L&E, those are beautiful!! Thank you so much for posting those covers. I am so excited right now. Wow, just wow. Disney has impressed me. They are just all so beautiful and different from anything we've seen before on a Disney DVD cover. I LOVE the third cover as well. Wow, just wow!!!

According to a Disney french forum, people will have the chance to choose the cover of the PE. These are the candidates. My favorite is the third one, it really suits the movie.
OMG those covers are AWSOME! (except the fourth one which is crap), I would pick number 3 too, but they all have aspects to like. Aurora is in pink in all of them though (speeeeeeeeeew).

At the Disney Store today i saw some repackages Prince Phillip stuff (his sword and shield from 4 years ago). The sword now makes noises and the shield is a little different but both of their packaging features the new movie logo.

I'm not a huge fan of any of those covers for some reason, but I like the third one the best, as well. I'd probably love that one if it had a purple background- I'm not feeling the green too much.

I really like the third one too, it looks great. The rest don't really look all that great to me.

the green one is phenomenal. really good.

I also like the first one a bit. having Aurora touch the spinning wheel shows a classic element of the story they hardlly ever focus on. The other ones are all complete crap

Holy (insert colorful word here), those covers are gorgeous! Like everyone else, the third one in green is my favorite. If they would just change Aurora's dress from pink to blue (which may be the case based on DisneyVillain's book cover), it'd be perfect. The second and fifth ones are great, too, even though I wasn't too wild about the second when we first saw it on that Brazilian Platinum powerpoint. I really like the concept of the first cover (it's nice seeing Aurora not sleeping on the cover for once), but the composition is all over the place. If the third one, or at least the similar fifth one, isn't chosen, I'll be seriously ticked off. I think it's the best cover Disney's done for any of their animated classics on DVD. It'd almost be an apology for how off-model the SE cover was.

:o :o :o

WOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAH! Awesome covers! I am also rooting for cover #3, its so awesome! The others ones, while they have their very good qualities, each have something that I don't like about them.

Cover 1 - Aurora and Maleficent look waaaaay off model. Aurora looks like a screen cap from the princess DVD

Cover 2 - The placement is very odd here. I love the idea of trying to communicate Maleficent turning into the drage, but having Phillip there twice is weird, and the cover just isn't really successful looking.

Cover 3 - PERFECT. That's all I can say. PERFECT.

Cover 4 - No fairy Maleficent drags this one down on my list a lot. It looks just like a cheaply re-made version of the awful 2003 cover.

Cover 5 - My second favorite. True, its somewhat similar to cover 3, but it has the weird double phillip.

So, overall, I reeeeeaaaaaallly hope cover 3 is chosen, its just too awesome! Or at least I hope they keep that design of Maleficent and the dragon together, because I reeaally love that image, I would frame that if it was sold as a portrait. I would buy the DVD for cover 3 alone, even if it only had the same stuff as the 2003 DVD.

Sleeping Blu-Ray Covers!!!!

Post by Disney Duster »

Like everyone else, or everyone else should be *coughAMYcough*, I'm amazed at these very inspired covers (except the 4th one which we've already seen). PatrickvD, I don't get why the other covers are crap because they break the mold. Or is it the amount of things on the cover the bother you? I'd say the 1st one you like isn't much less busy than the 5th one. Oh, and I too am glad to see an Aurora awake and doing the main event of the story (which is not the kiss, that's the ending).

But even though I feel the 3rd one really is the best one and, Disneykid, at least among the best Disney's ever done, my favorite color is still purple and I still would like to pack in as many elements of the story I can, as I previously said I thought Disney was going for a "tell the story on the cover" angle. But the way they have Maleficent morph into the dragon in one sweeping arc along her robe sleeve is too genius to pass up. So my favorite is the 5th cover, which adds that awesomeness to my passion for purple and packing in a little more story (it has the woods and Phillip riding to the rescue). The magical arc of the fairies' dust kind of pparallels the magical arc of the dragon's transforming neck. My second favorite is still the other purple one we saw, the 2nd one, as I now see it even has the mock prince made of animals and the spinning wheel!

