To think, I seriously was considering wasting my money buying the colourised DVDs from Disney Movie Club. Glad I waited, and now I can't wait for November now!
A part of me is upset that this is all the Treasures wave is offering, but it's also nice to see them doing something beyond two-disc sets. Hopefully next year they'll give the same treatment to People & Places.
Plus, I'd rather pay $60 SRP for a 6-disc set than $33 SRP for a 2-disc set.

Well, considering that for the same price, you can buy barebones colourised version of Season One from DisneyShopping, I'm surprised that the Treasures version isn't more expensive!Ames wrote:That's interesting, since those are already available through DMC & DMR. And look at the price tags. Yes, I know they're TV season sets, and that price tag isn't outrageous for those, but for Treasures?!? Really?

Well, that's awesome news about "Zorro!" I just wish I'd heard it before buying the colorized set online last month (...at least I didn't get Season 2 from scalpers yet).
I'm glad they are including the four one-hour shows too, but these should be grouped in chronological sequence, not willy-nilly between sets.
I hope these do well - - maybe they could do something similar with the anthology shows! Bravo to WDHV for trying something bold - - and keeping the shows in black & white!!!

Wow are those pricey. those won't be flying off the shelves like the last two waves did. Sadly, this could be the end of the line.blackcauldron85 wrote:That's interesting, since those are already available through DMC & DMR. And look at the price tags. Or are they just spending time restoring the educational shorts and a Ludwig Von Drake set? One can hope...UD's homepage wrote:May 8, 2009 - Disney has announced its next wave of Walt Disney Treasures and it's nothing like the first eight. Arriving on November 3, 2009 are two volumes: "Zorro": The Complete First Season and "Zorro": The Complete Second Season. Each six-disc set will carry a $59.99 list price and present its episodes complete and in their original black & white format. In addition, the four famous one-hour "Zorro" specials will be divided among the two sets (two on each). Extras will include Leonard Maltin introductions, certificates of authenticity, Zorro pins and lithographs.![]()

Why couldn't they have released Rarities volume 2 in this wave? That would have been an easy release and give something for everyone basically, b/c i'm not buying this wave since it just consists of Zorro. Nothing against the masked avenger, but just not my thing.
I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

go figure a month ago I caved in a bought Zorro Season 1 and 2 from DMC......well I guess it will make a great Elephant Gift for my Uncle who likes History War Based things that have true facts in them or tie into a realistic thing...for example he likes Call of Duty type games not Destroy all Humans or World of Warcraft.....but I think He'll like Zorro

I find this to be a very interesting development. In the Disney Home Entertainment research forum I am in, just the day before UD announced these 2 Zorro sets, they posted a survey for us that asked which Treasures sets we would be most likely and least likely to buy if they were released, and it was kind of a disturbing poll. The choices were all past releases, except for Zorro. I mean, seriously, choose between Annette, Dr. Syn, Davy Crockett, and Zorro? Of course Zorro won! It won both because it was the most recognized subject and because the few folks in the forum interested in classic Disney already had the other stuff. Sorta made me wonder what the purpose was for such a poll... Of course, I gave all my usual suggestions (the rest of Swamp Fox, the educational shorts, Ludwig, Song of the South, etc...) and my arguments about how much material Disney has that could serve the Treasures collection well. I'm not really sure how to take the combination of that poll and this announcement that we'll only be getting Zorro releases this year.
Regardless, it is an exciting release that I'll be looking forward to, assuming I can afford it! May have to buy one at a time. Disney seems to be ignoring the economy this year, as it is actually becoming MORE expensive to be an active fan (considering D23, the push for Blu-Ray, and now this nice but pricey upscale of the Treasures releases....).

NOTHING can describe how UPSET and DISAPPOINTED I am with this news. I also (like many others here) bought the colorized versions from the Movie Club...and now this news. I feel cheated...
What a waste to spend a whole wave of Treasures to something that already are out there, instead of doing something special, like "People and Places" or "Rarites 2".
Shame on you Disney Home Entertainment.
If it should continue like this next year, I rather see that they stop the Treasure line.
For the first year since they started to release them, I will NOT buy any Treasures.

Why in the world would you say that when so many of us would LOVE to have a complete b/w "Zorro" collection? This might not be your year, but as long as they keep doing this you have a chance to get what you want in the future. You won't if they stop the line.
I hope "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" (and all our other suggestions) can follow in the next wave...

When I saw the anouncement "Zorro season 1 & 2" my first reaction was a little disappointment too. I already bought both (colorized) seasons in France.
But when I read on and saw that the series will be in original black & white and that the 4 hour-long episodes will be included, I realized that this makes two excellent collector-friendly sets that fit perfectly within the Treasures-line.
The picture will probably be restored as well and there might be some bonus features apart from the introductions.
I'll definitely buy this as the contents are completely different (black & white, restored picture, bonus features) from the sets that I already own.
The only point of criticism is the timing. Had I known about this release I wouldn't have bought both seasons last year.

Well said Merlin, it's pretty sad to see such selfish comments here. There are many people who would love to see Zorro sets like these (I know one book store employee who will be more than happy with this news) released to the general public in B&W with such good treatment, a rarity these days with Disney DVDs, and just because you don't like the idea does not mean that it's a poor decision for either Disney fans or the company itself who sees this as a good business move.merlinjones wrote:>>If it should continue like this next year, I rather see that they stop the Treasure line.<<

Stop the line altogether? Foolish melodramatic statements like that are not the best way to get what you want.
Zorro BTW was a title mentioned in Disney magazine's 2001 article on the first Treasure release as the kind of show that could be released through this line. It hasn't been shown on Disney Channel since 2002 and IMO is much move overdue for a proper release than another rarities volume for example.
