There's nothing wrong with the title "Big Hero 6". Did they change "The Fantastic 4" to just "The Fantastic"?Disney's Divinity wrote:I never thought about that. I don't really know the history of the comic series and whether or not it has enough brand recognition to prevent a title change, but I can see executives arguing that audiences might wonder "Big Hero 6? I never saw the first five films!" or something along those lines.
Again, I don't want to start another Rapunzel/Tangled debate, but I'm wondering if we're going to get a more generic title by 2014. Disney Heroes anyone?

The Fantastic Four is more well-known though. Not that I'm calling for a title change or anything, but MJW just made me look at BH6 differently. (I, like most people I'd guess, have never heard of the BH6 property.)DisneyEra wrote:

Plot details/spoilers below:
http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/exclusi ... XETL9.dpufNext up is some more info on BIG HERO 6, the first Marvel/Disney animated film. We already know that it’s based on a fairly obscure comic book, but now we have some names and plot details to go along with it. The lead character, Hiro Hamada, is joined by Wasabi No Ginger, Honey Lemon, Fred, and Baymax, who are trying to stop Hiro’s invention, called “swarm microbots” which fall into the wrong hands. One of the key plot elements is that Hiro’s brother was killed in a mysterious accident.

Source: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/08/08/j ... awn-d23/3/Q: Big Hero 6 is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first team-up with Marvel. What’s the nature of that collaboration?
John Lasseter: It’s based upon a very short series of comic books and it’s six comic books. They’re out of the Marvel universe, but more of a Japanese manga style. We’re creating something based upon that so it’s really a Disney Animation production. A loose adaptation — like all adaptations are. They almost have to be.
Source: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/08/09/d ... ation-d23/What if a group of genius kids came together to save their city … with a friendly robot in tow? That’s the premise behind Disney’s latest, Big Hero 6. According to Lasseter, it’s “inspired by the culture of Japan but mashed up with the culture of America.” That’s true right down to the name of the city where it takes place — San Fransokyo.
Director Don Hall knew he wanted to combine his love of Disney animation with his love of comic books, so, of course he was excited to come across Big Hero 6. “It’s an underground Marvel comic about a Japanese superhero,” said Hall, who took the opportunity to create his own universe within a more obscure property. “I wanted a robot who we could fall in love with…a huggable robot,” he said, before introducing the audience to Baymax, a puffy-looking robot whose movements are modeled after baby penguins.
The hero of Big Hero 6, aptly named Hiro, is a 14-year-old tech genius who must assemble his own team when the designs for Micro-bots fall into the hands of a super villain. Armed with mechanical marbles, the team includes Gog, a bike messenger, Wasabi, a sushi chef, Honey Lemon, a glamorous chemist and part-time barista, Fred, a dude who just loves comics, and of course Baymax...repurposed into a warrior.
Source: http://www.blueskydisney.com/2013/08/big-six.htmlHonor Hunter wrote:I've known about this for a while (I mean, what did you think Blue Sky meant when we said Don Hall was directing a marvelous film?), but they finally revealed the list of characters that are going to be in the film. And they're mostly from the second volume of the comic book, not the original comic. Keep in mind that these are adaptations of those characters, and they aren't exactly the same as the ones in the comics. Don Hall wanted characters that weren't as well formed in the minds of comic book fans so that he could play with the characters more. He didn't want fans screaming at him that you didn't include this or you changed that. So if you've read the comic, you'll enjoy the movie, but it will not exactly be the same.
Here are the list of characters in the film. For those that know, and don't know:
Hiro Hamada - Based on the comic character Hiro Takachiho, a brilliant teen with computer skills far beyond his age.
Baymax - The character is basically the same as the comic, he's almost like a robotic best friend, and is largely like the character in the comic, slightly Disneyfied.
GoGo - Known in the comic as GoGo Tomago, she is the bad girl of the group; the one with attitude and reflecting as an outsider in the group. In the film she's a bike messenger.
Wasabi No Ginger - An assassin chef that is an expert knife thrower, think Bullseye if he were a cook.
Honey Lemon - She is the possible love interest for Hiro in the film, a chemist that he has a slight crush on.
Fred - Known in the comic as Fredzilla, he has the ability to transform into monstrous creature, thus explaining the name. In the film he is a comic book geek.
A little note, if you watched the atmosphere teaser that came out a while ago, if you look inside the trolley going down the streets you can see Hiro's inside. Just a little detail that you didn't know and might like.

