Tell me about it! I'm an avid collector of the Disney steelbooks, and was really bummed to hear about that whole debacle. I'm not sure if this is a good sign or if this doesn't really mean anything, with it being Roger Rabbit it's kind of a funky film rights-wise and distribution-wise in the first place. And since it's being sold through a different company than they have for the past several years (Futureshop and Best Buy)... not really sure what it means. Hopefully we'll have some news as to what Disney's planning sooner than later.

Maybe, maybe not. They are working on 4K. No clue if it will catch on or not, but Blu-ray and DVD will be around for awhile. They have been talking about the death of physical media for a long time, and it hasn't happened yet. I really don't see it happening anytime soon for various reasons.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:This will be the last time on home release for Mermaid won't it, before it goes totally digital? So should get the separate DVD along with the Blu, yes?
Anyway the Blu-ray combo pack will also include a DVD. Unless you just want both for collecting purposes, I don't see any reason to buy the DVD edition (if you get the combo pack).

The physical media will not go away anytime soon. The BD is here to stay. Unless they can turn everything 3D and we can watch it without 3D glasses.DarthPrime wrote:Maybe, maybe not. SWillie! wrote:Mermaid should be getting a steel case... I don't know if you've read about the issue with Viva metal box (the company that Disney used for past couple years) being sued by Steelbook and forced to shut down, but right now the future of Disney collectible packaging is kinda up in the air unfortunately. If they continue to make them they'll have to go back to using Steelbook. I certainly hope they figure it out quick, because it looks like Peter Pan will the victim here that doesn't get one while they sort things out.Disney's Divinity wrote:But that reminds me--shouldn’t The Little Mermaid have a Steelbook, too? I hope it’ll at least look as nice as the one for B&tB’s Diamond Edition, but it’d be nice if they went for the jugular. I don’t think they’ll top Sleeping Beauty’s Steelbook though. It was gorgeous. I really wish I had been able to buy it at the time, since it’s going to be overpriced if I try to get it from now on.
Definitely steel book ! If possible, I would like to see animated series as well.

I thought about getting the Blu ray combo pack and the dvd, but them I remembered I have the trilogy box set from a few years ago. I might buy the dvd though for some gifts. My sister loves it and sh was actually born in 1989 so it's pretty near and dear to her heart.
I do hope there is a steel book and there very well could be given by October the whole lawsuit thing will be dealt with and all. Plus given the fact the Roger Rabbit is getting one is a good sign. I want one of Hunchback however

TGReaper at Blu-ray.com forum's has posted pictures of the 3 disc edition of Peter Pan. In the book it has an ad for the 3D release of The Little Mermaid. It also lists The Jungle Book as the next Diamond Edition after The Little Mermaid. Also on the disc is a trailer for the 3D release of The Little Mermaid at the theater. Either these were printed early, or its not completely cancelled.

Leave it to Disney to mess things up again here.DarthPrime wrote:TGReaper at Blu-ray.com forum's has posted pictures of the 3 disc edition of Peter Pan. Oh my gosh, do my eyes deceive me ? Are we or are we not getting this breathtaking teaser poster as the actual Bluray release cover art ?!
I don't think my nerves can stand Disney doing something right for once, that isn't theme park related....
I only hope they don't slap a really bright Flounder and Sebastian on the front.
