Frozen: Part V
Re: Frozen: Part V
I think the issue with how the media portrays "large figures" is how magazines and other things have ridiculous standards. I remember when X-Men First Class and The Hunger Games were released and I kept seeing comments that Mystique and Katniss were too fat. In what universe is Jennifer Lawrence fat?

I agree. It irks me as well that girls with normal figures are considered fat.estefan wrote:I remember when X-Men First Class and The Hunger Games were released and I kept seeing comments that Mystique and Katniss were too fat. In what universe is Jennifer Lawrence fat?
Re: Frozen: Part V
I know, that is just beyond crazy ! It's all about what / who you are being compared to.
Just putting it out there… I am 25 years old, am 5ft 4, and weigh 114lbs. I don't consider myself fat, but if I stand next to some Hollywood actress my own age and height, I would look enormous. Or at the very least chubby.
It depends on how you look at things.

while we're at it, how about we do the same for the guys. They dont all have to have 6 pack physiques. Lets get a chubby or scrawny dude as a hero whos not just the comic relief. Milo Thatch was a nice change of pace.

Flynn Ryder was supposed to be a lot bigger, until the Disney Prince stereotype won out.

Actually, being overweight doesn't necessarily mean you're unhealthy. So, let's stop masking prejudice and bias against overweight people as concern for other people's health. You're basically saying that there shouldn't be any presence of overweight people in any media whatsoever because their very existence is somehow "promoting obesity" even when the issue of their weight is not dwelt upon. I find that absurd.rodis wrote:I'm always baffled by people who urge the media to promote "large figures", as if they're oblivious to the fact that it's UNHEALTHY to be overweight.
What I find unhealthy is the overwhelmingly negative attitudes towards overweight people I'm witnessing here.

Female bodies in comic books are even more ridiculous, hence internet nerds always squealing "she's not hot enough" whenever an actress is cast in a super hero movie.
I don't know why animation has to reflect reality though. I prefer it doesn't. Hyper realistic animation for humans tends to be creepy more than anything. Let cartoons be cartoons.

I still love those early Flynn designs. In retrospect, I'm glad they weren't wasted on a character as awful as Flynn. Still, I hope they circle around and find themselves in another film. I like the design not just because he's larger/more average than their usual male characters, but because he's so tall.
I know Kristoff does bear resemblance to those designs, possibly why I like that character...
, but I still like the design more, for things Kristoff is missing (big neck/large chest and shoulders).

I can't help noticing that whenever someone in real life is taken to task for saying nasty things about another person's weight, they usually respond with a tearstained apology about how they're really just concerned for that person's health. ....Sotiris wrote: So, let's stop masking prejudice and bias against overweight people as concern for other people's health.

Listening to most often lately:

Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: Frozen: Part V
I think we shouldn't be pushing for either end of the spectrum. The princesses are often shown to be too skinny, I agree, but I think it would be a mistake to go all the way to the opposite. Overweight is just as unhealthy and should be frowned upon the same way super skinny is. I don't think either should be considered "role model" material, as the princesses are. Instead of using terms like plus size to try and get to Disney to represent a wider group of people, it should be about "normal, healthy" body types - which in itself includes a huge variety of shapes and sizes.
But as others have said, at the end of the day I think all this is much more important in mainstream media and/or live action movies. Animated characters are caricatures, so I don't think it matters nearly as much.

Re: Frozen: Part V
If you all think the Princesses are to skinny just look at Big Hero 6 Honey Lemon's silhouette. Looks like she'll give "THIN" a whole new meaning.

It's one of those topics that are just never going to end well, so I'll leave it at that.Sotiris wrote:Actually, being overweight doesn't necessarily mean you're unhealthy. HL's silhouette reminds me of Starfire from Teen Titans(the CN show version.)DisneyEra wrote:If you all think the Princesses are to skinny just look at Big Hero 6 Honey Lemon's silhouette. Looks like she'll give "THIN" a whole new meaning.

Re: Frozen: Part V
I'm thinking maybe Big Hero 6 will have a very stylized design in terms of characters, possibly influenced a lot by Marvel superhero comics and anime, so maybe the proportions on characters is a bit wonky.
It's kinda strange with characters like Honey Lemon and Gogo Tomago though, they're superheroes no? At least they would have a realistic shape and muscle due to them working out so much.
Now that we're talking about the subject, I would like to see a princess/heroine that likes eating. Maybe not showing it all the time, but similar how we see each princess with her "hobbies" (Aurora singing, Ariel collecting, Belle reading...), it'd be nice to see a princess who loves a plate of food in front of her face and eats it. Anna eating chocolate was something in the right direction.
The princesses are never seen eating, and looking at their bodies it's just something very weird and bizarre...But now that I'm thinking, I barely see the male characters eating either...

Re: Frozen: Part V
thinking about it, disney characters in general, be it princess, hero or animal, are hardly ever shown eating. even in house of mouse, a place which would serve food and drink, didnt seem to show much.
out of the humans, i think alice did the most eating, and she didnt have a very successful result. snow white ate a bite of apple that very nearly killed her. bambis mother ate some grass and got shot. lady had spaghetti and meatballs, and im picking she got pregnant that night.
. hell, eating when you are a cartoon just isnt safe!! meeko would be about the only one who came out unharmed, when he took john smiths biscuit, and maybe belle during the be our guest sequence.

Bob Iger saying lots more Frozen related material to come. He quotes Frozen & Tangled's sucess but leaves out Wreck-It Ralph of course.