I hope they invite Myazaki to the premiere because I would think that their close friend would be interested in seeing Japanese heroes.

Love the silhouettes! Reminds me of "Marvel vs Capcom 3"!
The purple one upfront is Hiro
The big red one is Baymax
The yellow one should be Gogo Tamago
The pink one is Honey Lemon. "I'm please thus far with her Disney design. Considering how sexual see looked in the 2008 mini series, I was wondering how Disney would redesign her".
The green one is possibly Wasabi-no Ginger.
The one in the far back is possibly Fred.
Now all we need is the "Official title logo"!

Can someone give a general synopsis of each of the six that doesn't read like a wikipedia article?

Re: Big Hero 6
Thanks. Your guesses on the characters are all spot on just based on that video.
Naturally excited to see what Disney does with the two female characters since they're not only so different from each other, but also obviously much different from what most people associate with female Disney characters
I know a lot of Disney fans are annoyed by the fusion with Marvel, but I'm curious to see what Disney does with it. Wreck-It Ralph was generally well received and it was out of the box for Disney. I'm sure it'll still have a lot of Disney charm. It's not like they're making an X-Men movie either. These will be new characters to 99% of the public, so it'll be interesting to see how they market it considering the glut of superhero movies with well-known characters out there.

I don’t know anything by the comics, but am I the only one who finds it strange that the super-girl is wearing a purse… (Tbh, putting action girls in skirts all the time bothers me, too, but it’s been done so many times before; I mean, would a woman who’s in battle really wear a skirt at a time like that…? It’s just appealing to male viewers.)
Honestly, I believe they’d make more of a fan base, if all the characters were around the same size and not as drastically different from one another visually.
DisneyEra--is Gogo Tomago a girl? No idea, just wondering.

I suggest watching the video he linked to learn about the characters.
The purse is part of Honey Lemon's "power." And yes Gogo is a girl, more of a tomboy while Honey is a girly flirt.

I have to say I am really not looking forward to this release ... just not in to the whole Marvel / Superhero thing I'm afraid. Wondering how they are going to make it 'Disney'.
I guess how I feel now is how some feel when Disney do 'another' Princess movie. . . .

As a side note, I find it interesting that the last two Epcot World Showcase pavilions without an obvious movie tie-in are getting just that with the next two Disney films.
China - Mulan
Germany - Snow White
Italy - Pinocchio
Morocco - Aladdin (not really but they're there)
France - Beauty and the Beast, The Aristocats, Ratatouille currently
UK - many but Pooh, Mary Poppins, and Alice get the most attention afaik
Canada - Brother Bear
Mexico - The Three Caballeros (kind of weak, they need a Mexican princess already)
The American Adventure - has too much of a colonial gimmick to really count as American culture
Which leaves:
Norway - Anna's meet and greet there is already planned and of course there will be Frozen merchandise in the stores
Japan - Despite changing Tokyo to San Fransokyo
there will be a Big Hero 6 presence in Japan, assuming it's a success.

Don't forget Pixar has a Dia de los Muertos film in the works . . . possibly a replacement for the "weak" presence at the Mexico pavilion?

It's part of her powers if i recall. Also she suppose to be based on very feminine and "kawaii" aspect of Japanese pop culture.Disney's Divinity wrote:I don’t know anything by the comics, but am I the only one who finds it strange that the super-girl is wearing a purse…
