After seeing that picture, I can't help but wondering more what the story will be like. Rapunzel is the movie I'm looking forward to most, but the Frog and the Princess really is making me interested in the story. I'm really excited for it, but I'm a little bit scared that with all the concept art criticisms before, they might have watered down the plot and Tiana's character so they could please everyone. I just hope though the film winds up being terrific, and this picture only makes me excited even more.

So is she called Tiana or Maddy ?
BTW I'm so glad they're making a Black princess, personally I feel really upset because of all those black little girls who play dress up and feel awkward being dressed as Snow White or Cinderella, Asian girls have got Mulan, my little cousins all like to dress up as Jasmine because she's Arabian, and Caucasians, well they've got all the other Disney Princesses, so I'm really glad Tiana or Mady is Black.

Jack Skellington-It's nice that there's a black Princess, but making a movie just to add a black Princess? and sell more Princess merchandise? if let's say,Rapunzel was black that was good (Because they whould make a different Princess, not a whole movie just to add a black girl to the line).
Her name was changed from long ago.
Wait, how she"ll be a Princess? (Or she won't be a real Princess? like Giselle and Mulan?).
Edit:Oh,wait, she"ll merry a Prince, like Cinderella and Belle, doesn't that make her (and also Cinderella and Belle) a queen? not a Princess? because if a prince merry someone he's king,so she's actually a queen, but I guess she's a Princess anyway

I know this may come as a shock, but I'm pretty sure Disney's animation studio doesn't revolve around whether or not some little girl walking through wal-mart doesn't pick up a Disney Princess lamp because they are all white and none of them are black.
The fact that Tiana is black isn't just to add variety to the princess line, if that were the problem then the franchise wouldn't have ever become as popular as it is now. Yes, I'm sure it played a small part of the decision making but can't be the only reason. Stylistically and from what we know about the story, it all seems to make sense.
I'm sorry if that came off as a little rude, i'm just starting to get a little annoyed about how the toys and other silly products seem to be getting more attention and praise than the actual works from which they are modeled from.

When I first saw it, I assumed it was to be a restaurant at the various Disney parks. I never thought it came from the movie as such. In fact, even now that that possibility has been raised, I don't. The art style is totally different from everything else we've seen. (Yes, it could be pre-production artwork - but why show that now?)
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I concur. There's no way in my mind there could be a location called "Tiana's Place" in the movie. Why would there be? I also assumed it would be a theme park attraction.

I agree completely. While I'm sure the idea of there finally being a black Princess was music to many people's ears, I seriously doubt the entire movie revolves around her skin color. It takes place in New Orleans, so why would it be such a weird thing if they made Tiana African American because many people are African American in New Orleans? The fact that Tiana is black isn't just to add variety to the princess line, if that were the problem then the franchise wouldn't have ever become as popular as it is now. They whould have never made this film if the Princess line wasn't sucessful, they just want to add a black Princess to the line, that's all, otherwise they whould have never thought of making 2D films or this film anyway.Disney's Divinity wrote:I agree completely. Um, they probably would have made this film regardless of the success of the line. Will it add more revenue? No doubt, but any film with a princess would do that. The only thing Disney would not have made if the merchandising juggernaut known as the Disney Princesses had flopped are those god-awful "Enchanted Tales" DVDs. And I sincerely doubt that the whole marketing was the reason behind continuing 2-D animation.

Um, that theory is completely flawed by the fact that Rapunzel isn't 2D. If you think that Disney wont include Rapunzel in the Disney Princess line, then you are mad.Ariel'sprince wrote: They whould have never made this film if the Princess line wasn't sucessful, they just want to add a black Princess to the line, that's all, otherwise they whould have never thought of making 2D films or this film anyway.
The choice for 2D was not in any way determined by the princess line. It was by the simple fact that there is a recent demand for it. If they would've had the time and money then Bolt would have been made 2D, Lassater had a horrible time trying to decide to remake it that way or not. Turns out the production was too far into production to turn it around.
I'm pretty sure that the Disney's motion picture animation department could care less about what some cheap franchise "needs" as long as they are able to create a wonderful piece of art. Even the creators of the sequels and so forth try to the best with what they have, because that's what Disney does. The work ethic and heart is behind it, so It's deameaning to reduce their hard work by implying that it's determined by whether or not a few dolls sell well.

Well, Mad isn't the good word for it I think...singerguy04 wrote:Um, that theory is completely flawed by the fact that Rapunzel isn't 2D. I think they will include a (2d) version of Rapunzel to the serie. (I mean in pictures where all the princesses stand next to each other)
