Lnds500, you are exceptional for going to the trouble of making all those for me! Thank you so much! The only one I won't use is the one of Cinderella running from the Prince because I don't think there's enough to say that one's a mess-up, but the others like the pink bow are perfect!

But I do need the "before" frame of the Fairy Godmother to be the exact frame as the "after". Do you see how her thumb on her left hand is more up in the "after" picture? I need that exact frame. You were perfect with all the other frames though! And I'm going to hope you get the stepmother's "before" too because that one's a biggy.

Sicoe, Cinderella is probably again the worst release of Disney's prestigious titles. The new features barely have anything to do with the making of the film, except the "real" Fairy Godmother and the deleted scene. Floyd Norman told me that Sleeping Beauty's restoration made it look almost exactly as the film was, and he helped animate on that film. I too don't understand how Sleeping Beauty was done so well but Cinderella...what the heck?!

I don't really mind the color of the restorations overall. Personally I think it looks nice. The blue dress and blonde hair has always annoyed me.. but things like the color of the Prince's pants - I wonder if the original frame was dark like the restoration but on VHS, it would have only looked black so they lightened it? I don't know. I feel like colors are always up for interpretation. The line art is the real disappointment. Such a shame for one Disney's most well known films. And the lack of bonus features.

please stop it. Cinderella is one of my favorite Disney movies and your ruining it for me by complaining about a few colors and liens. :(

Get over it already. It's never going to satisfy you.

To an extent, we are. But it's not just a few colors. Half the movie's literally been changed and the missing linework is not up to Disney's standards before or since.

And dont say we cant be satisfied. Snow White, Pinocchio, and Sleeping Beauty recieved drastic restorations and masters that somehow were still accurate to the original source material. If you look at the screencaps, this isnt. And there's more, too. We *can* be satisfied and will be. Do I sound like I'm overemotional? Clrearly I do, but I'm not really emotional at all and dont find the film unwatchable, but there is a problem here.

You're welcome!! :D

It's entirely up to you, I just think the one with Cinderella running from the Prince is terrible. It's just patches of colour (her slip is purple btw), there are no outlines. If you zoom in you will see how damaging that restoration was.

I updated the Godmother and bow BD screenshots with the exact frames :)
I still can't find the stepmother though. there are a lot of frames around that specific frame used in the doc but not that exact frame. Maybe it was on another feature?

bradhig, this is my favorite Disney film, which is WHY I am talking about the bad things they did to it, because maybe Disney will fix them. If it all bothers you, don't come into this thread.

Lnds500, thanks for fizing those before and afters! And now I know what we can do, you can just use any frame from the stepmother having blue in her hair. So just make your own before and after! Also, I will use her running from the Prince then.

Ohhh...now I get it. none of that bit of animation showed up for you. I thought you just couldn't find that one frame. That's so weird no frames from that part showed up at all.
Okay well nevermind then, you helped me a lot already! Your right those few parts actually look okay, they did a good job on those.

Hey what did you mean when you wrote "her slip is purple btw?" Who's? Cinderella? What slip?

Her "slipper" (auto correction mistake). It's purple in the picture with the prince.

Hello everyone! :)

After reading a lot here for many months... and a short registration delay, fixed by Lnds500 (;) thanks again)... I would be happy to chat along now!

In a way I was in this discussion already, by means of my Cinderella Comparison between the 1997 VHS and 2012 BD:

Image

And I really appreciate all the trouble you guys go through, trying to make people, and especially Disney, aware of these problems.
As Lnds500 already told you, Disney Duster, I would be happy to help you with your efforts with my comparison as well. So please, pass it along!
Disney Duster wrote:Your right those few parts actually look okay, they did a good job on those.
Well... :P I don't think so. I agree that some parts do look fine, but "thanks" to their Contrast enhancement trickery  and again the disappearance of lines in stepmother's robe, the balance between different parts of the picture is gone.
I mean, look for example at the first and the fourth picture Lnds500 posted of the stepmother, and look especially at her hands. In the original hands and sleeves belong together. But in the Blu-ray her hands appear to float, if you know what I mean. They float in a big bunch of blue and there is no connection between them. Very bad as well.

The more I see of this "new" Blu-ray, the sadder I get really...
Disney, how can it be that a 15 year old VHS is better in many ways than your "latest and greatest" BD!?... Please honor your, and our, treasures and don't let a whole new generation grow up thinking Disney is nothing special, nothing more than all the others. Because we all know that you really are...

You're right the lines in the stepmother's shawl have disappeared in "after" of the one where she opens the door!

Yea Freddy you can join me! Your comparisons are fantastic! Tomorrow I plan to go to Jim Hill Media and Laughing Place with my post. I guess I'll just E-mail Jim Hill but actually join Laughing Place to make a thread just like this one. We should probably do Mice Chat too, that's a big well known one.

Lnds are you absolutely sure the Fairy Godmother caps are the same frame? I can't tell. Her hands in both should look like this:

Welcome to the forum Freddie! :) :)

Those comparisons are fantastic! Though arguably, one or two points could be considered nitpicking, it's all great!

yep! the next frame is the "thumbs-up frame" and in the previous frame her hand is too open.

Here is the same one from the VHS:

And besides, when it comes to the star, it doesn't really matter if it's the exact frame (it is, but even if it wasn't), because the star is visible (only smaller) in both the previous and the next frame.

Thanks Freddy.

Thanks Lnds.

I just want it to be exact frames so that no one says "How do we know you're right? Those aren't the exact frames!"

Also, I can't seem to download your files. My computer won't let me because of security risks and stuff. So should I just use the links to the images? Like, Photobucket gives me something called the IMG code which shows the whole picture in posts such as the one above with the Fairy Godmother. I'm trying to think of the best way for people to most directly see the pictures. The thumbnails you have of them are very small but if that's the way I gotta do it, whatever the links for those are, I guess I need.

If you click the thumbnail it will go to the "standard" page and if you click it again it will direct you to the full-sized image

You could get the "direct link" if that's what you are going to use. press one time at any image I have posted and the page you will be directed to will have 2 options on the right side.

Links to share this image
Embed this image

under "Links to share this image " there is a "direct link" option this will send whoever clicks it on the original image

The best way to get the link you want is under "Embed this image". Now copy the "Forum" line and in there you will find the link between the tags.
