The Princess and the Frog Discussion - Part III
We've Got Reviews!!!!
6 of them to be exact! 5 Positive and one calling it "the best Disney animated film in years" not to mention Entertainment Weekly gave it an "A".. which is rare. Looks like this could be the movie we've all been hoping it would be.

Welcome to UD, Babaloo! It's nice to see a new member actually post, this site gets new members almost daily and barely any of them do much.Babaloo wrote:Hey guys! This is my first post ever!!!
Anyways on to the soundtrack, I agree with you completely Mooky! I wasn't extremely happy with the soundtrack the first time I heard it. But as I listened to it more I began to like it and now I even exercise to it! My favourite song on it would have to be Friends on the Other Side, but When we're Human and Dig a Little Deeper come in close seconds (they're a tie to me). And I really like Down in New Orleans (Finale). About "Almost There", I really didn't like it, compared to other leading lady solos. But when I watched a clip of the song, I began to like it more, so we'll when the movie comes out. The score isn't amazing, but it's good...like someone else said, it has a familiarity to it. Overall I really like the album. I can't wait to see the movie so I can see if these songs grow on me more.
Just a little note, I was reading some views other people had on other websites and supposedly many people were saying that the only reason that Tiana is black is because Obama came into office. I'm pretty sure that Obama came into office way after this movie was even conceived. I know that and I'm Canadian! I just wish people would just appreciate this movie more!

I just heard the soundtrack! I must say, most of them were just as good as I thought they'd be.... except "Gonna Take You There," "Dig a Little Deeper," and "When We're Human." Those were..... much, much BETTER than I expected!

I just read the 6 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and I'm really happy that so far its getting good reviews (except the one), but I'm worried since already there's been one that's bad...
that's Variety though that gave it the negative review. they can be rather odd at times with reviews. i wouldn't worry about it. they are usually overly picky.Babaloo wrote: I just read the 6 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and I'm really happy that so far its getting good reviews (except the one), but I'm worried since already there's been one that's bad...! I was really hoping for this to be amazing (and maybe even beat Up
, although I really liked it. I just wanted this to win Best animated feature so that Disney knows that they should continue in 2D animation). But overall the movie sounds good.

Winning the Oscar really means nothing. I mean, it probably won't, because it would have to get better critical reviews than "Up", and I just don't see that happening. If you want to encourage Disney to make more hand-drawn films, vote with your money.

I think it's a similar verison from the full song sung by Dr. John, but with the voice of Tiana.broadwaybrian318 wrote:Has anyone heard the extended Down in new Orleans from The Princess and the Frog: Tiana and her Princess Friend. How is it? how much different is it?
It lasts 2:27
It's so cool, and I also love Belle's and Snow White's new songs!

I have heard it. It's good...it's basically the Dr.John version with Anika Noni Rose singing it. And the ending she holds the notes for "New Orleans", like the finale (if that makes sense). I could post it if someone told me how to.broadwaybrian318 wrote:Has anyone heard the extended Down in new Orleans from The Princess and the Frog: Tiana and her Princess Friend. You can use megaupload or sendspace to upload the song then post the link on hereBabaloo wrote:I have heard it. It's good...it's basically the Dr.John version with Anika Noni Rose singing it. That's exactly right. I'm more concerned about how much money it'll gross tomorrow at the two cities and nationwide on December 11. It would be great if it would be a smash hit at the box office, but I want it to do at least reasonably good so Disney will make more 2D animated films in the future.SpringHeelJack wrote: If you want to encourage Disney to make more hand-drawn films, vote with your money.

Disney has already made $3.2 million from pre-sales for the limited run in NY and LA. That means the limited opening weekend is going to be their biggest yet. Bigger than Aladdin, Pocahontas and yes The Lion King *gasp*.
You can bet Disney will use those headlines.
In the meantime, only Variety was mixed. All other reviews are extremely positive. 83% on Rotten Tomatoes with a rave from TIME Magazine not counted yet.

It seems that the movie will be a smash hit with everyone- families and critics- and hopefully it will gross a lot of money.PatrickvD wrote:Disney has already made $3.2 million from pre-sales for the limited run in NY and LA. I just read the Time review and I'm so happy now!!!
Anyways for those who didn't want to buy the whole Disney "Tiana and her princess friends" CD, but wanted to hear the extended version of "Down in New Orleans" by Anika Noni Rose, here's the link. I uploaded it from my computer so I hope it works!

I'm kinding worried that when I see this I will burst out crying before anything even happens, because I am just SO happy that they made a 2-d animated film again.
I can't even get through the previews on the DVD's without crying.
I'm a wuss.
Even typing this makes me tear up a little, I better get over this or else my wife won't go see it with me!

I'm extremely happy to be hearing great reviews of the film. I must admit a while ago, I really didn't care much for what I was seeing, but the trailers, clips, and others all have greatly excited for this film. I'm hoping to snag tickets for it for a midnight showing on the 11th.
I can't wait to see this!

I'm wondering if there's enough of a push for a midnight release of this. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if there was one, but I know in my area for sure there wouldn't be one. Does anyone know if any theater in Chicago is planning on it?
I'm loving that I see a preview for the film almost every commercial break on a lot of the major stations on TV. Its really starting to get people talking! I'm so excited!!!!!!
