I'm not surprised 'Bod. Torchwood did have one of the strongest opening episodes in sci-fi - compare it to any of the Star Trek opening episodes and it's streets ahead (and in half the runtime too).

We'll see how they feel after seeing Cyberwoman.

A total runtime of 105m 8s - that's over 1.5 hours. Let's just hope this year's are better edited (but I have a suspicion that now we don't appear to have the in-vision commentaries, content related each episode will be presented on the episodic disc.)

'Torchwood' debuts to 500,000 in America

The first episode of Torchwood was watched by 496,000 viewers in the US, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The total viewer number represents a new record for a drama premiere on BBC America. The previous record was set by Robin Hood in March, although the digital cable channel has secured distribution to more households since then.

Only 297,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic - BBC America's ad-friendly target audience - tuned in. The programme was up against a rerun of Disney Channel's smash-hit High School Musical 2, live college football - Virginia Tech against LSU - on ESPN, and tennis on CBS.

The numbers come despite a generally favourable set of reviews from the American entertainment press.

In addition, the missing incorrect special-effect shots on the current PAL release of this story have been corrected and most importantly, due to changes in UK licencing laws the original soundtrack has been restored too – including the snippet from the Beatles song!

This is presented in a special digi-pack and limited to 10,000 copies.

I'm still torn over this. I have the Davros set on order, but it’s a lot of money. I am a big fan of Big Finish, and the Davros plays alone would be over the asking price once the normal retailer discounts are applied. But would I want them enough to pay £70 or more for them? Probably not, as I haven't so far. But as a package, including the plays, the new Remembrance and the totally new Destiny, its not bad for around £70. I will still have to think about this though – I may yet cancel.

Finally the January Boxset has been announced! It's also the first non-sequential Doctor Who boxset! (But will contain three Aramay cases so the stories can still be put on your shelves in sequential order if that floats your boat).

Doctor Who and the Silurians, The Sea-Devils and Warriors of the Deep

I guess Doctor Who and the Silurians will be a 2 disc set with the story having 7 episodes. It also has issues with colouring – the VHS release was coloured by having a the colour taken from an NTSC off-air VHS copy and overlaid on the more detailed black and white PAL master. It will be interesting to see how technology has advanced since the VHS release. The Sea-Devils of course features the original Master (played by Roger Delgardo) and surprisingly is only the second DVD release to do so. It also features music made by having a cat run over a keyboard :) Warriors of the Deep – well, if you can sit-through TimeLash, you can sit though this. I actually rather like it – it is Davison after all.

The Season 3 set is a no-brainer for me, as I will more than likely get that one as a birthday present when it arrives in Australia in December.

The Davros box set is a tricky one. I have two of the titles that will be in it (Revelation and Genesis), but the other two plus the audio stuff may make it a purchase if released locally. Still, price isn't all that attractive for a semi re-release.

Of course, the January PertweeVeeDee boxset is something I am VERY excited about now. If you look above, "Sea Devils" was one of my more anticipated titles, and I'm all for more DVDs (Delgado Video Discs).

I got my Key to Time set just now! And you'll never guess what my limited edition number is out of 15,000!

It's 2999! Almost, but not quite, 2099! Somebody will have 2099 somewhere.

It's a wonderfully presented set. The box isn't shiny like I imagined based on pictures posted on the internet, but it's firm and sturdy and almost IS the Key to Time. It has a clear plastic slipcover over it which has the logo and photos printed on (so you take that off and it looks like the completed Key to Time).

The individual case covers are all uniformly great too. After the disasters that were Time-Flight and Arc of Infinity, all six of these stand out like an oasis in a desert. The Power of Kroll one is probably the worst - let's face it, Kroll just look silly - but even this is redeemed by the little Doctor and Romana hiding in the reeds which I never noticed before.

A sticker on the box says it all: Contains the complete 26 episode story arc, plus 9 commentaries (over 16 hours) plus over 6.5 hours of additional special features.

My week is fully booked.

What a day it's been. First The Key to Time and now the first two episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures

TSJA is definitely "for kids". It's hard to think while these broad slapstick adventures are going on, all kinds of torment is being endured by the Torchwood crew in the same "universe". But its good the kids get a spin-off of their own.

It depends on your sense of fun how much you'll like TSJA. Fans will like some of the continuity references (such as a mention of the Jadoon), sly references sending up the series and out and out comedy moments and lines - "He's been vinegered" really made me laugh. And who can resist a spoilt child Slitheen? Pure genius.

It's strange, because TSJA sort of has a feeling of Graham Williams' Doctor Who era (especially season 17 - the one after the Key to Time season). So I went from watching a excellent hour long documentary on the Williams era from the DVD set, to seeing it virtually reincarnated on The Sarah Jane Adventures!

I actually really liked SJA, particularly the young slitheen.

I'm really looking forward to this Davros set. I have seen many of Davros' stories but only own Genesis, so this is a good opportunity for me to fill in the gaps.

Not only will the DVD feature the new 'Davros Connections' documentary, but also all the Big Finish audio adventures featuring the character. According to many fans, the audios were where Davros was really given a chance to shine.

Davros fans may wish to see this brilliant youtube video:

Man, hyperspace always looks so freaky!

Of course, then someone will point out that "The Simpsons" did it first...

I see. A YouTube poster posts up a clip (which is technically small enough to be legally used for fair use and critisism and Fox lawyers get it pulled. Fox use a clip from the BBC and its legally OK because it's "parody".

Gotta love the corporate mentality. One rule for them, another for us.

Could be. But K9 and Company is coming out in early 2008, so it could be for that.

BTW K9 is to make another cameo in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures soon!

You know I can't find mention of this online, but yesterday's News of the World was claiming that Billie Piper is on the verge of signing for a 3 episode return to Doctor Who at the end of the next series.

Whether it's true or not will remain to be seen, quite frankly I'm still waiting for them to bring back Friends with Queen Elizabeth II in the role of Monica like they reported last week.

I don't know about Friends, but there is a rumour there will be a return to the Parallel World for Doctor Who. RTD has supposedly written the scripts. However, this would be for Tennant's swan song, and being as Tennant has signed up for the specials in 2009, it seems unlikely Rose (and Mickey and Jackie)'s return would be then.

Perhaps the 3 specials in 2009 will be set in the Parallel World, and end with a regeneration?

Personally though, I think Rose should just be left alone now - much as I want to see Jackie back - and the show should move on and look to the future.

Digitalspy have got wind of the News of the World article.

To be honest £20,000 doesn't sound that much.

Sarah Jane Adventures: Eye of the Gorgon Pt 1

Wow! Wasn't this great. Much more traditional than the Slitheen story, and very WHOish - it would easily fit into a 70's Doctor Who season. I loved this - it was fantastic. Can't wait for part 2 next week.

I recorded the "one week in advance" showing on the CBBC channel. It's great (and this time actually a little spooky for the young ones).Well worth watching! :D

And look out for the "Sontaran" reference! (More indications Doctor Who's S4 arc/big bad is the Sontaran/Rutan war?)
