Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
And once again, I'm running behind.
From the last two weeks...
In front of Her (The best cinematic love story I've seen in some time)
The Other Woman (Not even Leslie Mann could save this one for me; Rental)
The Monuments Men (If only it were still in Oscar qualification; Must-See)
Divergent (I'll leave this one to those still with a hole in their hearts following the end of the Twilight series; No Interest)
Muppets Most Wanted (Not sure what the connection is here, because Amy Adams isn't involved this time; Must-See)
Edge of Tomorrow (An unofficial sequel to War of the Worlds, perhaps?; Will Consider)
Winter's Tale (Might read the book first; Otherwise, No Interest)
In front of Nebraska (I strongly hope for the same kind of bond with my dad at 70)
The Monuments Men (See Above)
Winter's Tale (See Above)
The Grand Budapest Hotel (First potential top 10 contender for 2014; Must-See)
Labor Day (Don't expect Jason Reitman to recover from this; No Interest)
In front of Philomena (Won me over, but nothing too spectacular)
Gloria (Chile's Oscar submission for 2013; Looks Promising)
Heaven is For Real (Hopefully this can help give me proof that heaven really is within reach; Will Consider)
One Chance (An English musical with promise; Will Consider)
Belle (A lavish biopic focusing on a noted British Navy daughter; No Interest, yet)
In front of 12 Years a Slave (Powerful, but rather painful to watch; Chiwetel Ejiofor will have earned his potential Oscar win)
Repentance (It's got good cast credentials, but then again it's just a psych thriller that's outta my league just as much as Oldboy; No Interest)
From the Rough (A long delayed African-American golf dramedy with a Direct-to-video budget. Seriously, it was shot well over three years ago; No Interest)
The Railway Man (There is some potential in this; No Interest, until I see a release date)
Labor Day (See Above)
Dom Hemingway (Jude Law in what may be the next crowning role of his career; Must-See)
The Grand Budapest Hotel (See Above)

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
In front of Gravity (this time in IMAX 3D)
3 Days to Kill (Kevin Costner's decline of relevance continues; No Interest)
The Rover (Was barely paying attention during this one; No Interest)
-?-
X-Men: Days of Future Past (Uniting young and old to fight something greater than themselves; Will Consider)
RoboCop (IMAX) (I trust this'll be another Hollywood bungle to appeal to youngsters; Must-See)
Transcendence (IMAX) (I figure this could give Johnny Depp some career protection; Must-See)
300: Rise of a Empire (IMAX 3D) (Another ridiculous blood and guts war flick; No Interest)
In front of The Lego Movie (The first great triumph of 2014. Here's hoping most of the new movies I see this year are just like that)
(all in 3D, unless otherwise noted)
The Boxtrolls (2D, but the movie's still set for a 3D release; Studio behind it's had a solid track record so far; Must-See)
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (No Interest; If you have Jim Belushi involved, no way you can take this seriously)
Mr. Peabody and Sherman (Must-See, in an attempt to unlock some static-y childhood memories)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Will Consider, if I can bother to finish Sam Raimi's trilogy, then see the reboot launch)
Planes: Fire and Rescue (Must-See, but only because there's potential for growth that was lacking in the first film)
And apparently, trailers for none of Warner's upcoming releases that actually have trailers ready were deemed appropriate to accompany this film. I was expecting to see at least a toned-down edit of the Godzilla teaser.
In front of The Monuments Men
Edge of Tomorrow (Tom Cruise's next brush with sci-fi; Will Consider)
Bad Words (Michael Bluth mentors that indian kid from Jessie; Will Consider)
X-Men: Days of Future Past (See Above)
A Million Ways to Die in the West (Seth MacFarlane's long awaited follow-up to Ted. What more needs to be said?; Must-See)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (See Above)
Pompeii (Train wreck waiting to happen; No Interest)
3 Days to Kill (Kevin Costner's decline of relevance continues; No Interest)
The Rover (Was barely paying attention during this one; No Interest)

