Ouch! Even though dual-layer discs can indeed hold 270 minutes at standard definition, there would still be compression issues galore! One reason I like to try and keep my bonus discs around the 200 minute mark (though a few I've been working on have been pushing it and reaching 225).

All in all, really great job, SoD! ;)

Working on longform specs on the mythical Ten-Disc Legacy Edition of The Black Cauldron, which I never would have done except it was funny in that post with the wikipedia examples, lol.

Do you think it would be better to add another disc and transfer some of the bonus features onto that disc? I can't wait for you BC set! It sounds exciting! Can't wait!

Sorry I didn't get back to this yet, it oddly slipped my mind...

Anyways, if it were up to me, I'd move the 147 minutes of bonus features on Disc 2 to a whole new disc, and use that disc as a building point for moving several extras from discs 3 and 4 (probably 30 minutes from each disc). Then I'd have an additional disc for whatever still needs to be transported to another disc from discs 3 and 4; this way each disc would have a reasonable amount of material without compression problems. This makes it a nice grand six-disc set! Yay!

Also, I'd shift the multi-angle feature from disc one to disc two. I've done that on several of mine (not posted yet) simply because I've turned it into the multi-angle Animated Experience, that way the film on disc one can have the entire disc to itself, and multi-angles use up a lot of disc space (since the angles are all encoded on its own, so 4 angles of 75 minutes is really 300 minutes). Even though 200 is the best amount of video footage for good quality, I figured storyboards and rough animation don't need to look pristine, so they can be encoded at a lower quality and still make the viewing experience pleasant.

And I promise, the Black Cauldron 10 disc will be exciting, if obnoxiously lengthy! There are...FOUR versions of the film on this set...with one being what I like to call the Reconstructed Cut (100 minutes).

The Bros. Grimm version is one of the variants to the tale, and focuses only on the first part of the tale (conveniently omitting Basile's and later Perrault's second part involving the Prince's ogress mother.)

Thanks, a little reconstructing of the set, and I'm in business. I still can't wait for your BC set. Does the Reconstructed Cut include what would have been in the movie if Katzenberg had not wanted it in there? I mean, it would make sense.

I'll just say that the Reconstructed Cut utilizes new animation and a reshuffling of scenes to change the structure of the narrative.

Are you going to do Pinocchio? If so, how many discs will there be? I'd say eight.

Considering the fact that I already listed what my eight-disc collector sets were, no, Pinocchio isn't an eight-disc set, sorry. I haven't even started my shortform specs for it yet, so it'll be quite awhile before I post it. Still working on my Black Cauldron 10-disc as well.

I guess that's okay. If you looked at my post on the Legacy Edition of "Pinocchio", you would noticed that I had already taken one for the team. You never did tell me what you thought of it. As a great bonus, I had on the fourth disc, "The Walt Disney Comedy and Magic Revue", a DVD release of the 1985 video release, which features several Disney movies, some more prominently than others, including "Pinocchio". Again, what did you think?
