After all we have a princess, a love story, a popular male lead... And the movie is pretty popular in Europe and East Asia afaik

I'm curious if they could have ever managed to adapt the canyon scene with the whole Rapunzel's hair CGI lol. I just can't imagine a scene like that in a live action. I remember even thinking when first seeing it that a scene like that is only possible in animation and would look too ridiculous in a movie
I'm sure that in a LA she would wear her hair in a braid like the one that she wears in the village scenes. It's more cheap and more easy to make. They would make it loose in the scenes that take place inside the tower but outside there's no need to let it loose. In real life it would get dirty as soon as she touches the grass rotfl
Yeah you're right, Rapunzel Tarzan-ing on her own hair would have been too wild in a live action too

I think the movie will eventually be made. They just took a break to rethink their strategy. If they stay true to the story and cast the right actors, the movie should work fine. Although I can't really imagine how Maximus would be; he's one of my favorite characters in the animated movie, and I can't imagine how he will look in live-action CGI.

According to a new report from noted insider Daniel Richtman (aka DanielRPK), the Tangled live-action remakeโ€™s chances of continuing in development hinge largely on the success of the planned Moana live-action remake. Should Moana be a success, Richtman believes Disney will begin development again on Tangled.

Well, it`s the way it should be. They should decide go ahead with it if the Moana remake becomes a hit and not completely scrap it due to the failure of Snow White.

That'll probably put this film around 2030, a full twenty years after the animated movie. It might actually have something like a legacy by that point.

And I'm suddenly realizing my knees could go any day now ...

Speaking of which, isn`t it strange how Disney have announced both Tangled and Moana as upcoming live action remakes, but not Frozen? Since Frozen was the biggest hit of them, it`s remarkable how it haven`t been announced. Despite how we all know that it`s mandatory remake will eventually come sooner or later...

They might be trying to squeeze all they can from the property with animation and its upcoming sequels before they make the jump to live-action.

Im just happy with Sabrina having an upcoming album (which came as a big surprise, i mean her huge successful SnS album didnt even release a year ago :? (She should have milked it tbh) ) basically meaning that she wont do Rapunzel either way. Weve seen what happens to most actors related to the disney live action Departement (although Zegler kinda wrecked her Image all by herself). Sabrina would be so good on paper but also with her controversial Rolling Stone covers etc, people would automatically boycott her, even if she would nail the role. She dodged a bullet tbh 8).

Just hoping the unnecessary Moan remake flops and we are all save!

The Moana remake is a lock hit, I'd say, much like L&S and (eventually) Frozen. That guarantees this one then. Looking forward to the soundtrack. It could be better than the original's, tbh, if they get a good singer as Rapunzel and let the music actually shine. Hopefully the power ballad originally intended for the spot where "I See the Light" is gets re-purposed as an end credits song or something.

According to The Disinsider, Tangled live action is still in the works.

Whatโ€™s about Tangled live action remake? is it possible the movie will be back from the pause after the success of Lilo and Stitch?

When reports surfaced that Tangled was put on hold it was my understanding it was a precautionary move. As far as I know the movie is still in the works. Of course, now that Lilo & Stitch is nearing $1 billion at the worldwide box office we could see Disney fast track the project again.

Not sure if Carpenter would still be involved or not. To me, Rapunzel is easy to cast unlike other princess characters. As long as she's got blonde hair, they can give her green contacts and makeup freckles. The actor doesn't need to be a great singer either.

The only casting I feel adamant about is Cher as Gothel, I hope something like that were to happen. I really can't see anyone else playing her and making it as fun, or bringing as much enthusiasm or draw to the project as she would. Now if she'd even be interested is the question. Just like Bette Midler would've been the perfect Ursula, but I'm not sure she'd have wanted the role anyway.

Cher did a reading of The Witch for an early attempt at an Into the Woods film. She would have been Rapunzel's adoptive mother there, too. Man, I wonder if that early attempt would have been better (as long as they didn't have the Baker's Wife survive and crawl out of the Giant's nose like the idea they considered). Cher as Mother Gothel would be freaking amazing.

Cher would look amazing as Mother Gothel but I'm not sure that she can sing in the style of the animated one....Cher has a very characteristic voice and a peculiar way to sing. They should make some adjustments to the soundtrack to make her more like her style.

Donna is a soprano and Cher is a contralto. Their voices are really different so they should transform the song to adapt it to Cher's voice. Of course they could do it but in my opinion it wouldn't be as great as in the animated movie. I honestly would search for a more unknown person. Cher is also old, she looks great but she's 79 years old. If the movie takes 2 or 3 years to be produced then she would be like 80/81 years when the movie starts filming. I honestly think that they should search for someone who's more young.

You know, I think you are completely right, Thumper. I mean, Mother Gothel is supposed to get eternal youth from Rapunzel's hair.

Q: Any idea of the cast of Tangled Live action? I know itโ€™s still paused but any news on potential actors? I heard that Scarlett Johanson might get Mother Gothel roleโ€ฆ

Skyler Shuler: No, this one is completely on hold at the moment. While Johansson isnโ€™t a name I heard, I did hear at some point the studio had eyes on Kathryn Hahn and Susan Surandon but that obviously never confirmed.
