It's still here at the theater in 3D, and, it's being re-released to theaters in a few months. Apparently with some more footage. In other words, James Cameron is the new George Lucas: $$$. If the cow's got milk, milk it some more.SmartAleck25 wrote: Sadly, I was not among the many who flocked to the theater during that time period.

Dark Knight was released in January of 2009 on a limited scale to try and garner up Oscar buzz. Avatar's re-release is only a money grabbing attempt.SmartAleck25 wrote:Barbossa wrote:It's still here at the theater in 3D, and, it's being re-released to theaters in a few months. is right. Hey, that reminds me. Wasn't Dark Knight re-released last year too? Those sneaky directors!

But of course, pretty much everything's about money.

I'm really enjoying some of my DVD purchases!!!On February 12, I wrote:I rarely venture into this thread because I only like to post about a DVD I got that I'm really excited for. Needless to say, the fact that I'm in this thread must mean I bought a DVD that I'm really excited for.

"Falcon Crest": The Complete First Season $29.99 at Target
If you too would like to purchase this DVD, and support UD as well, click the picture to go to Amazon.com!
I was too young to watch this series during its original run (1981-1990, I was only 5 when it ended), and unfortunately missed out on its run on SoapNet (2000-2003, we didn't get SoapNet until 2007). But I've read plenty about the series and have seen various clips online. So to finally watch whole episodes was very exciting!
The series sometimes get lost in the shuffle when people remember the 80s primetime soaps (most remember "Dallas" and "Dynasty") and this one was a bit of a middle-ground between the two. It focused on rich feuding families (The Channings and the Gioberti's), in a business (wine), and had the manipulative lead (Angela Channing). The difference was that "Falcon Crest" had a better focus on the family, as well as the class struggles (the Gioberti's, while well off, are still quite humble and working). It wasn't over-the-top like "Dynasty", and not very rugged like "Dallas". I think that's why even though I like "Dynasty" and generally tolerate "Dallas", I warmed up immediately to "Falcon Crest". It has (in the first season) the perfect balance between drama and camp, with stories and characters worth watching together (as opposed to "Dallas" which is story-centric and "Dynasty" which is character-centric).
The actors all are pretty good too, which I expected for powerhouses like Jane Wyman and Susan Sullivan. Robert Foxworth is very convincing as good guy Chase who butts heads with Angela, and I'm really annoyed that Ana Alicia's character (Melissa Agretti) wasn't introduced earlier. Thankfully, we'll have six more seasons with her
Unfortunately, there's no extras on the DVDs, not even the unaired pilot ("The Vintage Years", with several different actors & characters). The video quality is subpar (Warner Bros. says it's too expensive to digitalize/restore many of their catalogue TV-on-DVD releases, and it's apparent here), but fortunately, I heard the R2 sets for Season 2 has much better transfers, so when that comes stateside, it'll be better visually. The soundtrack is mono, a pity, as I'd love to hear the theme song in stereo or in 5.1 surround.
If you like serialized drama and "Dallas" and "Dynasty" are too extreme for you, then "Falcon Crest" is a recommended purchase.

I got over to the US to day and got this...

10 Things I Hate About You, Vol. 1 Yes, it just started in Canada and the disc is not out here so I buy it just in time for it's cancellation.

Crazy on the Outside (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy) This is only on DVD in Canada so I snatched up the BD combo at Target.

Looney Tunes: The Spotlight Collection - Volume 1
Target - $12.99
I've been craving some Looney Tunes lately, so I bought this. I went small because I know that they're releasing Looney Tunes on Blu-ray soon, so I didn't want to spend too much money...

Just bought Sex and the City, Seasons 2 - 6 (Part 2) at Costco for $12.99 each. I only had enough money on me for 6 of them, so I got 2 - 6.2, and I'll go back tomorrow for season 1.
I own the original releases of the show on DVD, but they're very old and most of the discs are worn out anyways, so I decided it was time for a replacement. The new packaging is great, it doesn't fall apart because it's in a standard-sized DVD case, and there are episode lists and summaries. HBO also completely re-authored the discs and condensed the disc count for season 6, parts 1 and 2. They also added new menus, and added subtitles and chapter stops to the episodes (though still not right after the opening credits, but that's just a little pet peeve of mine). Considering the MSRP for these is $29.98, I'd say I got a good deal. Plus, each comes with $7.50 off your ticket to see SatC 2. Overall, I'd say bravo, HBO! You finally got it right!
