Re: Saving Mr. Banks
Wal-Mart's Website has a link to Saving Mr. Banks with a release date of March 18th. What's more odd, is that if you do a manual search on Wal-Mart's website you won't find it, however the link is below
http://www.walmart.com/ip/33867650?wmls ... 15&veh=aff
I'd take this with a grain of salt though because Wal-Mart's website also offered a 3D Combo Pack of Frozen to be released in March, however it and all pre-orders for Frozen have been pulled from it's website so I'm not sure if this is indeed the release date for Saving Mr. Banks or not.

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
Just got back from seeing this movie. I was originally not going to see this movie, but after reading the reviews on this thread, I changed my mind. And much to my surprise, I enjoyed it very much. I thought I was going to be bored, but I did not nod off or yawn once.
It definitely helps to have seen "Mary Poppins" beforehand, which I did a few days ago. Otherwise, I don't think I would have liked it as much.
I hope more movies like this, get made.

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
It's b.o intake has almost doubled it's cost already in the U.S. so it's doing very decent business. If it gets an Oscar nom for Best Picture, that will give it one last boost. Right now, even if it gets a Best Picture nomination, the only possible win is for Emma Thompson, though she is still behind Cate Blanchett in most predictions.
I'm pretty sure that Disney is marking this one off as a success.

My girlfriend has never seen footage of Walt Disney. I've failed her as a Disney Aficionado, so I popped in a Treasures DVD and we watched some of Walt on the Disneyland's 10th Anniversary Show. She hasn't seen the movie yet, and I'm taking her to see it on Thursday.

A real shame Emma Thompson wasn't Oscar nominated for this. Real real shame.

Why do I have a feeling this is because of what Meryl Streep said. Ugh, so unprofessional of her to say that at that very moment. It was a thing of wrong time and wrong place to say those things that she did while she was mainly there for support of Emma ThompsonAtlantica wrote:A real shame Emma Thompson wasn't Oscar nominated for this. Amy Adams was going to get nominated to give some more recognition for American Hustle, so some actress had to go. Sadly it was Emma Thompson

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
Well Best Actress was a really competitive category this year. There were 6 really big names with very strong performances fighting for 5 spots and unfortunately she was the one left out
Cate Blanchett has the win locked up regardless, but the nominations were really tough.
Saving Mr. Banks did get a nomination for Best Original Score, but nothing else unfortunately.

I think the ballots were already sent in, when Streep said those comments. So I don't think they had much influence.disneyboy20022 wrote:Why do I have a feeling this is because of what Meryl Streep said. Ugh, so unprofessional of her to say that at that very moment. But I'm still surprised at Mr Banks' lone nomination. It seemed so much like the Academy's cup of tea.

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
How would Meryl's opinion of Walt hurt Emma's chances of being nominated? That doesn't make sense. I haven't seen every performance in that category yet, but it's a real shame.

I'm actually shocked that she was snubbed. I would have rooted for Blanchett anyway, but still I was totally expecting Thompson to at least get a nomination.

I don't quite understand why they include an additional running time that's off-set by an hour, unless there's another hour's worth of material that hasn't been passed yet. One can hope, but given Disney's lack of care in the supplements...

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
There's one problem Disney did in marketing this film. They didn't advertise Collin Ferrell and he gave one heck of a performance and was if Disney would have put some more spotlight on him I feel he could have been nominated by some awards show for Best Supporting Actor

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
Colin Farrell did wonderfully, but so did everyone really. Ruth Wilson was absolutely heartbreaking. She made me tear up more than anyone else. Paul Giamatti's performance was a little gem too. I think every performance was top-notch. It makes me really sad no actors got nominated (but especially EMMA).
But, I'm very pleased with the Thomas Newman nom.
Maybe he'll actually win this year. God knows he deserves one sometime. He's had so many nominations.

Yeah the score in the film was amazing in this film and is one of the reasons it worked so well.

She basically said that he was sexist, racist etc you know the typical, usual negative rumors and assumptions about Walt.ajmrowland wrote:

I think what she said, did change things. They love Meryl, alot. So they most likely listened and agreed to everything that she said.
Meryl has power and she knows it, and those with that power, usually use that power.

Re: Saving Mr. Banks
Voting for nominations began on December 27th and ended on January 13th. Streep's comments didn't hit the media until January 9th. I find it hard to believe that in five days time, Meryl Streep managed to undo nearly two weeks of voting.