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
From the last week or so...
In front of RoboCop (Solid version for this modern age, but in no way does it surpass the original)
Sabotage (Schwarzenegger's next feature; No Interest, but only because he's clearly past his prime)
Noah (No way this could be the better religious epic for 2014, but we shall see; Would like to know more)
The Purge: Anarchy (Another inexpensive horror franchise makes its voice heard again; No Interest, based on the overall badness of its predecessor
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Won't View immediately; Easy pacing is the key, I figure.)
X-Men: Days of Future Past (No Interest, unless I can set a few days aside to catch up on the previous films)
22 Jump Street (The only must-see in this batch; The original Jump Street was a positive surprise, I expect no less from the duo who gave life and reflective meaning to a well-known toy franchise)
In front of The Lego Movie (This time, in 2D)
Earth to Echo (Another potentially off the wall family-friendly alien flick; Would like to know more)
The Boxtrolls (Please refer to my previous post)
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (Please refer to my previous post)
Mr. Peabody and Sherman (Please refer to my previous post)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (See Above)
Muppets Most Wanted (All I can say is Bring it on!; Must-See)
And once again, nothing out of the distributor.
And in front of The Wind Rises (A fitting end to an incredible career. Miyazaki, if only you could reconsider retiring.)
How To Train Your Dragon 2 (Must-See; Like any good sequel, growth is the best factor)
Bears (Must-See; There just aren't enough nature films out there anymore. Or are there?)

Gabriel, I have to ask: You must have only gotten that Lemurs trailer if your regular theater has one IMAX screen. Would I be correct in my assumption?Trailers in front of The Lego Movie (in 3D, unless otherwise noted):

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
In front of Non-Stop (Liam Neeson-led airplane thriller. Fun, but forgettable. Heed my advice, never go to the movies in the hours leading up to the Oscars)
Edge of Tomorrow (Sci-fi blunder, or well-timed delight? Will consider)
22 Jump Street (I fear the stench of second product syndrome, but still it's a Must-See)
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (No Interest, unless I can catch up on each POTA feature before it)
Noah (Will Consider, in the hopes that this will be better than Son of God*)
The Purge: Anarchy (The original was terrible, which proves just what certain moviegoers like; No Interest)
A Million Ways to Die in the West (I'm the certain moviegoer who's a sucker for a well-written comedy. If Ted worked, who's saying their follow-up won't either? Must-See)
*I did see Son of God at an early preview screening. Because of the fact that it was just cut down from that Bible miniseries, it turned out to be a real mess. I would only recommend it to those who are most faithful to their religion. Otherwise, rent it, after renting the miniseries. No trailers appeared beforehand.

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
I'm not sure if you really need to see the originals, though. I'm pretty sure this is just a sequel to the recent Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which is a separate prequel from the originals.EZLiver9139 wrote: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (No Interest, unless I can catch up on each POTA feature before it)

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
In front of Mr. Peabody and Sherman (There's fun to be had, but don't expect a deep thought-like experience that came naturally with The Lego Movie and The Wind Rises):
[in 3D, unless otherwise noted]
Annie (2D; It's a battle of who's the better musical this holiday season. I'll be game for both)
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (No Interest; Just not enough room on the theatrical market for more than one direct-to-video quality cartoon feature this year. Yikes!)
The Boxtrolls (The effect Cee-Lo can have is maddening; Must-See)
Planes: Fire and Rescue (Like I've said before, the possibility for growth in both story and scope abounds throughout; Must-See)
How To Train Your Dragon 2 (Must-See; What more needs to be said?)
Rio 2 (This may just be meant as a World Cup tie-in film, but I digress; This should be worth my time.)
In addition, Fox/Dreamworks offered up an extended preview of their joint holiday season effort, Home. An alien community appears out of luck searching for a new home. Looks to be a Steve Martin-led sci-fi invasion flick that'll be marketed up the wazoo to focus on the importance of family. Come back to me when the first official trailer drops.

Thanks for the clarification. Still, it wouldn't hurt. Since I've yet to actually view any of those films, it might be fun exploring that universe as a newcomer.I'm not sure if you really need to see the originals, though. Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
Might play better as a short, but what do I know?I thought Home was just a short.
"Almost Home" was technically a 4-minute short that gave viewers proof-of-concept for a feature film in the same universe. Exactly how Fox launched their campaigns for the Ice Age franchise in the past. Perhaps there's some confusion, as the title was changed only recently from "Happy Smekday." You ask me, which is the better title?

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
Just rolls off the tongue, it does.Almost Home seems the better title.
Meanwhile...
In front of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (Somewhat Extended, now with an 'R' rating; Second-Run)
Gravity (Must-Own)
Ride Along (This can't possibly be $1 wasted should I go on a Tuesday, right?; Still Interested)
And in front of The Grand Budapest Hotel (By Wes Anderson's standards, it does stop short behind Moonrise Kingdom, but still beautifully crafted nonetheless)
Under the Skin (This one goes beyond my palate, regardless of Scarlett; No Interest)
Mom's Night Out (This does look interesting, if only for Sean Astin; Will Consider)
A Million Ways to Die in the West (The trio that provided us Ted return for more; Must-See)
Million Dollar Arm (Must-See; already looks like a more appealing B-level Disney release than Need For Speed)
The Railway Man (Could get into this; Second-Run)
Belle (Too stuffy a period piece for my taste; No Interest)
Dom Hemingway (Modern-day equivalent of Lock, Stock...? I'm hoping; Must-See)

Rio 2 (Okay, I like Bruno Mars. I like Janelle Monae. And I really like Sergio Mendes, but the first movie didn't interest me much at all, and this looks no better to me. So I'll have to pass.)
Planes: Fore & Rescue (And I have even less interest in this one, or the first.)
Maleficent (Yet somehow, I have even less interest in this movie than the other 2 combined. I like Angelina Jolie and I love Maleficent's character, but this truly looks like a monstrosity. Why are people excited for this thing?)

