Chances are I may end up picking this up, despite not really being an upgrade. My DVD of the older Special Edition, which BTW I paid way more than $20 for, has a crack in it, and I'd prefer to not play it in my player anymore for fear some freak thing will happen that most DVDs can withstand but this one with its crack cannot. The crack doesn't affect playback, but yes.

I finally saved up 3100 points so I could get The Fox and the Hound WDCC set of Tod and Copper. I got it in the mail today, they have FAST shipping!! I love my Tod and Copper!! My next goal is to get 3000 points for the Dumbo WDCC.PixarFan2006 wrote:Since I never got around to buying the older Special Editon, I bought the new DVD today. I was pretty happy to get 100 bonus points after entering in the code. I still plan on saving my points for a sculpture (And they still do not have anything I want that I can currently afford).

About it being $19.99 at Best Buy: Last week, both Mary Poppins and The Secret of the Magic Gourd were $19.99 (during their first week) at Best Buy. I guess since Circuit City isn't selling new releases anymore, Best Buy can charge a higher price. I don't know about Gourd, but MP was $17.99 at Target last week.

That's exactly what I'm saving up for right now. Quick question: How big are they? They seem like they would be on the smaller side, but I'm hoping they are around the six inch tall mark.tlc38tlc38 wrote: I finally saved up 3100 points so I could get The Fox and the Hound WDCC set of Tod and Copper. I really hope that this doesn't become a growing trend with Best Buy now that Circuit City is going out of business. The way I see it, it was the beginning of the end when Circuit City started pricing their standard DVDs at $21.99.blackcauldron85 wrote:About it being $19.99 at Best Buy: Last week, both Mary Poppins and The Secret of the Magic Gourd were $19.99 (during their first week) at Best Buy. Anyway, back to the DVD, I may wait a few weeks to go to FYE. 80% of the time, they have a few copies of their new releases used and they are always in brand new condition for around $14.99. I've always wondered how they get used copies of new releases so fast? I can't imagine anyone buying a new release DVD and then trading it in within a week.

This was odd. I went into Walmart today and Oliver was selling for $23, not the first day $19.99 they usually sell movies for. What gives? Something to do with the recession? Walmart rolling-forward prices rather than rolling-back?
But, like I said, I may not pick this one up for a while as the Special Edition one is fine.

Different Wal Mart stores have different deals. When I lived in Orlando, the Wal Mart close to me never sold new release DVDs for less than $19.99, but the one 15 minutes away would have $15.99 first week deals.
I don't find it odd at all that stores aren't doing cheap deals on this film. Its a re-release that wasn't heavily advertised and the main marketing strategy is people buying Space Buddies who are intrigued by the free plushes if they add Oliver & Co. to their collection as well. Beyond this limited offer, the film sort of sells itself as a Disney animated film that people will remember fondly while browsing in the store.

Maybe they're different pricings at Wal-mart Superstores versus regular Walmarts. I probably should've taken that into consideration but I finally managed to buy it at Costco (my mom is luckily a member) so the price with tax all together was $20.goofystitch wrote:Different Wal Mart stores have different deals. I don't think they're gonna get any cheaper than that.

Picked this one up yesterday, and I've got a simple question: Since when did Disney cheapen out on their DVDs. Cause, this is the first new release standard def DVD I've bought from Disney in a long time (all my recent Disney purchases have been either Blu-ray or catalog titles), and I was quite surprised when I opened my copy to find no disc artwork, no insert and all the stuff on the actual disc looked horrible- the transfer and the bonus material all looked like they could have been ported off the laserdisc.
I guess with all these so called "special editions" coming and done in recent years are gonna be the last time these titles are released on DVD, or at least DVD exclusive, so the next time when the restored blu-rays come along next time, we're gonna be milked to buy those ones too.

I actually did that to all the low greated so called Special Editions, and even to the sequels to lol.

I think I'll use my $5 reward certificate at Best Buy before it expires at the end of this month, to buy O&C. I don't own it yet on DVD, anyway.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Bought this yesterday. The features and disc art are disappointing, but maybe Disney being cheap is a good thing. One thing I really loved about Disney films when I was growing up was the grainy image and the old sound. For some reason, it made the movie feel darker because it felt like it came from an old time...a dark time. The only movie that pops into mind is Snow White, but O&C's scene on the pier where Ginny is kidnapped gave me the same chills I got when I watched Snow White as a child because of the not perfected picture.
I have so say, this is one of my more favorite Disney movies. And all you guys are going to get my head for this: the surface of the slipcover where there are no characters feels really good! It's not glossed up or anything.
