I have the LAN Adapter attached to the modem.DarthPrime wrote:Having a tough time finding info on that modem...
From what I can see the modem doesn't have wireless. If thats true you'll need the LAN adapter to use the Wii with the modem, or a wireless router.
Wii is here!

You shouldn't need channel 1 or 11 then, thats wireless. Sort of odd it gave a error message for wireless.Mr. Toad wrote:I have the LAN Adapter attached to the modem.DarthPrime wrote:Having a tough time finding info on that modem...

Make sure your settings on the Wii match what you have on your computer when you connect using the modem. Also that you have the Wii connection set as wired.
Also try turning the modem and the Wii off (Wii has a red light. Hold down the power button until its red. That disables WiiConnect 24, and sets the Wii to standby/off.). Restart the modem, and once its connected try connecting with the Wii again. Sometimes a reboot of the modem works.
I rented a few games today from my local Blockbuster to check them out. The games for Wii are pretty expensive so I want to see how I like the game before I pay $50 dollars and commit to a purchase. I rented Super Paper Mario and played it for about 3 hours straight. This game is really awesome and I think I will most likely end up buying it. You really can't go wrong with Mario games, they are always really great. However, there is a LOT of reading in this game, which gets kind of annoying at parts, but over all I really like the game. I have never played a Paper Mario game before, infact, I have never even heard of a Paper Mario game before this one came out. Then again, up until now I never owned anything past a Super Nintendo. I might have to purchase the previous Paper Mario game (for N64) with my Wii points. Are the other ones any good? The other game I rented is Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Normally, this doesn't look like a game that would appeal to me, it seems as though it would be hard. However, a friend of mine played it and recommended it saying it was a lot of fun and it wasn't complicated at all. Anyone here played that one yet? I haven't tryed it yet, but I will soon.
So basically I'm pretty much obsessed with my Wii, I guess that's what I'm saying...

Paper Mario, and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door are different from Super Paper Mario. They are more like a RPG, with "Final Fantasy" style battles. Both are great games though... In my opinion they are harder than Super Paper Mario. Paper Mario was on N64, but can be downloaded on the Wii Shop now. Thousand Year Door was on Gamecube. I've seen it for around $20 new, probably cheaper if you found it used. I recommend checking them out. I'm probably in the minority on this, but I enjoyed Super Paper Mario better than the other two.Simba3 wrote:I rented a few games today from my local Blockbuster to check them out. Haven't played Marvel Ultimate Alliance yet. One of my friends has and said he didn't like the Wii version as much as the other consoles. It was mainly issues with the controls on the Wii version.
Can you help me with Super Paper Mario? I am in level 2-3 (I believe) the one where I am supposed to collect rubies. I seem to be stuck. I can't believe I would have to spin in that hampster wheel long enough to earn 1,000,000 rubies, do I? I already got the 4 digit code to the secret room with the hampster wheels and I paid that weird guy 10,000 rubies and he gave me the number 41262816 - is that number significant. I can't seem to get any further in the game than that. Can you help me? Can I use that number somehow? How do I get past those pink electric things to where there are lots of rubies?
Help please, I'm stuck.

You get past the Pink Electric things by using Slim I think and you enter the number into the keypad beside the door (which is after the electric things)Simba3 wrote:Can you help me with Super Paper Mario? By the way, they have released an update for the Wii. It's now version 3.0. It can be downloaded by going into the Wii Settings Menu, and scrolling to System Update.
Here is the information about what the update does:
Channels:
-Digital Clock added to the Wii Menu right under the channel bar
-Forecast Channel now displays the current condition (cloudy, raining, etc.) directly in the Wii Menu in the Forecast Channel box
-News Channel can now show 2 scrolling headlines at a time in the Wii Menu, 3 when you click on the button
-Message Board now has the “Today’s Accomplishments” message as a white message which allows it to stand out from other messages
-Address Book entries can now be shifted around using A+B but only to empty spaces. Not too convenient.
-Calendar in Message Board no longer shows “Today’s Accomplishment” only days as having messages
-Scrolling messages in the Message Board now uses a different sound
Wii Shop Channel Overhauled (Visual aesthetic is the same, changes made to organization and browsing methods mostly)
-New Welcome screen detailing 4 Recommended Titles and the points they cost (gone is the title screen bar that had linkable games). The title bar can be clicked on to bring up a list of 20 recommended games.
-Titles You’ve Downloaded was moved to the main shop menu
-New ways to browse
-Popular Titles (2 pages of 10 and includes launch games so not only based on recent info)
-Newest Additions remains the same
-Search for a title which can use partial names
-Search by Category
-System shows the different systems and how many titles have been released under each
-Publisher showing different publishers and amount of titles released
-Genre (different genres listed and amount of titles under each)
Settings
-Warning added pre-system update detailing that technically modified consoles may cease to function upon being updated. Also the only way to not accept an update is to power down the console by holding the button for 4 seconds (the user can’t back out of hitting I Accept w/o powering down)

Thanks a bunch MM1, I try not to use those things too often, but I think I really need it this time. Thanks again.MadonnasManOne wrote:Here, Simba3. The 3.0 update took awhile to download. It took longer than the first update I did when I got the Wii a few months ago.
Anyway the Wii Shop is organized better, and I like the addition of the clock on the Wii Menu. Glad to see accomplishments and messages with separate colors as well.
The scrolling text in the news channel, and the forecast update were ok I guess if you leave WiiConnect24 on all the time.
Maybe its just me, but entering and exiting channels seems a little faster with this update.

