Oh, I know! The part of the sequence that gets me especially is when after she leaves Copper alone and confused in the preservation, Widow Tweed looks back from her car and cries when she sees him.

The Fox and the Hound is such a range of emotions, that's why I love it so much. :)

Well, I literally JUST picked up my copy. YAY!!! (i've been longing to drive over to BestBuy and purchase TFatH since it came out (i acutally tried tuesday, but they were closed by the time I got there...:'()) And, I have yet to watch it, but ooooo...so SHINEY!!!

Anyway, has anyone else noticed that on the back of the coverart / slipcover, (in the fine print) it actually does say (and I quote) ""This film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit your TV."??? For me, this is definate proof that the film was originally in widescreen...why the heck would Disney keep saying that on the back of their FatH covers!?! Overall, if that's true, i'm dissapointed. But I guess if they ever rerelease it in it's OAR, then I can double dip. Which wouldn't be too horrible cause I rather like TFatH. :)

Oh, and another thing. It seems like very few people on this board have actually bought this DVD yet....is it because a lot of people already have the GC DVD and don't feel the need to upgrade?

Anyway, not after my semi-long post, i'm going to (finally) watch TFatH.... :D

"It has been formatted to fit your TV."

This is starting to make less sense every time I see it. How do they know what kind of TV you have. They are asuming that people have 4 x 3 ratio screens. I have a wide screen TV so it's not formated to fit my screen. So it's giving me false information. LOL!

Eventually though they will have to stop putting that on the DVDs as it will probably only be a few more years till they stop even making 4 x 3 ratio TVs.

James :)

I've watched part of the movie, and I have to say, the transfer is quite a disappointment. I was hoping for something better, but the transfer is similar to my VHS tape. I'm so happy that the "New Digital Transfer" that Disney promoted wasn't on this DVD

Anyway, the new "Forest Friendship Game" was actually kind of entertaining, I mean, entertaining for a 14 year old, I guess. The DVD Storybook literally took me 1 minute to read, and was worth the already not crammed disc. Hopefully, in 5 years, we will see a double disc/1 disc (Blu-Ray) set that will satisfy my wants for this truely good DAC. Unfortunately, this disc will have to do for now.

6/10

I second everything you just said. Well, except for the VHS quality...cause I wouldn't know...I don't have the VHS anymore. I did think that "Passing the Baton" featurette was interestng...not nearly as indepth as other making of's (aka: almost ALL PE's and SE's...oh and Fantasia's! lol), but I thought it was generally good. I still REALLY wish they put a trailer of some sort on the disk!! its not like it takes up too much space!! But oh well. I guess Disney's just being Disney. :(

I think the movie itself looked poor. Now, I haven't seen the GC transfer (other than the screencaps on this site), and so I can't TRUELY compare it or know what to look for. But it seems like some shots looked pretty good (another words: it had been somewhat restored) and other shots just looked very grainy and old. Also some lines seemed to actually turn white in certain scenes...which looked odd to me.

Anyway, overall, I give it a 7/10....and I must say that this DVD made a record for me as being the one that took the shortest amount of time to go through all the features!

I thought the transfer looked good, but I was watching it on an HD TV with a DVD player that upconverts, so maybe that's why it looked so much better than the GC release.

I also did not really see what was wrong with the transfer. Sure, it was not great like LATT but it was not horrible.

I'll freely admit that I wasn't in the most receptive mood when I watched The Fox and the Hound this weekend, but I was left unimpressed. Nothing really sparked much interest or feeling in me. The climax was the best part, but Tod's decision to take on the bear did not feel like a natural consequence of what had come before. It may grow on me later, but I have a feeling it will always be in my personal bottom five of the WDFA-produced movies.

The DVD was on a par with what I expect from the Gold Collection discs. The art gallery and featurette are fine bonus features, but Disney could have done so much more.

I was watching the movie for the second time to get to sleep and I made it to the transition from childhood to teenage/adulthood or whatever they are by Spring. Anyways, I just realised that the forthcoming sequel is even more pointless than previously thought. Why? Because there is absolutely no time for it to take place. We see both Tod and Copper on the day their owners got them, then the first day they meet and play and become "best friends." Then they show the very next day where Tod comes to play with Copper who has been leashed up. After Tod gets in trouble with Cheif, he is chased and shot at by Amos and it causes Tod to get kept in the house. The very next day, Tod looks out the window and sees that Copper is on his way to learn how to hunt. Tod sneaks out to see his friend of, but Copper never returns until he is grown. Therefore there is absolutely no time for Tod and Copper to become best friends, for Copper to meet a country singing dog band, join it, create conflict because he's no longer around to play with Tod, and then re-establish his friendship with Tod and somehow ditch the band before going hunting, because that is all in a 3 day period. And I watched the trailer for the sequel directly after the film and oh man are Tod and Copper off model. They both look too small and Tod's eyes aren't the same distance apart at all. The color scheme is completely different as well. I think this is the most apalled by an upcoming Disney sequel that I have ever been. I generally don't mind the sequels, but everything about this one ticks me off. It's the most unnecessary, pointless, and now impossible sequel Disney has ever made. I really hope this undersells their expectations by a lot. I want those executives who green lit this film to scratch their bums and think "Oh man... I guess people don't want to see that." lol.

goofystitch I am glad I am not the only one who realized that this upcoming FatH sequel is totally rediculous. You are right, there is no time for this sequel/prequel/midquel to have even taken place. I am not a fan of straight-to-video Disney sequels in the first place, but this release seems to be especially pointless!

i dont find it ridiculous in the sense that it couldnt have happened within the time period of their pup hood. but its just plain rubbish that the dogs r made to look like caricatures straight from all dogs go to heaven. the new animators simply couldnt capture humanesque expression on dogs as good as the nine old men did. the dogs didnt look human, but they act human which is why they're so relatable to us.

The Fox and the Hound was released eight years before All Dogs Go to Heaven.

The Fox and the Hound question

Post by DisneyFreak5282 »

On Saturday, I purchased The Fox and the Hound: Gold Collection at GameStop for $12.99, knowing about the 25th Anniversary Edition. The reason I got it is because I heard that there was not much difference between the two. What I was wondering was, what is different? Picture? Bonus Fearures? What?
