The failings of the 2016 Ghostbusters didn't fall solely on people being upset about the female leads, it was also just a bad movie.

The Lion King's remake was nearly a shot for shot remake of the original and is yet the top grossing animated film of all time.

In the end, Disney is in the money making business and The Little Mermaid title is one of their most successful. It doesn't need to win an Oscar, it just needs to turn a profit. It's a cynical way to look at the remakes, but Disney is cynical in the way they've been produced.

I don't see Aladdin and B&tB as very different from one another. There are a lot of hilarious moments in B&tB. LeFou mostly, but even the giant snowball in "Something There" or Cogsworth being repelled by his wife at the end. TLK is the one that's different of those three that fall in the faithful category, as far as it being much more strict in its faithfulness, but that doesn't surprise me considering that film was considered the peak by Disney for two decades. If Frozen is re-made, I imagine it would also be as strict. Then again, Anna is a redhead which normally means the character must be racebent...  It's funny, I would think a brunette character would make more sense for racebending than red or blonde-haired characters, tbh.

Anyway, we all have different benchmarks on what counts as "unfaithful." Somehow I expect this forum's line will be Ariel defeating her own villain and having a mother who's alive. For me, it's the racebending, genderbending, "super"bending, character cuts, etc. If they weren't interested in remaking the original film, why were they even involved with this in the first place?

To me, Beauty and the Beast took all the fantasy elements of the original movie and made them realistic, for example, the designs of the enchanted objects, the castle, Belle's dresses etc. Aladdin, on the other hand was a lot more laid back, not everything was so serious. And it was very colorful, which is something that is very rare in movies nowadays.

Only Belle's yellow dress bothered me visually in Beauty and the Beast. That one was not realistic actually, but it wasn't good, either. All the rest of the "realistic" visuals for Beauty and the Beast I loved!

Also, Divinity, don't forget the Genie in Aladdin got racebent, too, and you thought that was faithful. Yes, he was blue for most of the movie, but Ariel's getting red hair, and for the Genie the actor was Black instead of white like the original.

Yes, I think Aladdin was faithful and this is not. I don't agree with you.

Still? Well, OK. You are sticking to your opinion in a polite way, which is commendable.

The poster's nice overall. It's atmospheric and alludes to the poster for the original without copying it. The tail and particularly the fins are way too busy though. They should have gone with the original's simple yet effective design. Sometimes, less is more. To be honest, I would have preferred they used Ursula's necklace for the very first teaser poster to match the posters of the other remakes where an iconic object from their films was highlighted (slipper for Cinderella, the rose for Beauty and the Beast, the lamp for Aladdin etc.)

I didn't see that long...fin?--going up the back of her tail all the way up to her waist in the teaser. I thought it was just the fin at the bottom of her tail itself that was embellished... They've made her lower half look dress-like and it's just plain ol' ugly, just like the pink and white dress we saw a while back.

Too bad they didn't have the palace in the distance, but it'll probably be, what, orange or something instead of gold.

I really like this poster, including her tail :P .

To me, the tail style looks like it's reminiscent of a gold fish tail. Which I think makes it look lighter, delicate, and more fantasy like. I also agree that with the fin running up the back of the tail it makes it look more dress-like. I'm digging it. I guess it's just a taste difference.

I think they made her tail more dress-like because in the film she literally changes fins. She gets "FastFins" at some point that make her swim faster.

What??? I don't even understand, these people are dipsticks. It sounds like in Kingdom Hearts when you need a stronger swimming ability to reach the final boss at the end of the world. Maybe they did this so Ariel can swim faster to battle the whirlpool Ursula creates at the end. That's the best I can think of, but I imagine it's most likely purposeless.

Her tail just looks enormous like a giant worm and "shaggy." Actually, it reminds me of an eel. Maybe that's the reason F&J were cut, so they wouldn't be confused for Ariel.

I really like the poster, it reminds me of the original film's poster, with Ariel on the rock, with the moon behind her.

It's a stupid idea, that's for sure. They could have made fast swimming a mermaid feature without having them change fins. Here's more on FastFins, for anyone interested.

I agree. I understand what the filmmakers were going for—something otherworldly and fantasy creature-like—but it failed in execution, in my opinion.

Just that word "FastFins"... It reminds me of some product or something, but I can't think what it is. FastPass maybe? What a stupid name for it. I believe KH called its ability Mermaid Kick, but video games have gameplay semantics like that, it's not in the story itself.

I don't know why they didn't just have her ride a giant seahorse like in the series or a dolphin. But then, mermaid tails already looked just like dolphins...which is why they should already swim much faster than normal fish. :X

Are you sure it's going to be in the film itself and not just in these books, which tend to be just official fanfics?

The poster is so beautiful! It's perfect! Ariel longing for the world above, but she's still under the sea. And I absolutely love what they did with her tail! I liked it ever since the trailer.

Just had a stray thought about how this movie's still a whole year away, and couldn't help thinking that the dislikes will probably be up to 5 or 6 million by then.
