give away too much of the plot. and yes they do explain the name change.

I get your point Musical Master, but I didn't really think a war between fairies and humans made all that much sense even for that movie, lol.

Anyway, omg Old Fish Tale thank you so, so, so, so, so much. I was really worried there would be no magic wand because no reporters mentioned it, and when I was little the magic wand was one of my favorite things in the movie, so...

Omg omg omg wow wow wow it's a magical dream come true!!!!!

And the rest of the details, they are fantastic too! Lily James did a believable job? That's great! And I was worried the new stuff would change the story too much, but if it just fills in parts in the original story, that's great!!!

True, not in Sleeping Beauty, but when Maleficent comes out, I'll bet you it will certainly make sense unlike the last time Woolverton tried it...

But hearing what people have said about Cinderella has given me some hope about it. :D

Mine again.
Q: I remembered another one. We've already seen Major (Cinderella's horse) in that still, but is Bruno (Cinderella's dog) in the film too? And does the fairy godmother turned them into a coachman and a footman, respectively?
A: as for that whole scene...it was the best bit to me and i really don't wanna give away any of it more than i already have, only part i will say is the dog isn't there. i mean it's soo amazing and better than the original animation.
Q: I guess that changes the ending a bit too...
A: it's similar, but again, this is live action, this isn't as fake as the animation with talking animals in animal form, and animals that fully understand everything the humans are doing. this one is about the HUMANS.

So I wonder if that means Bruno isn't in the film at all, or just isn't there for the transformation... I would be bummed if he isn't in the film at all. I mean, all the other animals made it!

Yes, that answer wasn't very clear.

Here's an interesting update.
Q: Do the mice wear vests just like in the cartoon? And does the Godmother have bigger part here?
A: No to both. All animals are secondary characters as this is live action. All "magical" things are not the focus of this movie.
One of those trailer descriptions said they did. Perhaps they went back and changed that. I actually prefer if they keep the animals as realistic as possible.

To be honest, I've never been a fan of the animal characters in Cinderella; I find it irritating how they have just so much screen time, when Cinderella or the Prince could be focused on.

I find the King & Duke scenes more annoying.

To be honest yes, they irritate me a lot as well! There was just so much time given over to other characters, when I'm left wanting more ( a lot more) of Cinderella, her stepmother, and stepsisters.

I'm really glad and excited to hear the transformation scene is so amazing and "better" than the original animation, though nothing could ever be better than the original for me!

I forgot to wonder if the birds are in this as well. I want them to be in it, partly because it puts some of the Grimm's version in like the original was a mix of both Perrault's and the Grimm's.

It is really weird one report said the mice had clothes but this one says they didn't. I am sad the animals won't have clothes, if they did decide not to give them clothes. Maybe they can change it back to them wearing clothes.

I do like very much that this will focus more on the humans, though, and give more screentime to Cinderella, the Prince, and the stepfamily and improve on the original in that way. I cannot believe the Fairy Godmother won't be in this at least a little more than in the original, since she starts out as a beggar woman and I thought she would watch over Cinderella till the ball and I just feel like she would at least be seen at the end in the wedding and stuff like that.

I don't find it weird. They could be testing different versions of the film to see if some things work. Clothing the mice could be one of those things.

I want that too! Ella doesn't even need to notice her.
