Yeah- I didn't see any of the filming (wrong place at the wrong time, I guess), but I should rent it, if for nothing else other than to say- Hey, I've been there before!PeterPanfan wrote:It was filmed at your school?? How awesome!
Yes I think you should definitly rent it.
I've watched "Citizen Kane" a lot over the years (being a film student), and I think it is a really good movie, but it definitely isn't the best film ever (I mean, I haven't seen that many films compared to most people). Technologically, it was a breakthrough film, what with its lighting techniques and things like that, but, plotwise, although the plot is good, it just can't be the best...there are more entertaining films out there.Flanger-Hanger wrote:Citizen Kane (1941) also for the first time. A great movie definitely, although maybe no the best film of all time.

I Am Legend: It was decent, but I much prefer the old Vincent Price version (Last Man On Earth).
The Night Stalker: Awesome. I'm a big Kolchak fan. Will probably watch side two of the disc tonight, which has "The Night Strangler." I've had the DVD for quite a while but hadn't watched it in some time.

Just got back from watching Rambo and was not disappointed. I was not expecting a whole lot from this movie and was surprised as to how good it actually was. It is ultra-violent, very graphic, and the language is way overboard by a couple of the characters, but the story is really good and it is based on what is truly happening in Burma today. There has been a war going on for over 60 years, and it is out of control. Stallone looks great in the reprise of his infamous role, and the supporting cast is pretty good also. I would give this film a solid 3.5/5 stars.

The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

Blonde Ambition - I went into this expecting nothing more than a poorly-written film with horrible acting. Surprisingly, I was wrong. Jessica Simpson's performance actually wasn't half-bad! And while she definitely wasn't great, she's finally shown that she does, indeed, have potential as a comedic actress. As for the film as a whole, it was just a cute, simple romcom that doesn't require much thought. But with that being said, it definitely wasn't bad and I had a fun time watching it.
So ignore the biased, negative reviews from Jessica Simpson haters who haven't even seen the film. It's worth a rental, I promise!

finally saw the world famous :

and I've got to give it :

The acting's good, the visual design is great, all production values are high enough... But the director makes quite a few mistakes. He just borrows way too much from The Last House on the Left and The Evil Dead, characterization is sacrificed for a lot of bad humor, many sections of dialogue are in very poor taste, and the logic just becomes perposterous. Though, the music was great and the final twist was very amusing.
and, the fairly infamous :

What a great first half. With this movie, the tension is stronger than the gross-out quotient and it wins big points for that. Nobody enjoys watching torture movies. So I have to give it kudos for the great emphasis on nature. And it really looked like it was going somewhere, too. But like all horror movies this decade, the filmmakers just reach a point where they throw up their hands and say, "I don't care what we do anymore." All the great work from the beginning slowly begins to disintegrate.
First of all, the killer talks. And talks. And talks. Granted, he's surely a great deal less annoying than a good many other movie killers. But in the kinds of situations we're watching... Who exactly is going to enjoy him smiling, laughing, and cracking jokes???
Secondly, the "rear view mirror" shot. Hello?-who didn't see that coming from a million miles away? It's a famous urban legend that you always look into the ... before getting into a ... The shot is so obvious, that now you know exactly how the scene will play out.
Next thing, the "convenient driver" double-hitter. One victim is saved and the other doesn't live. Is that consistent with the movie? Surely not. Isn't it completely obvious given that when the 2nd victim is on the run, the movie still has a good chunk of time left, but when the 3rd victim takes off, the movie's almost over? Which one do you think is going to make it??
And finally, the ending. That deserves the big, royal WTF?!!! of the Year Award in Horror (that would have been 2005). Is the director insane to end the movie this way? He'd have to be. I think it stopped being a horror movie and abruptly became a conspiracy thriller. And the "disappearing in the sun" shot was so ridiculous, I didn't know how to contain myself from almost laughing. It was so shocking, that I couldn't laugh. But so surprising, that I had to make some kind of noise. And I did.
During any and every point in that first 40-45 minutes, if you had asked me, I would have said this movie is going to beat Hostel for #1 Torture-horror movie. Alas, Hostel is "still the one" to watch if you must watch one torture horror film. This movie will have you seeing spots.
and, the "Cult Classic" :

This one's going in the history books as one of the WORST MOVIES I've EVER SEEN. And that's saying something. It just barely outdoes the nearly-equally atrocious Dead Hate the Living (1999). It seems to be an "intentionally bad" film that tries to out-bad the most intentionally-bad movie on the planet (whatever that may be)... It succeeds. But, it's not fun. At all. If anyone's actually listening and you want to see a really good "intentionally bad" horror-comedy, make it the horrifyingly hilarious masterpiece- Cannibal! The Musical. It's actually entertaining. Not like this crap. Hell, just watch Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers.
and,

Some truly beautiful images and sequences... But... it's almost completely stupid and pointless. And most of the acting is off. Nothing means anything. Watch only if that's your thing.

The Monster Squad: Classic '80's kids' movie, though it had way too much cursing and stuff considering that fact. It's very dated and politically incorrect (and not always in a good way), and, unlike "Goonies," not quite as good as one remembers it, but still very entertaining. The thing they did so right was handling the monsters as serious threats, even though they had those comic-booky, iconic looks (like Drac with the fancy suit and black cape with high collar and red lining). Looking forward to checking out the extra features!
Red Riding Hood (2004). I'm big on this fairytale, so I HAD to check this out, but it was a terrible direct-to-video movie. It's live action, but with lots of CGI employed for backgrounds and BAD musical numbers that make "The Worst Witch" look good. My 4-year-old niece liked it though. Joey Fatone played the werewolf, and, surprisingly, was having so much fun with it that he was one of the more enjoyable aspects of the film. The girl in the lead role was also pretty good, but the film was so bad that this couldn't be much of a career booster. The scenes of grandma reading the story reminded me so much of Borgnine in "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders." For a good "Red Riding Hood," see the Cannon Movietale.
