Explorers - I saw this movie in the theaters in the mid 80's. When I was in Best Buy's they had it for $9.99. Had to pick it up.

The book was better in my opinion.

Saw Ocean's 12 last night.

Wasn't that impressed. It was fun and all, but with a cast that big you inevitably sacrifice plot for 'cool' and 'slick'.

Not a bad film, just a little uneven. Also, it is less of a 'heist' film, and more a series of 'stuff' (set pieces one after the other).

Well right now I'm watching a horror movie I mentioned in another thread but before that the last two movies I watched were 'Zatoichi' and 'I, Robot'. They were both highly enjoyable!

I saw A Very Long Engagement last night.

Beautiful looking film, just don't go in expecting Amelie. It is visually stunning, but a lot more sombre than its predecessor. Still there are moments of levity throughout, and certainly not as depressing as I thought it might be. Still, bring the tissues, just in case.

Top stuff.

I just watched "Top Secret!" with Val Kilmer. The movie was made in 1984, weirdly it got a PG rating, to me it seems more of a PG-13 movie. It was stupidly funny, they made fun of a lot of things in it.

Lets see yesterday on AMC they had the Tammy Marathon.

And I recorded the 3/4 of the films that i didn't have. I love them. I watched

I am so glad I recorded them so I could preserve them, and i got great copies in SP mode, they look better than the tv.

The last one I just watched was 'The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring' part 1 on TV. I own the extended edition DVD but it's being borrowed so I caught it on TV.

I've never posted here, so I guess I'll start now. It seems like an easy little way to review movies without writing big, long, comprehensive reviews. So let's see, over the past week I've seen...

The Princess Diaries 2: B (Really quite a fun movie, even if it doesn't quite measure up to its predecessor.)
Mary Poppins: A+ (The last time I'd seen it was about 6-7 years ago, and it didn't really interest me. Then I saw it a few days ago all the way through and it's now one of my favorite movies of all time, oddly enough.)
Gone With the Wind: A (My first time to see this flick. I really liked the first half hour, but then it kind of went a little bit downhill for the rest of the first half (disc 1 of the 4-disc set) I thought. But then all of the second half turned out great.)
I, Robot: B- (Better than your typical summer action fare, but so far it hasn't seemed to hold up all that well to repeat viewings)
You've Got Mail!: A (As wrong as it seems to give this the same grade as GWTW, I really can't find any merit on which to take off points. Extremely fun, sweet film with great acting.)
The Terminal: B+ (The first half was really great, but then it started to lose some steam when Catherine Zeta-Jones' character got lots of screentime.)

And I think I may be seeing The Polar Express tomorrow.

I just watched The Phantom of the Opera in the theatre today with a friend.

The sets and costumes were... to put it simply, gorgeous. I don't think I've ever seen such elaborate and beautiful costumes, etc. in a film in a very long time. Wonderful art direction, etc. I was mesmerized.

They weren't kidding when they called it a musical, though. Just about every line was sung and there was very little speaking dialogue. The song that Christine and the Phantom first sing while going underground in the gondola type boat was so... epic and great. And all the reprises of it (and there were many), too.

Lemony Snickett's A Series Of Unfortunate Events - So, so, so good! I wasn't expecting it to be at all. ("A Harry Potter rip off with a depressing spin and way too many roles from Jim Carrey," I thought. Boy was I wrong in every way! Thankfully the trailers peaked my interest enough to make it worth using the free movie ticket my friend gave me!) I can't wait to read the books.