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
Appearing in front of Muppets Most Wanted (Not the best of the bunch, but very far from the worst; I'd rank it at #3 behind the '79 and '11 films):
Annie (My expectations for this are higher than they should be based on this first trailer. As soon as the Into the Woods teaser drops, we'll see which one comes on top; Must-See, for now)
The Boxtrolls (Perhaps Huey Lewis was right, maybe it is hip to be square? Must-See)
Earth to Echo (The first found-footage movie for grade schoolers? No Interest)
Planes: Fire and Rescue (This is one I'll consider, but only because the original had charm; I was expecting the trailer for either Bears or Million Dollar Arm to appear here instead.)
Maleficent (In response to Avaitor, I'd imagine it's because there's a market for action-y adaptations of this nature. Those who were there for Tim Burton's Alice and Sam Raimi's Oz will go nuts. This is clearly a stepping stone. This one I will see, against my better judgement.)
PS: I can't help but think we were supposed to get something for Rio 2. Perhaps it didn't show up with the hard drive?

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
In front of Bad Words (A perfect comedy, but it's not for everyone; For the record, I should point out, that one kid from Jessie was not involved, someone else entirely)
Guardians of the Galaxy (With any Marvel fan, there are doubts when a new group enters the mix; Still it's a must-see, especially if it turns out to have some link to Ultron)
Begin Again (Looks as refreshing a summer comedy can be, regardless of involvement from two Voice judges; In Consideration)
Dom Hemingway (Must-See, if only for its Guy Ritchie-esque sensibility)
22 Jump Street (May this summer be known for a glut of raw adult comedies; Must-See)
Neighbors (Troy Barnes vs. Dale Denton in the cul-de-sac grudge match to end them all; Must-See)
The Signal (A Sci-fi/Horror hybrid for the Hunger Games crowd; No Interest, yet)
A Haunted House 2 (From the low end of the tastes of moviegoers; No Interest)
And in front of Noah (More of a visual showcase, lost me in spots; Expect a sweep in the technical Oscar categories)
Draft Day (Attending a preview this week; I'll let you all know if this one's worth it, though i predict "doubtful")
Transcendence (The next Inception, I'm betting?; Must-See)
The Maze Runner (Just found my first read of the summer, not sure why, though; In Consideration)
Get on Up (Finally, a James Brown biopic; In Consideration)
Hercules (The Rock's next shining moment/dull blunder; No Interest)
Transformers: Age of Extinction (No words for another unnecessary sequel, though my opinion could (?) change; No Interest)

Transformers 4 (hated the first 2, didn't bother with the third, won't bother with this either)
Guardians of the Galaxy (this, however, is a day 1 for me, as have been all of the MCU films)
Maleficent (still no interest)

Re: What trailers played before the last movie you saw?
Trailers in front of Mr. Peabody & Sherman (in 3D, unless otherwise noted):
The Boxtrolls (2D, but the film's still getting a 3D theatrical release)
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Rio 2

In front of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Another Marvel classic; Go more than once to assure yourself it'll make sense):
[All trailers in IMAX 3D, unless otherwise noted]
The Expendables 3 [2D] (This is where I must draw the line with the action genre; No Interest)
X-Men: Days of Future Past [3D?] (The gang's all here in their biggest possible conquest; No Interest, unless I can make time for all previous installments)
Transformers: Age of Extinction [IMAX 2D] (Seriously, three weren't enough?; No Interest)
Godzilla (This has some promise. It'd be a total pass were it not for Hal/Heisenberg. Worth my time.)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (I might be willing to warm up to this over Xs; In Consideration)
Maleficent (Like I've said before, those who enjoyed Alice and Oz will eat this up; This'll be worth my time, but possibly not in IMAX*.)
Guardians of the Galaxy (As big a risk as Iron Man #1 this might be, it's too late to turn back. Once you've seen The Avengers, you're stuck. Must-See)
*At least we know Disney's now eager enough to fully embrace the IMAX format. Fingers crossed we'll earn large-format release for BH6.
