I don't think that's the case at all. In fact Brother Bear and Treasure Planet did far better in Europe than in the States.
The real reason that this will have happened is because there is just too much out in cinemas at the moment aimed at children.
Corpse bride was released here on October 13th, a month after the US.
Wallace and Gromit was released on October 14th.
Then Sky High not released here in summer was released on October 21st.
Also Nanny McPhee was released on October 21st (big hot here starring Colin Firth, Emma Thompson and Angela Lansbury, not released in US until January)
Then Harry Potter was released on November 18th.
Then we have Narnia released on December 8th and King Kong on December 15th.
Simply a case of nowhere for it to go.
Whereas in February the theatres will be clearer and it is being released the friday before the schools are closed for a week, so it's first week of opening will be against no other competition and every kid in the country will be off school.
Although yes back to your point, Yes it is interesting that CL has only been released in a few countries other than the US and outside the States the UK brings in more film revenue than any other country.
