the kraken was killed because it would pose a threat to the EIC, davy jones could've used the kraken to strike against EIC at any time with it. so the dutchman is somehow powerless. and it is to control davey jones as well, the kraken's death is sort of a blackmail also. and...it would've been boring to have another movie with a kraken battle. even two kraken battle is unbearable, its a squid for god's sake. its wobbly and tentacly..i didnt like it much

That was what I was going to ask - so the "officials" in charge of counting box office don't/won't count the sales on Thursday - makes sense because that would be cheating. I may not make it tonight due to work, but at least my ticket was paid for and will count towards the weekend. What a trouper, eh? Saw the movie yesterday and have to say that some parts was amazing and some parts made me go "meh". As a whole though it was good.
Below are spoilers so if you haven't seen the movie then don't bother reading further.
-ok first off, I have to say, Barbossa really made my day. I think he IS the star of the movie. He just that damn cool.
-Other guy I like in the movie was Joshamee Gibbs. He was one of the secondary characters I just to a likeing to. Plus look like one of my favorite anime characters too. hehe.
-Seo Feng had less scenes then I would thought. that kinda sadden me because he was great in the movie. I also like the whole chinese atmosphere in the begining of the movie
-ok i know the love deal was one of the mian stuff for this movie but really turn me off.
-I'm also confuse how the kraken died. Who killed it?
-I didn't mind the mutiple betraying. Why? Cause they're PIRATES! That what pirates do!
-I really like did like the other pirates. Gave awesome sense of diversity and I love that.

It like the other ships just stood there and watch.
-I always hated that damn Cutler Beckett and was overjoyed he got his ass kicked. he was just a prick that made me want to punch his pompous and haughty british face.

I didn't get to go on Thursday evening, as planned. One of the people we were planning to go with backed out, and then another ended up being sick. So, we've decided to go sometime, next week, hopefully. At any rate, I will get to go free. I just received two $10.00 Movie Cash certificates in the mail, for participating in the 7-11 Spider-Man 3 web promotion! I can use them for any movie I want, so, Pirates it is!

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" raked in $43 million domestically Friday, well behind the $59.3 million opening day for "Spider-Man 3" just three weeks earlier, according to studio estimates Saturday.
The numbers for "At World's End" were skewed somewhat because the Walt Disney Co. had preview screenings at about 3,000 theaters Thursday night in advance of the movie's official Friday release.
The movie pulled in $14 million at those screenings, putting its domestic total at $57 million in just over a day. Without the Thursday screenings, much of that business would have been done on Friday instead, putting "At World's End" in range of the top single-day grosses.
"Spider-Man 3," released by Sony Corp., had broken the single-day box-office record of $55.8 million set last July by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," part two in the action-comedy franchise starring Depp as boozy buccaneer Jack Sparrow.
"Making $57 million in a day and a half is not bad for a bunch of pirates," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. "Had all those preview numbers been folded into Friday, it would have maybe been the second-biggest single day in history."
"At World's End" also grossed $43 million Friday in 102 international markets. That put its worldwide total at $141.2 million since it began rolling out overseas Wednesday.
Despite opening in a record 4,362 theaters, "At World's End" is unlikely to break the all-time high for a three-day weekend, also held by "Spider-Man 3" with $151.1 million, said Chuck Viane, Disney head of distribution.
"Spider-Man 3" snatched the record away from the "Pirates" franchise, which had set a new high of $135.6 million with "Dead Man's Chest."
Viane said the record Disney aimed for is best four-day Memorial Day weekend debut. That record is held by last year's "X-Men: The Last Stand" with $122.9 million.
"At World's End" has a shot at that mark if it maintains its Friday momentum.
"Today's date is what matters," Viane said Saturday.
"What matters to me now is how is it going to do today?"

Thanks for posting the article, MM1. Ok so this answers my questions - they DID open in a record number of theaters, so they were not handicapped by that. And it looks like opening Thursday was not a good move, since none of those totals got added to Friday. I"m sure that many more people jump on the bandwagon when they hear about a film breaking box office records, so had they waited until Friday, I think they would have had the same momentum as last year. Also, it appears they missed beating Spiderman III by 2-3 million so I guess it wouldn't have mattered in terms of a single-day record, but at least it would have put them close to Spiderman III. Now the movie almost looks like a disappointment with just $43 million for Friday. You are welcome, Pluto Region1. While it certainly would have been better for Disney to NOT have the early Thursday screenings, I can see why they did. I believe it was due to the length of the film. Regardless, I feel Spider-Man 3 did so well, because the demand to see the film was so front-loaded. Mainly, because a few years have passed since the previous film. Spider-Man 3's daily totals were higher than the previous two films, for the first three days, only. Since then, it has trailed the daily totals of either of the previous two Spider-Man films. It has been in release for 22 days, domestically. In the 22nd day of release, Spider-Man 3 has earned $293,492,000. In comparison, Spider-Man 2 earned $310,766,413 by the 22nd day, and Spider-Man earned $305,073,768 by the 22nd day. So, as you can see, Spider-Man 3 is trailing behind the previous two films. That indicates that the film was certainly front-loaded with demand, and has since trailed off.
I think the situation will be different with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Certainly there is great demand to see it, but, with the holiday, and the fact that Disney chose to do earlier Thursday screenings, I think it will be spread out more evenly.

Oh wow, that is interesting! That almost seems to indicate that people ran out to see the film because of the hype. Back to POTC, so even if POTC won't break some single opening day record, you've reminded me that it likely won't fizzle out either. Perhaps it will eventually do a total Box Office # that'll beat Spiderman.
