Somehow I can't see a DVD set made up of those films being a particularly riveting viewing experience (even if it does include Four Methods Of Flush Riveting).
I'm with Lars on this one. The priority is getting the theatrical shorts released. Anything after that is a bonus.
But if Disney are having difficulty shifting sets of Donald Duck, I can't see that they'd have much faith in the sales potential of a batch of films like Hygiene In Germany: Now Wash Your Hans...

I think educational shorts would work better as an exclusive, like from the Disney Movie Club. They could break them up into 2-disc volumes, of course there would be a lot of volumes, but that would work. I just don't see the public demand being there in the Treasures line or any other line.
I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

I would be quite disappointed if I didn't have the chance to even think of buying these shorts. I live in The Netherlands (Europe), so I am not able to join the Disney Movie Club and order any DMC exclusives.chadhobbick wrote:I think educational shorts would work better as an exclusive, like from the Disney Movie Club. So for that matter, I would rather have them in a Treasures release or any other form available to the general public.

The Oswald DVD's are the ones that I've never seen before. These were all the Oswald cartoons from 1926 until 1927 where Walt Disney first did Oswald. After Walt gave up the character, he created Mickey Mouse.
After Walt created Mickey, the Oswald cartoons continued where Universal brought in Walter Lantz to do the later shorts until 1943. Lantz created such characters as Woody Woodpecker, Andy Panda and Chilly Willy after he was doing the later Oswald cartoons from the post-Walt era.
The Oswald shorts from both the Walt and post-Walt eras including a bio could be found on the Walter Lantz Cartune Encyclopedia site:
http://lantz.goldenagecartoons.com/profiles/oswald
There was only one Oswald cartoon that it is in the Public Domain which is "The Mechanical Cow". It had the TV titles featured the post-Walt Oswald. It was made by Walt Disney, and as I said, it's still in PD.

The chances of the Jiminy Crickets and the educational shorts featuring Donald etc are the most likely to see the light of day, but to be honest I doubt the other films will ever see the light of day, and we should be glad to have the couple on the "On the Front Lines DVD".bambi_nl wrote:I would be quite disappointed if I didn't have the chance to even think of buying these shorts. Most were the 40s/50s equivalents of "How to manuals" and hold little enetertainment value, most consisting of basically a simple run through of how people should do their job.
Quite frankly I get bored reading the Ikea instruction manuals or how to insert FlugenHerfen A into Spaarts Borgen B, so a DVD of about 50 shorts along the same line I doubt would get much replay
Most have never been seen by the public and short of a miracle I doubt they'll appear.

I agree on the fact that most of these educational shorts are not entertaining enough to be released. It is nice to see some of this work on the On The Frontlines set, but I cannot say that "Four methods of flush riveting" is quite entertaining. It is nice as an example of the work the studios did during WOII, but I do agree that a complete set with this sort of material is not something I would request.ichabod wrote:The chances of the Jiminy Crickets and the educational shorts featuring Donald etc are the most likely to see the light of day, but to be honest I doubt the other films will ever see the light of day, and we should be glad to have the couple on the "On the Front Lines DVD".bambi_nl wrote:I would be quite disappointed if I didn't have the chance to even think of buying these shorts. On the other hand, the Jiminy shorts (though I haven't seen any) can be entertaining I guess.
But I do stand at my point that when these shorts are released, I want to have the option to buy them or not. Releasing them as a DMC exclusive does not give me the option. "Officially" any R1 release is out of my reach, but long live region free DVD players

Not sure if they'd be called shorts, but I'd want to see Captain Eo on this list and any other films as they become availabe (as in, not being used anymore), like the current Star Tours Footage, Honey We Shrunk the Audience, atc... I definitely would love to see this stuff on some kind of a DVD release!Mr. Toad wrote:Theme Park Shorts

Of course, a lot of that educational stuff might not be worth owning, but I'd have to say some of it definitely needs to be released, like the stuff that was considered worthy of Disney Channel airings. In other words, the Jiminy Cricket shorts, the What Should I Do series, Harold and his Amazing Green Plants, and two that aren't on the list for whatever reason (unless I missed them), Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons and Scrooge McDuck and Money. I thought at least the Pooh one fell under the educational shorts list, and I think the McDuck short could be called appropriate for an educational shorts DVD set. Anyway, all those titles are on my "must have" list, but there are others I wouldn't mind seeing from that list for curiosity's sake. Not to mention I have heard there was an educational short with Alice (in Wonderland), and I'd love to get that one if it's true. Not sure if it's on the list, as I forget the title.

With your Fault-Fiction for disc one I agree ... Maltin loves to pick out even the tiniest bits of stereotypic things. In some "vault-stuff" I still search for the reason why
And this Araquan short really has violent parts.
For disc two, well ... in my eye this smoking scene expresses that smoking IS bad for you, similar to "Donald's better self", so maybe Maltin will have "good thoughts" about it. And for the gunplay-thing : There's much weapon-handling in many cartoons, for example the nasty lion and the tons of lead in his private part
After all, they're CARTOONS, damn !!

Assuming we get a Vol. 4 of Donald Duck, which we should, do you think it will include his animated features like Mickey's 4th disc did? I certainly hope so but with Disney you never know.
I'm thinking of his roles in Saludos Amigos, Three Caballeros, Melody Time, and Donald in Mathmagic Land. I have the last one and I missed out on the first two (err).
Anyways, what do you guys and gals think?

There have been less average cartoons per set with Donald than Mickey and there are a couple of more Donald cartoons than Mickey so no room for features. Might have room for Donald in Mathmagic land.Gurgi30 wrote:Assuming we get a Vol. 4 of Donald Duck, which we should, do you think it will include his animated features like Mickey's 4th disc did? Actually I have been able to figure out why each and every cartoon belonged in the Vault and as a parent of a 1 and 4 year old I appreciate the effort of the Vault and the explanation of why the depictions enclosed is wrong. I still find myself watching the other cartoons in advance to screen them in advance/edigrieg wrote:@BigDisneyFan
