Yes, yes in the context the pop run works! I bet it was Halle who wanted to do the pop run, but I wouldn't know.

You know, Divinity, she really did get her yearning, and the visuals for this are otherworldy and haunting, with lots to see, Divinity and Sotiris! So I would not worry about those!

It worked when I found it, but it seems it has been taken down. But, I've now found the full song (except from the first verse, but I think that part was never recorded judging by the video that only included the audio). I hope you're able to listen to it before it gets removed as well.

I didn't like it at all. Too much trilling and auto tune in my opinion.

I don't think any of the original voice actors have anything to fear with these remakes. :p.

It might not be your taste but suggesting Halle Bailey would need auto tune is preposterous! She is a MORE than phenomenal singer. Do not forget that the audio is VERY low quality!

Auto tune is used all the time, even on professional singers.
I definitely sensed auto tune when she sang "moooooooore", "staaaaaaand" and "buuuuurn" (and it seemed that it was set to the wrong phoneme as well because it sounded like bern instead of burn).

The DisInsider points out that Noma Dumezweni and Art Malik's roles have been revealed by Disney. Noma Dumezweni is playing Queen Selina and Art Malik Sir Grimsby. Their names are included in the description of the teaser trailer:
The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey (“grown-ish”) as Ariel; Tony Award® winner Daveed Diggs (“Hamilton,” “Snowpiercer”) as the voice of Sebastian; Jacob Tremblay (“Luca,” “Room”) as the voice of Flounder; Awkwafina (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) as the voice of Scuttle; Jonah Hauer-King (“A Dog’s Way Home”) as Prince Eric; Art Malik (“Homeland”) as Sir Grimsby; Noma Dumezweni (“Mary Poppins Returns”) as Queen Selina; with Oscar® winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Being the Ricardos”) as King Triton; and two-time Academy Award® nominee Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?” “Bridesmaids”) as Ursula

As you may remember, they were both spotted on set last year:

I don't think the grotto or the scene itself that we see looks otherworldly or haunting, no, but she did get her yearning right and I said so in my first reaction to the D23 stuff yesterday...
blackcauldron85 wrote: Sun Sep 11, 2022 5:26 am I can't find it, but I think someone here said that the "pop runs" she sings aren't so bad in context of the song...the more I hear it, I'm getting used to how her version is and it's good.
I actually don't think she does any pop runs other than that "wish I could BEE--heeEeeh." Other than that, she doesn't really that I noticed. She does go upward some notes (perhaps whole octaves?) on the final part of "love to explore that shore up aboooOOOOOOOOVE," but that part still sounds really pretty to me even though it's different. And maybe with it being live-action, the extra stress right there works since animation is just more powerful to look at in those character moments than a real person is.

Admittedly, it *was* very low quality, but it didn't sound autotuned to me. Sometimes they do autotune harsh edges off voices of even people who can sing very well, but that's usually people who I don't know, have a more raspy texture to their voice, her voice isn't really like that. There may be a little autotune, but nothing noticeable for me anyway?

So I was right that Grimsby and Queen were likely having some sort of romantic chemistry themselves. At least I think there was some kind of debate back when over that image that it might simply be a King character rather than Grimsby. Perhaps they added a Queen to balance things out. By that I mean how you have a King with no Queen in charge of Atlantica, now there's a Queen with no King in charge of the human palace. Probably helps soften the whole gendered complications between Ursula and Triton a little, too, to show female power isn't evil, just Ursula specifically. And a Princess Diaries-esque romance between the Queen and one of her servants can be entertaining background fodder, imo--probably centered around Eric wanting to marry Ariel when they think she's some random girl rather than a princess (as in a "If they can get married, why can't we?" kind of thing). I like the addition--although I think I might've liked it better if Grimsby and Carlotta were made into more of a couple. I suppose Carlotta won't be there as a mother figure since there's a literal mother in the story now.

You know, I never noticed before, but Grimsby / Carlotta / Louis are very much a predecessor for Cogsworth / Mrs. Potts / Lumiere.

Yes, maybe they took that into consideration. Another reason could be to fix the "plot hole" or lack of information about Eric's parents in the original. Also, the remakes tend to add new female characters since there weren't that many in the originals.

I wonder if Carlotta is one of the two actresses below, which also appeared in the set photos. They look like maids to me.

I liked the footage we got of Halle singing, she sounds awesome. It really gave me Cinderella 1997 vibes, especially how Whitney would do those little trills and riffs in the R&H songs. And I love that version.

As has been said, Halle doesn't need autotune and she probably wasn't autotune at all, unless someone here really knows that much about autotune, which I just plain doubt. I don't think anyone here has themselves autotuned some really great singer like Halle is.

Divinity, the reason I said she captures the yearning is because you said it and I was agreeing with you! Don't worry, I had read those posts of yours just like the one I read where you said the original song's visuals were "otherworldy" and "haunting". Why do you think I used those words? ;) I am disappointed you don't agree about the visuals, but hopefully you at least think the scene looks pretty and the right mood like I do.

Guys, I think this is gonna be Disney's best remake. Ever. Yup, that's right. I, who's favorite live-action film is Disney's Cinderella remake from 2015, am saying this film will be the better remake. We are in for a treat.

Yeah but those downvotes are just coming from racist Trump Supporters that see woke boogeymen in every black actor.

Completely paranoid and delusional.

If you’re scared of a black little mermaid you need serious medical help.

And I could likewise snarkily suggest YOU seek psychological help for your Trump Derangement Syndrome. But I won’t because I’m not a bully. I’m a live and let live kind of queer. I apologize for triggering you, Paddy.

I was talking about people in general that downvoted it with racist motivation and that they need help, not you personally. But it’s interesting that you felt I was talking to you. Why would you assume that? Unless you’re openly racist there’s no reason to assume that.

I took the words “if you’re scared “ literally. Sometimes it’s difficult to discern intent from the written word. And let’s be honest, Patrick, you have a history of attacking my posts personally rather than just disagreeing..
