Re: Moana
OK, Disney really should start a new university offering PhDs in "Distinguishing between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar".
John Pickle: "Hey guys! I graduated last week. I now officially hold a doctorate certifying me capable of telling the difference between rodents and lamps! Isn't that cool!?"
John's course lasted a full year, in case you guys are interested.

“How Far I’ll Go” will be performed at the Oscars by Auli'i Cravalho and Lin-Manuel Miranda:
Source: https://ohmy.disney.com/news/2017/02/10 ... my-awards/As is customary at the Academy Awards, the Original Song nominees all have a chance to showcase themselves during the awards ceremony with a performance during the broadcast. It was just announced that “How Far I’ll Go” will be performed by the unstoppable duo of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Auli’i Cravalho!

Couldn't he just let Auli'i perform it by herself? Is his need to hog the spotlight all the time so big that he's turning a solo into a duet just so he'll be able to perform at the Oscars?D82 wrote:“How Far I’ll Go” will be performed at the Oscars by Auli'i Cravalho and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Unless he's sitting at the piano I agree there is no reason for him to be there. He does seem kind of an attention seeker.Sotiris wrote:Couldn't he just let Auli'i perform it by herself? Emma and Ryan aren't performing for their shows. Maybe it's because they're focusing on the composers. Or maybe it's b/c Lin is a full-blown celeb now and they asked the both of them to perform. Geeze, the Lin hate here is honestly pathetic.

LMM: Constantly in the media spotlight, gives countless interviews and makes TV appearances all the time, performs with celebrities, strong presence on social media with cutesy, pseudo-inspirational messages that appeal to the masses, turns a solo he didn't sing into a duet so he can perform at the Oscars, etc.disneyprincess11 wrote:Geeze, the Lin hate here is honestly pathetic.

Re: Moana
I mean, it's not like Lin-Manuel Miranda isn't the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning creator and star of an extremely popular Broadway musical, which has developed a dedicated and passionate fanbase since its stage debut. There's no reason whatsoever the Academy producers wouldn't want him on stage. None whatsoever. Guy is obviously an attention hog.
That was sarcasm, by the way. I knew the Academy would find some way to include him on stage, either presenting an award or performing his song. It's also likely he will pull an Alan Menken and just be on stage, playing the piano.

Your opinion is fine, it's just that it seems like you just jump on him in every chance you can get.Sotiris wrote:Someone: He's kind of an attention seeker.

He's the new golden boy of Disney, they're gonna exploit the hell out of him until Lasseter gets bored with his new toy. I wouldn't even be surprised if he's promoted that much by Disney due to political reasons.
Just understand that for the people who have no interest in Hamilton or found Moana's music "ok", it does seem a little too much.

Re: Moana
My opinion is clearly not "fine" considering that when I make even the smallest of criticisms, I get attacked for it. I've only criticized him two times, both of which my arguments were reasonable and mild but you make it sound like I jump on him all the time, which is obviously not the case.disneyprincess11 wrote:Your opinion is fine, it's just that it seems like you just jump on him in every chance you can get.

Re: Moana
Aside from attempting to foist himself on the TLM-LA film, I still kind of see Miranda as a question mark. His personality is still TBD for me. I won't mind if he's just playing the piano, but I don't understand why he would be singing.Sotiris wrote: Couldn't he just let Auli'i perform it by herself? That said, there's a mean side of me that would be almost glad to see Moana's music lose.

Listening to most often lately:

Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

Don't worry about it. I'm not offended. Sometimes it just feels that I can't express myself freely here. I already filter and water-down my opinion, especially when I have something negative to say but people still seem to be put off by it.

Re: Moana
I like him, from the little Ive seen of him on tv. I did find it funny that he became "The Official Spokesperson for Moana" when it came to its promotion on Spanish speaking tv stations like Telemundo and Univision(which my mom watches) doing special interviews and promos in his native language. I guess it makes sense though as he was a good way to market the film to Hispanic/Latin Americans in the US.
Re: Moana
I think the producers of the show simply asked Lin-Manuel to perform the song alongside Auli'i, because they want well-known artists for the musical numbers and she's not famous enough for them. They have done that several times in the past. Not just adding a singer, but replacing the original performer by someone more famous. Like in 2005, when Antonio Banderas performed the nominated song "Al otro lado del río" from The Motorcycle Diaries instead of Uruguayan singer and songwriter Jorge Drexler. There was some controversy as the original singer publicly expressed his disapproval. But he got his "revenge". When he won the Oscar, instead of giving a speech, he took that opportunity to sing part of his song. And last year, for example, two nominated songs weren't performed because they weren't by well-known artists. If I remember it correctly, the Academy cited time issues as the excuse for their omission.

Re: Moana
It's not just Lin Manuel Miranda, they are also promoting Justin Timberlake & John Legend as well. The Oscars are clearly going for star-power as all of them will preform. Even Sting "The Emperor's New Groove" is preforming at the Oscars too!
