I've decided to chime into this thread, though I don't for the life of me understand why anyone would be interested in reading my list of DVDs. Are you interested? I doubt it. Nevertheless, I am uncannily attracted at typing out the list, which I'm in fact doing ... MUHAHAHAHA!

I wonder if my unconventional first paragraph might actually entice a user into reading my list. I know I read other people's lists ... or rather, I skim through them (I can't afford to read each title individually).

I'll bite. If only so I have a minimal estimate of how many silver discs currently reside in Malta.

*reads list. Goes to get a glass of lemonade. Lemonade at 8 pm? Preposterous! Drinks it anyway, goes back and finishes reading list.*

You do realize, of course, that your lack of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs does not make you a true Disney Animated Classic fan, right? :P

But then again, the fact that you have Death Becomes Her makes up for it.

My lists can be found on the "www" link button below the siggy. Has the "Holy 44" () and everything.

Hmm ... why? (I seem to have some sort of suspicion as to why you said that but I'd like to know what you had in mind anyway).

By the way, the only DVD I feel kind of ashamed of owning is Independence Day. I know it was critically panned. I know it's intoxicatingly bombastic in its American patriotism (really!) but ... I like it! Perhaps that's because I'm particularly fond of sci-fi* (and psychological thrillers too ... but that's another story).

*Interestingly, this is reflected in how much I like my Disney animated films too. Treasure Planet is my personal favourite film from Disney this decade, and I'm very fond of Atlantis too.

Well, I bought 6 Disney titles in the past two days, and I have picked up several here and there since last time I posted, so let's see:

(I'm not counting Miramax, Dimension, Hollywood Pictures, or most of the Touchstone/Buena Vista titles.) This includes titles like the Ernest movies, etc.

11 CG films (all of Pixar and Disney's CG works except for Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons, I think)
3 TV shows (Muppet Show 1 and 2, Schoolhouse Rock)
11 Studio Ghibli DVDs
33 Animated Classics (a couple of double-dips)
32 Live-Action films (I counted Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
3 "other Disney animation"
19 Treasures & True-Life Adventures

Grand total: 112

I am getting ready to join the DMC, and get 5-6 more...

I for one know (through some really advanced FBI-like spy stuff or whatever that is) that you've never attempted using your copy of the film as a lethal weapon, and you'd better not, because Caselotti's ultrasonic vocal explosions will simply reflect off the blanket of Carbon Dioxide in the stratosphere and make a crater where you were when you, er ... dispatched them. Then we get Global Cracking, you Scapsta (and the formation of new organisations like "EardrumPeace" and "The United Stirrup Bones"). :P

Well, uh ... I am kinda more interested in the animation, but I'll admit I perhaps should have something in there. Boatniks would probably be the last film to join the list seeing as it has a terrible UD review. I'd like to give 20,000 Leagues a rent first (no, I've never seen it  ), and Albert, I'm er ... (how shall I put this politely?) not exactly dying to see The Rocketeer, but I might give it rent one day (provided my local DVD rentals store has it in stock).

Damn ... my last few paragraphs were really boring. No humour at all. tut tut :(

Even the good guys can miss a few now and then. Remember Ebert also dissed Newsies.

Plus, in the long run, it doesn't matter what a critic thinks of a movie, but what you think of a movie. I'm not gonna love Citizen Kane just because it's a critical darling. And I'm still gonna embrace the enigma that is Chicken Little even though no one else did.

Yeah. You're right. Actually it could make a good anthem for Puerto Rico:

I'm Buyin' - by reyquila

A shiny DVD
labelled Diz-eee-ny
Makes cash jump from your pocket
Tralalalalalala

Into Disney's bank account -
Now isn't that nice?

Critical Analysis of above poem:

There is no doubt that this is a contemporary piece, as evidenced by its total lack of sophisticated rhyme and metrical irregularity. It is formed of two stanzas, both relatively concise. The form corresponds to the poem's not very conventional subject matter. The diction is comprised of standard English, excepting a couple of modified/nonsense words like "Diz-eee-ny" or "Tralalalalalala" Note the forced wrenched accent in "Diz-eee-ny" which quite clearly displays a lack of metrical skill on the poet's part.

The poem is not too rich in imagery, but then that can be attributed to its short length. Nevertheless, it lacks ambition in only presenting vibrating cash as the main image - not to mention the utter lack of figures of speech ...

The rhyme is as follows: aabc bd. "DVD" and "Diz-eee-ny" are the only examples of true rhyme. However, one can spot an example of approximate rhyme, where the vowels are ignored and only the consonants are acknowledged, as in "pocket" to "account".

The tone of the poem is cool and jazzy. In many ways it's a farce - a mocking composition eyeing today's consumerist society with contempt. Then again it might just be a brainless attempt by someone to write something worthwhile under a nom de plume they've only just revealed they have used.

Mother nature is speaking to me.

Er ... she says you once fried an ant with a magnifying glass. Tsk tsk Escapay ... we'll be getting "ArthropodPeace" if you go on at this rate (and any other "...Peace" you can think of just for the heck of it! :P )

I know exactly what you mean. Believe me.

A few days ago I watched Freddy Got Fingered on Youtube (a first for me, despite the wrong aspect ratio and highly pixelated picture). I've been reading that it's so bad (on the internet) for so long, that I just had to see it to find out how bad it really is!

One day I'd like to see Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space. :D

On a side note, I hope my local DVD rentals store has it available. It's strange ... the store has a large DVD library, but the proprieter gets a load of fluff DVDs - telemovies, bad telemovies, other fluff I can't remember at the moment. And then when I go ask for 'The Handmaid's Tale', he doesn't have it.

Or another anthem in Puerto Rico could be:

I am a Disney DVD.

I see reyquila enter the store.

I hide.

Yet he finds me.

On the ground, below the stack of new DVDs.

He carefully picks me up, making sure not to dent nor scratch my coat..er..slipcover.

He then places me firmly into a cart. I begin to suffocate as two hundred and thirty four other DVDs pile ontop of me, scratching me ever-so-slightly.

Reyquila sees the hole that appears in me.

He screams.

The lights go out.

Lightning appars against the windowpane, shattering it.

All love is lost as Reyquila charges the DVD section.

Veering towards the cashier, he comes to a halt.

He quickly exchanges the DVDs.

My plan works.

I have again escaped the wrath of Reyquila.

All my siblings have already entered the house ontop of the hill in which he resides.

Someday he will get me; but I must be prepared.

This is my story.

For I am a Disney DVD.

Yup, that's what I do when I'm bored. :P