It seemed to update pretty quickly, for me. Overall, I'm liking the things that they've done with this update.DarthPrime wrote:The 3.0 update took awhile to download. It took longer than the first update I did when I got the Wii a few months ago.

It's not just you. On top of increasing the speed at which you can enter and exit channels, they have also increased the speed of accessing data from the disc you are playing. I think it's pretty cool that this can be done via a firmware update!

I haven't tryed it yet today, but I keep reading rumors that after firmware update 3.0 the fan will turn on sometimes while WiiConnect24 is on and the system is in standby.
If this is true then its great news. While WiiConnect24 wasn't killing consoles it was exposing a flaw in some systems (bad heatsink... heat built up, and then messed up the GPU). Has anyone that uses WiiConnect24 noticed the system running cooler in standby, or the fan running?

Downloaded the Prime 3 Preview and it looks pretty good. I'm in the minority for sure, but I didn't like Prime 1 and 2. It wasn't the story or anything, it was the controls. I hope these issues are fixed in Prime 3 using the Wiimote.
On the other hand my Wii is starting to worry me. When I first got my Wii I had a few disc read errors that went away, so I never thought anything about it.
Recently I played some Wii Sports, and Paper Mario. Out of the 4 times I put in a disc, 2 of the 4 gave me a read error. Whats odd is if I take the game out and put it right back in it works great. It never messes up when I'm playing a game either.
This is also the first time I have played anything since the 3.0 update. I'm wondering if my Wii is picking up some interference where it is located. Its not in my bedroom with the rest of my stuff, because no room to move around on games that require you to (Wii Sports, etc...). So I have it in the living room. The area has plenty of room for air circulation, but there is a fireplace next to the TV, and a built in bookshelf over the TV set. I have noticed before that the TV picked up some type of interference that caused it to display a light shade of green on one side (old CRT set). It went away so I never thought anything about it. I guess if something did that it could also effect the Wii.
I'm going to try moving it into another room and see if it was just where it was located. 3 months old and I'm having problems. This is also the first time I have ever had a Nintendo system with problems. I'm going to hate it if I have to send it in for repair. I don't want a refurb system. At least I haven't downloaded any VC games yet, so I don't have to worry about that.
With a 15 month warranty I really shouldn't worry, but stuff like this bugs me. Hopefully my Wii issues are worked out and I don't have to get the system replaced. To bad I can't just take it back and exchange it where I bought it.
Has anyone sent a Wii in for repair? I know they provide you a shipping label, but you have to pack it up yourself. What are some good methods if I have to ship mine in so it doesn't get destroyed even more in the mail due to poor packaging?

Eh... still having disc read issues.
Like I said I noticed some stuff with my TV a few weeks ago, so I thought maybe it was interference causing the read issues. Well tonight I spent about an hour just testing stuff out. I moved the Wii around to different locations on the TV stand, left it vertical and then put it horizontal. No matter what I did about 20% of the time I would get a disc error.
I moved the Wii out of the TV stand and put it about 4 foot in front of the TV (as far as the cords could reach). Well it still did it a few times, but not as bad as when it was on the TV stand.
Maybe its interference, but I'm not sure... When I have the error the Wii makes a read noise like it does when you first load a game. It pauses and continues making that noise. Eventually the screen will go black letting you know to eject the disc, etc... If the game loads up you can play it and never have a problem. So far the only issues I'm having is with loading up the disc.
I've got another TV to try in my bedroom. I'm going to see if its really interference, or if I have a failing disc drive. I have to say though that since the NES days in the mid to late 80s I have never had a problem with a Nintendo system. I guess there is a first time for everything.
I really don't want a refurb system, but if this continues it looks like I will be getting one soon. I may just buy a SD card and move my saves over, and then do the advanced system return instead of sending mine in. Other than the Internet, Everybody Votes, and Prime 3 preview I haven't gotten anything else from the Wii Shop.

The green block on your television would have been interference from a magnet - most electrical apparatus have mangnets inside them. Did you have speakers near your TV? Or a power supply for a console?
As for Disc read errors on the Wii, I wouldn't think this is from interference - not electrical or magnetic anyway, because unlike tape, DVDs don't use magnetic media. Make sure you do not move the console at all while the drive is in use. This includes making sure the Wii is on a firm surface and cannot rock from side to side, even if only by half a milimeter or so. If it is possible to rock the Wii, such movement can be triggered by the movement of the drive when accessing the disc.
Initially my 360 was capable of a little rocking (and I mean a little - it really was a small amount) and it scratched some of my discs as a result. Since I sorted out its footing, this has not happened again.
So, if you are happy with the placement of your Wii and its footing, I would say you have a faulty drive. I'm sorry to hear this, but you know, stuff like this happens. See if the drive is scratching your discs (look for deep circular rings on the disc's surface). If it's not then at least you only need to get a new Wii. If you do, you may need to see if you can get your games replaced as well.

Games look fine other than a small scratch on my Wii Sports Disc (the cardboard sleeve it came in scratched it, I later put it in a case). There are no speakers or anything near the TV. Its a older CRT with a DVD player and a Wii hooked up to it.2099net wrote:The green block on your television would have been interference from a magnet - most electrical apparatus have mangnets inside them. The Wii is stable so it looks like I got a faulty drive. Maybe I'm overreacting but the thought of a refurb for such a new system makes me sick.

Thats not my Wii, but a similar problem to what I am having.