And yet, even Disney's most innovative, different covers have re-used art! Notice how everyone's favorite cover borrows HEAVILY from the laserdisc:
Image
And I have always thought that the laserdisc cover was one of the best, if not the best, Disney cover ever.

And Disney Duster's posts are never complete without complaints. It's a little disturbing that Maleficent's dragon form has the yellow changed to green on the 4th cover. And Maleficent never used purple fire like on the 2nd cover. Those two instances can be blamed on the green or purple "lighting" of the covers overpowering the natural shades of everything else, but Aurora never had white cuffs at the sleeves like that on the 1st cover.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if Aurora's dress became purple to combine the blue and pink. Technically it is purple for some frames in the movie, each time it changes from pink to blue and vice versa.

Disney Villain, I'm glad these covers please you, I love them, too! And Sleeping Beauty ever grows as one of my favorite films, fighting against The Little Mermaid for second place after Cinderella with me. I appreciate and love it more than I could have in the past. That dream you had is so...freakily cool! It's like magic. In fact, it's even like Aurora who dreamed of her prince and found him! You never saw that book before you had the dream? Anyway, could you please direct me to the link you found that book, or some site telling us more on that book?

I agree with you and I also noticed that the 3rd cover was heavily based on the laserdisc. The second one is also based on the original poster from 1959:

OMGosh you're right! Wow, I didn't realize that! It makes me like it slightly less. Still, there's a lot of original things in it, and the pictures are done so vastly different.

You know, lots of Disney fans on here say they wish the old posters were used as the DVD covers, thoigh they might also like re-drawn versions of those same posters. This is sort of like that! Cool!

By the way,Disney Villain-can you make a Malificent wallpaper? (i wanted a new one,you can make it with shining cliparts? like the Cruela clipart in the Christmas wallpaper or something like the Giselle wallpaper you made? (i loved it by the way) her dragon form has a shining clipart) thanks if you can.
Thank you for the kind words Ariel'sPrince. I will send you a PM about the wallpaper.

Well two weeks ago I had a Dream about Sleeping Beauty. In the dream I found a book relating to the upcoming DVD. When I woke up I decided to do a quick search, and behold I came across this book which features the art from the upcoming cover art of Sleeping Beauty PE. I am so sorry I forgot to post this, I have been very busy.

The characters are actually on model. Aurora is wearing BLUE!!! and has curls. This is going to look wonderful. The purple adds a nice touch. I assume that the actual cover will be an expanded version of this book cover, and feature Maleficent.
Thanks,Disney Villain :D,i"m glad you're making the wallpaper and also you site is wonderfull :D,yes,i whould love that Giselle clipart, thanks again :D and it's okay.
Wow,the book is beautifull  where did you found this? (and if you really dreamed about it-i also dreamed about Disney stuff and most of them came true.
About the covers-
Cover 1-I like that it's focuse on Aurora but the characters look like Enchanted Tales.
Cover 2-very beautifull.
Cover 3-good but the background is very ugly and there's no logo.
Cover 4-Bah.
Cover 5-beautiful exept the double Philip, delete him and it's the perfact cover.
So i"ll choose cover 5 and 2 :D i hope that they won't choose cover 3 becouse the background is ugly and there's no shield like logo :( but if they will add that then it will be perfact :D.

wow, those covers are amazing! i think ill follow the trend and say that cover 3 is my favourite, although im not keen on that shade of green - it needs to be lighter. i love Aurora in the first cover even thugh she is horribly off model, but i do like the fact she's doing something other than sleeping. i like the purple in the filth one but i hate Phillip's composition. not too taken with Maleficent in the first two.

overall the third one's a winner with me!

I like the 3rd one so much!!!!

Finally a cover that does justice to the "class" of the movie instead of that childish crap.

i believe what marky meants its not a cover that only appeals to children and elevates the class of the movie into something exclusive.

Yes, that's what I mean, thank you. ;)

Examples of the childish covers that in no way represent the actual film are the dvd covers of: Bambi, Snowwhite, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, etc.

I hope this will be the start of Disney treating the classics how they were supposed to be.
