"American Idol 2007" Discussion Thread

Goofystitch, just to let you know, William Hung was here in Wichita a couple of weeks ago, and he sang the National Anthem. He did it quite well, actually, and then threw out the first pitch for opening day of Double A Baseball here in Kansas.

He was here around Christmas time to flip the switch on the State Christmas Tree, and he was in Kansas City last year for a Royals baseball game.

As far as Sanjaya goes, I doubt very seriously if there will be anymore sightings of him other than the 'summer tour'. If he gets an album deal, it will only because of someone wanting to cash in on a 'water cooler' discussion star.

Please don't compare Sanjaya to those talented young people in "High School Musical" or "Hannah Montana". At least they have talent, and carry a tune, and have a personality that isn't based on hair.

I wasn't comparing Sanjaya to "High School Musical" or "Hannah Montana." I was just using those as examples of how Tween entertainment is mega popular. Sanjaya's main fan base is amongst pre-teens and that is a huge industry at the moment.

As for Miley Cyrus being vocally talented, that's debatable. I think it sounds like she is moving a bowel when she is singing, but that's just me.

First of all, I'm glad Sanjaya was finally voted off.

To speak up in his defense, though - he CAN carry a tune. He sings in key. He is not tone deaf.

He just wasn't as good as the other singers.

Speaking about Sanjaya Malakar - I am afraid that you are way off on that statement. Randy, Paula, and Simon all commented at various times how off key, or behind the music he was, or how pitchy he was, I would not call that the makings of a good singer. What kept him around was a very good fan base, and they realized that his time had finally come.

How many watched or taped "Regis and Kelly" this morning (Monday). Sanjaya and his sister were on the show. Sanjaya sang "Besame Mucho" in Spanish and English. The interview with him was really good. He was asked how "Amercian Idol" has changed him and he said that he was no longer just Sanjaya from Seattle. He also said that he is looking forward to the "American Idol 2007" summer tour.

I thought it was pretty dumb that they had this older woman in the audience with phony tears while he was singing, and then they said that they had the girl who cried all through his performance on American Idol one week in the audience and they showed this woman with a "Sanjaya" tee shirt on just bawling. I don't think he appreciated it much. It was Kelly Rippa's lame attempt at humor I think.

Don't forget the two part American Idol this week. Tuesday night is the usual one-hour show with the competitors singing, and then Wednesday is the two-hour "American Idol Gives Back" special and they will also reveal who will be sent home packing. Exciting week for everyone involved. Should be a really good show.

Now that is a perfect reason to DVR the show, so I can fast forward through her crap. I can't stand that woman, and why her? There are a lot of other capable hosts they could choose I am sure. The two-hour special looks like it might be pretty good, and then it could be pretty boring. I will probably just skim over it and get to the vote off part and see who goes home - hopefully Chris Richardson or Phil Stacey. But, they have never sent home two people of the same sex since the Second season of the show, so it wll be interesting to see if they buck the trend, and really send another guy home this week.

I hope that the song choices for this whole "Idol Gives Back" thing are good, and not too many overly cheesey songs. I think it'll be cool to see all the celebs that are going to sing on results night, though!

JORDIN SPARKS IS AN AMERICAN IDOL

What a way to close a show!! "You'll Never Walk Alone" has never sounded better and more meaningful than Jordin Sparks' performance tonight on 'Idol'. Even Simon Cowell loved her performance. It was the show-stopper of the night.

Phil Stacey and Blake Lewis continued with their strong performances, Blake sang John Lennon's "Imagine", and Phil did Garth Brooks' "Change". Both were exceptional performances.

The weakest performance of the night was Chris Richardson, and running a close second, in my opinion was LaKisha Jones.

Melinda Doolittle was far and away the star of the night with her song. I was in tears listening to her performance. I really strongly think that our final four may be Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks, Melinda Doolittle and LaKisha Jones.

Tomorrow's two-hour show besides including the results of the voting will be highlighted by a ton of performances and salutes by many, many stars include Bono, Celine Dion, and Kelly Clarkson. Should be a really good show, but I will probably fast-forward through any of the weaker performances, and especially any monologue done by Ellen Degenerate.

I agree Jordin is great. I really hope Melinda and Jordin are the final two. I still think Blake will end up in the top three. I didn't like Blake tonight. His performances are hit and miss with me. Phil needs to stick with country. I think he has done good the past two weeks, but he could go home at anytime.

Is LaKisha trying to get sent home? The reason I say this is she keeps doing songs by past Idols. This is almost like a death sentence because the judges will always prefer the original version from the past Idol.

Chris is starting to get old... He really needs to go this week. I think the bottom two will be Chris and LaKisha. If LaKisha is safe she needs to return to being LaKisha. Pick some better songs, and stop doing songs by past Idols. Its only going to hurt her in my opinion.

