Hmm I saw someone else giving it a mediocre review so I'm glad you enjoyed it more! Hopefully I do too.
How would you describe each of the songs on the soundtrack (ie is it ballad, does it remind you of another Disney song, etc)?
In the other review I mentioned they said it didn't have that fully realized musical feel like in Frozen, but it was more like just a movie with some songs like Tangled/Princess and the Frog (if that makes sense ). Do you agree?

Yeah, see, I am gonna be honest and say Moana seems a bit derivative of Rapunzel and Anna.
Not in looks (I think there's enough distinction between Moana and the other CG princesses).
But (from what I saw) Moana's mannerisms and personality seem akin to the others. And I dunno how obvious this is in the film, but I feel this with every trailer of Moana I see, so yeah.
yeah, like Sotiris said, they are probably reusing previous character models. That's one of the downsides of CGI. Its just easier to reuse stuff from previous films. Though the upside of course is that its cheaper and faster, which is why studios like it so much as opposed to hand drawn.
and its different from how Tiana would sometimes look like Belle or Cap. Amelia would resemble Megara, that was b/c the same animator designed and/or animated them so their style comes through in the character.
Oddly enough, this isn't a full musical like Frozen was. It's pretty much what Clements + Musker said: A movie with songs. "Innocent Warrior" is the baby trailer music and "Logo Te Pele" is during a montage of Moana and Maui, but a duet should have been on there.
Where You Are- The music reminds me a lot of "Flower of Gold" from the cruise musical for Tangled. The backup chorus reminds me of Lion King songs. Talks a lot about the village and Moana's role
How Far I'll Go-The movie version is way better than the credit version. Auld'l's voice is so beautiful, but pictured someone higher. The orchestrations are classic Disney mixed with Pacific music. The visuals are gorgeous.
We Know The Way-Skipped
How Far I'll Go (Reprise)-You can hear in a link I posted last night. But, it is so powerful and moving at the end. The scene reminds me of Mulan leaving with only the mother knowing she's leaving
You're Welcome-Very 90s Disney from the music to the visuals with bright colors and 2D animation. The rap is comparable to "Music Man" (We've Got Trouble)
Shiny-I do not have a real opinion because man, this threw off. Jermaine Clements talks-sings through Shiny with the chorus being R&S (rhythm and soul). It's really hard to understand what Jermaine is saying because he speaks very very low through the song. Look up the middle of Ruber's Song from Quest for Camelot to see what the tune is like. But, when Maui comes, that's when the song gets amazing. Very nasty and awesome visuals!
I Am Moana- Absolutely stunning. I can't really describe it because of spoilers. But, this is a song about the character of Moana and some beautiful chanting with another reprise of How Far I'll Go. The I AM MOANA belt is amazing.
Know Who You Are-Made me cry hard. It's the baby trailer music with only voices of kids are added in and Moana sings to *SPOILER* Moana's part is just like Eliza's part in "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" in Hamilton. The slowness of animation makes it so powerful
We Know The Way (Reprise)-The version in the first trailer
Thanks for answering my previous questions as well as giving more info on the songs! I kinda lost interest in the movie a while back because of how modern Maui seemed, but listening to the music posted has brought me back in. How Far I'll Go (Reprise) sounds amazing and I can't wait to see it on the big screen. I'm hoping I like the other songs as well. From the little bit I saw of Shiny, I barely even considered it a song.
We’re a dyad in the Force. Two that are one. "I offered you my hand once. You wanted to take it." - Kylo Ren "I did want to take your hand. Ben's hand." - Rey

It is. It is a whole scene.
That's good to know. I'll look forward to when Maui comes in.

I'm not sure if I'll like this as much as Frozen's soundtrack, but it could be close. It definitely sounds better than Tangled and probably TPATF (which I like more than the popular opinion). It seems like Moana the character is getting a lot of the singing time, which is good because sometimes I think the main characters get shortchanged in that department. I LOVE the clip of the reprise. I can tell it'll be giving me chills in the theater.
Not sold on Lin-Manuel Miranda singing in the film yet. His voice is so familiar to me at this point that it's a little distracting and reminds me of Phil Collins in Tarzan. I prefer the characters singing in Disney films, but this could grow on me. I do love the choral parts from that clip.
The good early reviews from such reputable sources are promising too. The main criticism so far seems to be that it's too safe and predictable, but that's Disney for you.
The reprise of How Far I'll Go was superior to it's counterpart. So it means that the song is sung by Moana internally, due to her obviously not actually singing the song on the clip?
Tamatoa seemed as bad as expected, but I've ranted enough about him, so I won't elaborate myself.
I liked the shots on We Know The Way featurette. But is the second song in the clip a song from the movie itself (the one right after the regular Te Vaka which has been promoted)?
