Well, it takes a lot of work to get so much wrong, I guess.
I mean, you have to actually try to do this bad, considering there's literally a blueprint for you to follow in general terms...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Tomorrow, guys! The trailer's finally, probably, gonna come out tomorrow during the Super Bowl!!!!

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
The trailer will be different than the leaked one from a few weeks ago. I don't know if that's true or not. I guess we shall see tomorrow.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
It seems that Halle told fans there isn't a trailer tomorrow:

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
That's disappointing, but I do understand though. When they released a first look at Aladdin, the Genie's CGI was not complete, and they received a lot of backlash for it. I guess they want to avoid a similar situation with The Little Mermaid.

The movie is going to be released in 3 months. We don't have an entertaiment weekly cover, we don't have a trailer, we don't have anything!? What are they doing? It seems that they are not happy with the product or that they are afraid about a box office fail. They need to start moving now.

I'm so disappointed we didn't get a new trailer during the Super Bowl. Oh well. It's gotta come sometime soon.

While the American job postings are a little more mysterious, the posting for Disneyland Paris states this casting call is for a “character and parade performer.”

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Yeah. I remember Aladdin had the same release timeline, but they did make an Entertainment Weekly cover, a special look thingy, and then the trailer. But for The Little Mermaid, the only thing we have so far is the teaser.Thumper_93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 12:08 pm The movie is going to be released in 3 months. We have received the following message in relation to the leaked doll images Farerb posted a while back.
While we know Disney is tracking the forum for leaks and copyrighted material, this is the first time we've received such a letter. Since forums and message boards are platforms and thus not legally liable for content uploaded or shared by users, this is essentially an intimidation tactic. I have informed Luke of the situation and I will let you know what he decides to do.This is a serious legal matter that requires your immediate attention. Mattel Inc. is the producer of and has rights and ownership in the dolls that are contained in the image(s) located on your site. These images can be found on your platform at: viewtopic.php?p=760920#p760920
This content contains Mattel’s confidential, proprietary information, including protected trade secret materials. The dolls contained in the images in question have not been released for sale to the public, are not currently intended for sale to the public, and are not currently for sale in any market globally whatsoever. The release of these images is unauthorized, violates Mattel’s confidential and proprietary information including protected trade secrets, is causing significant irreparable harm to Mattel, and violates a number of state and federal laws.
Venable LLP has been retained by Mattel to seek the removal of any content that infringes upon Mattel’s intellectual property or misappropriates Mattel’s confidential and proprietary information, including protected trade secrets (written authorization available upon request).
Venable on behalf of Mattel asks that you immediately take steps to remove the unauthorized content, and confirm removal of the unauthorized content with an email to david.patariu@venable.com

This is very interesting to say the least. I guess we've all seen them, it doesn't hurt to take them down, but the damage is done. You'd think they'd lean more into it then threaten legal action. Oh well, que the music...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Some instagrammers received the same mail when the dolls were leaked the first time. I don't know why they have so many secrets with this movie. As I said before it is going to be released in May. Cinderella's dolls prototype pics were released in January. Other Disney dolls have been on sale months before the movie's premiere.
I'm starting to think that Disney is not happy with this movie and that they're trying to hide as much info as they can because they don't trust in the movie. Big part of fans are actually happy about it but I'm still seeing bad comments about the movie in facebook and in another social media...

I agree to an extent. I think the movie will do very well, and they know it will. It seems to me a part of their more recent strategy, is to keep things "tight to the chest" as long as they can. Since online culture and meme life is so short, this plays well into marketing because otherwise people might be over with it before the movie even comes out.Thumper_93 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 3:21 pm Some instagrammers received the same mail when the dolls were leaked the first time. Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Seems we were supposed to get a trailer last night but something changed. Good Morning America tweeted this morning that the Little Mermaid debuted its trailer during the game in what was clearly a pre-scheduled tweet. It took them until midday to take it down. Why Disney chose to do so is very odd considering it’s most likely going to be their biggest film of the year and it’s close to wrapping next month. With only 3 months til release, the fact that we don’t even have anything beyond a teaser with only one real shot of Ariel’s face, something has to be up behind the scenes.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Well, the thing is, the tide turned on Disney's "remakes" a while ago. It's because played so many games with the public that they felt burned too many times. I mean, think of how trailers for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland looked incredible as far as the visuals and then the finished film is, well, kind of garbage... Same thing with Mulan 2020, where they hid behind the claim they were being more "historically accurate" to defend cutting massive amounts of things that made it Disney's Mulan only for the finished film to be even less like the tale than the Disney movie was. And of course there was a particular anger around TLK going the opposite direction of being almost a shot-for-shot in many cases...that was too extreme faithfulness.
You could sort of see that divide reflected back when Aladdin did so well at the box office, the public had a very high positive reaction the movie, but the critics were out for blood. I don't think Aladdin itself was what the critics had the knives out over, just they had finally turned on the idea of "remakes" altogether and Aladdin was the first to receive the brunt of it. Honestly, I think the critics started reacting that way out of feeling older icons like Robin Williams, Jeremy Irons, Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Lansbury, etc. who were part of the originals but weren't invited back (or were unable to come back in Williams' case altogether) are being "erased" or something along the lines by the existence of remakes. The animated Aladdin was/is a huge part of Williams' legacy, for example. It may be tied into how the Academy has always seen live-action as superior to animation; they may think (wrongly) that people will remember the live-action remakes for longer than the animated films since that bias skews their own snobbery.
That's all I got anyway.
Perhaps they're taking the route of a "quiet" release with this one, hoping people will simply see the title at theaters when it's out and see it for that reason, since the more that's revealed about this film specifically (when it's standing on its own legs rather than the benefit of nostalgia for the great original film), the more negative reactions seem to pile up in the comments online.

I think Disney is very nervous about this release for a lot of reasons, even their remakes have had spotty performances lately whereas they used to be a sure thing if the original film was beloved. If this film underperformed, the company's image is already weakened right now and that's simply more fodder for attacking them. The polarized reaction to the teaser was probably worse than they ever really expected, tbh.... I think the company has had a political bull's-eye on them since at least Mulan 2020 and we know how that round turned out for Disney (controversy after controversy followed by absolute floppage), and it's only got worse with the whole Florida thing the past two years.Thumper_93 wrote:I'm starting to think that Disney is not happy with this movie and that they're trying to hide as much info as they can because they don't trust in the movie. What I shared was posted in other places like Twitter or Instagram. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble so if you have to take them down, that's completely fine with me. Though I'm not sure what they can do to anyone here since no one here has signed a contract not to share already leaked materialSotiris wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 2:03 pm We have received the following message in relation to the leaked doll images Farerb posted a while back.

It is not your facult. Mattel doesn't know who released the pics so they're trying to delete them from everywhere.
When I worked with Funko UK we could not even open some boxes because the design of the figures was confidencial till the day that was marked on the box.
But Disney uses to release their merchandise really soon. It doesn't have any sense release book covers and not the dolls. There is also a first look to the plush toys of Ariel and her sisters from Nuremberg toy fair.
I also think that they are going to release a lot of merchandise that is not going to sell. Who thought that it was a good idea to release dolls of all Ariel's sisters? We don't even have the anímated ones and We have been years asking for them….