A pretty good night overall. The "Idol Gives Back" campaign is a fantastic idea and a proud moment for television.

Jordin Sparks again had the best performance of the night. Chris was pretty good as well (though "Change the World" is the only lyric in that song that really fits with the night's theme). LaKisha gave a good performance, but Fantasia is like Jewel, Alanis, etc., in that her voice is so unique that it's rarely a good idea to cover her.

Melinda was pretty good by the end, but she started out overly breathy and I wasn't crazy about the song choice. Blake gave a solid vocal, but I really hate "Imagine" and was very disappointed that he chose it. Phil's performance was alright, but typically forgettable.

My votes tonight went to the following, in order of quantity:

Chris
Jordin
Melinda

Still hoping that Phil is the next to go. (Anyone else see that he's the new votefortheworst.com pick? ) Looking forward to tomorrow's results special!

I have to agree with others on here about Lakisha's performance last night. It's just plain stupid on her part to pick a song that's already been sung by an Idol winner, not once but twice! It's like Lakisha wants to go home. I predict she'll be leaving tonight (even though I'm actually hoping it's Phil). Also wouldn't mind if Chris was sent packing too. The guy's beginning to annoy me.

I agree that Jordin was deffinatley the best of the night. I had never heard that song before, but it was incredible. I thought Melinda was second best. I had never heard that song either, but I thought she was just incredible (as always). I would rank the idols performances from best to worst as:

Phil

I thought Chris was pretty bad last night. Well, maybe bad isn't the right word, but his voice didn't really fit "Change The World" and I hated how he was running with his voice all over it. He does that with every song and it usually works, but that just wasn't the right song choice for him.

I love the song "Imagine" and it's the kind of song that should only be sung one way. Blake sang it that way, but again, I didn't feel like it fit his voice. I think Blake should have sang something more like "Change The World."

I thought Phil did really well. He should deffinatley stick to Country, but Simon was right. He needed to sing it country instead of merely singing a country song. I hope he sticks around and fixes that problem next week.

The only person I called for last night was Melinda. I would have voted for Jordin too, but I didn't watch the show until 11 and voting ended at midnight, so I could only squeeze a few votes in and I gave them to my favorite idol overall.

That was a good show tonight. I'm so glad that Blake is safe, even if I think not getting rid of anyone tonight was kind of a cop out.

But, man, Kelly Clarkson was SO good. I just loved that song she sang! What is it?

Tonights show actually made me sad and depressed while it was on. It was a good show though.

The whole not voting someone off was a little odd, but I see the point. It would be bad to tell someone to leave on a show like that.

I had to DVR the show last night because of work, but I just got through watching it and I am still in tears (mostly tears of joy). What a fantastic two hours that was. And for someone who dislikes Ellen DeGeneras as much as I do, I will commend her for a superb job as co-host of the show.

Kelly Clarkson singing "Up To The Mountain" with guitar icon Jeff Beck was a real show-stopper, but my favorite was the fantastic editing job they did to get Ceiline Dion to sing a duet with Elvis Presley on "If I Can Dream". The magic of television brought together two great singers for a fabulous song that meant so much then, and means even more today.

The Ben Stiller thing got a little old, and I am glad that they didn't pursue it any more than they did. Jack Black was hilarious, and I thought that the whole show was worth the $50 donation my wife called in last night while watching. I wish that I could afford more, but I believe that it is the thought that counts.

I was miles ahead on the not sending anyone home thing, I figured they would do something like that, but to have two go home next week, that will really be tough to call.

Here's to "Idol Gives Back" - they certainly did, and I think that the show was great from beginning to end, and I have saved it all to DVD+R.

I loved the show last night. It deffinatley touched me. I gave what I could afford. I loved Kelly Clarkson's performance and (What's his name?) singing with the African Boys Choir. I wasn't a fan of Il Divo, mainly because I hate throaty singers AND "West Side Story" and Annie Lennox sang the most boring version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" I've ever heard. I liked the Idol music video, but the whole celebrity music video was bad. I bought the Carrie Underwood cover of "I'll Stand By You." I was glad they didn't eliminate anybody because the atmosphere wasn't right for it. I hope that Ryan didn't call off the Idols in order of ammount of votes because Jordin doesn't deserve to be last.

I really enjoyed last night's show as well and am so pleased with the "Idol Gives Back" effort. Some of the performances were fast forwardable, but Kelly Clarkson was great and the Celine + Elvis surprise duet was an amazing, unforgettable moment that will go down in TV history. Lots of great humor... the "Simpsons" clip and Jack Black were especially funny. The humanitarian clips and the judges' comments were all very moving.
