With those movies we have documentation and the words of people who worked on them that signify that those directors then wanted something different, so we know they're not correct. If you can post interviews with people who worked on BatB who know they changed the colors on purpose, then be my guest (no pun intended).jpanimation wrote: George Lucas claims the special edition of Star Wars is the most faithful to how he originally envisioned and William Friedkin claims his revised color timing on The French Connection is closest to how he originally envisioned. Who's to know if they're lying, they're probably not, but just because they changed their minds on decisions made years ago doesn't mean that's how it originally looked or that it's better.

HERE is how we know they are messing with the colors:
The Platinum DVD had different colors from this new Blu-ray. End of discussion. They changed the colors.

No, they already had a source that was not a film print or anything suffering from the things you mentioned - the original CAPS source would have the original colors, they would just have to use that for the straight to DVD bonus features.Mr. Yagoobian wrote:Netty already addressed this issue.Disney Duster wrote:Then what about other bonus features on the DVD? Like the brand new documentary made just for the DVD? That didn't have to be taken from film or put into NTSC!
The feature is <i>the feature</i>, the most important element of the release and the most time- and effort-intensive to prepare, and it's highly unlikely they waited until the new master for the first-ever digital media release of the film was complete before they commenced production of bonus material. It is far more likely that they had to use what they had on hand when they started production on the bonus materials, which would have been the intermediary source used for replicating the '92 VHS and laserdisc.

I caught some of this last night. They seemed to do a pretty good job modeling the cakes for the most part (Some of the characters *did* look a little off).Animalia wrote:I believe this is right topic but if it's not I'm sorry.
Foodnetwork is having a Disney Beauty and the Beast Cake Challenge premiering right now. I'm getting hungry.
I will be getting the Blu-Ray regardless of the color changes made to it.

so please shut up about the colors...I think the creators know abit more about how their films look than you do.According to the pamphlet insert, when Disney went back and reexamined the film's master elements, they found that they were covered with "white dirt and water spots," but on previous standard definition releases these defects weren't visible. In order to create a pristine transfer, Disney had to go through "extensive spotting sessions with the film's creators" and restore the elements in order to make them high definition worthy.

It's a caps film, cleaning up dirt and such doesn't change the colors. it sounds like they just needed to clean up line work from the original scan. The colors are all digital though, there is no such restoration done for that. unless, did they use any real paintings for backgrounds? still, the bulk of the paint was digital.CampbellzSoup wrote:http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/569/bea ... t1992.html

And there is no single disc Blu-Ray.
Hate to fan the flames but Im sooo disappointed that the original colors arent in this release. I know everyones has an opinion and all but I dont know how anyone can protect the saturday morning version. It looks like a nickelodeon cartoon, not the same movie that got an Oscar.
Check out this video comparison. Pay attention to when they turn off the candles in the ballroom. The original has a blue hue cause theres only moonlight.
