I just picked up Curious George and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, curiously enough both distributed by Universal.

Most every DVD I purchase from here on out is going to be a Christmas present for a various family member, so I'm going to have to wait patiently to see them. :(

From Best Buy today I picked up:

Curious George (my grandson loves this movie)

The Notorious Bettie Page

The Bob and Tom Comedy Show on Tour Live

Gotta save some money for next week and the next coming weeks. October is a really big month, but November is even bigger and December looks to be the biggest as far as DVD purchasing goes.

My list to Santa is getting longer, but I will probably save him the trouble on some of the things and get them myself.

I picked up The Lake House and rented Curious George. It's a shame how little love there is for Lake House. I also found it hilarious that at Movie Gallery I got the last copy of Curious George (they only had four or five) and they had an entire wall of Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and no one had picked up a single copy. Can't imagine why. [/sarcasm]

Yesterday:

Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition $12.99

The slipcover, for all you slipcover fanatics out there, is in fine condition. Case/cover art could have been better, was somewhat water damaged. Discs had few smudges, easily wiped off with no harm to them. All the inserts were intact. Got it at the E/B Games near my dentist.

Today:

You've Got Mail
The Nutty Professor
Meet the Fockers
Gone With The Wind (old single-disc flipper)

Got all four for free from a friend. She had excess copies of those titles (some catalog company sent them to her as a gift or something), and she gave me copies of each. Even though I have the 4-disc set for GWTW, I wanted to check out the old transfer to see the difference in video quality and how well the restoration was.

Was looking around in Wal-Mart with my usual intention of not getting anything (their selection almost always sucks), but I picked this one up immediately, without thinking. Been very excited to get this for a long time, found out it was out when I saw it there (was the last copy and I figured, 'what the heck') and just couldn't resist. It also, surprisingly, has a ton of special features on it - more than I've seen on any Lions Gate discs. What seems like at least 70 or more minutes of Featurettes, 2 feature-length audio commentaries, 6 or more Deleted/Extended scenes, the trailer, and bonus trailers. And of course, widescreen. So this really looks like the definitive edition of this movie right now.

I honestly have no idea how I'm going to come up with the money for all the DVD's I want to purchase between now and the end of the year. It's looking like between $75 and $100 every single Tuesday, especially mid-to-late November and December. I think I'm going to have to start working weekends to get the overtime! And I still need to continue saving money for my HDTV and blu-ray player too!

Do not judge me!

I've had a terrible time at work for the past four weeks - absolutely awful. I've even started to get grey hair from the stress (Yes, stress, its nothing to do with old age and I'm not having a mid-life crisis!) So over the past few weeks I've been doing what any member of consumer based society does when he feels depressed - spending money I should save on useless consumer items in order to make me feel momentary better, before spiraling into a deeper depression. Hey, it works for me!

Image
The Dalek Collection R2 PAL
Yes, I already have the two 60's Dalek movies (Anchor Bay's US box, and the Warners UK box) but now I have another. This comes with a shiny slipcover, poster reproduction and set of trading cards ("to start my collection" – however, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to "end" my collection being as they aren't a trading card series as such, just freebies in a DVD case)

Image
She-Ra/He-Man Secret of the Sword R2 PAL
It’s a shame Entertainment Rights got the rights to He-Man and She-Ra back from Contender who previously had the UK rights. I'm missing those joke-filled, sarcastic and genuinely knowledgeable fan commentaries already.

Image
The Godfather R2 PAL
I got this because I just bought the Xbox360 video game (yesterday in fact, its not even been played yet). Plus it was only £3.99.

Image
My Name Is Earl S1 R2 PAL
I said I wasn't going to get this. I can live with or without Earl. I enjoyed it when it was on, but considered that I had other fish to fry. But seeing it on a shop shelf, for only £22.99 – its just to hard to ignore. So I snapped it up.

Image
Green Wing S2 P2 PAL
Yay! The second series of Green Wing! Excellent. This is perhaps THE best comedy show on TV at the moment (or was, they're not making anymore after the Xmas Special) but at least it will go out on a high!

Image
X3 : Two Disc Special Edition R2 PAL
Yes, we get the f-ugly cover. But we also get two discs with hours of additional content. To be honest, I'm not really looking forward to seeing this. Pre-viewing reading over the past few months have put me right off it.

Image
BBC History of World War II 12 Disc Set R1 NTSC
Thanks to the exchange rate these days (its almost 2 dollars to 1 pound) I got this from America for a little over half the price of the cheapest price for the same UK set! Madness when the BBC made them in the first place! In all honestly, I'm probably only interested in about half the content of the set, but its still much cheaper than buying those releases individually.

I also got Maggie's Head Simpsons S8 at last after various emails to and fro.

Matrix: Reloaded
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - 2 Disc SE
The OC: The Complete First Season (blind buy!)

The Little Mermaid: 2-Disc Platinum Edition at Best Buy, with free Flounder plushie (he's so cute, by the way!). $14.99, plus tax, and got some points on the Reward Zone card.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I also picked up the free HBO Bonus DVD that features the first episodes of four different series: Big Love, Rome, Deadwood, and Entourage. They had quite a few of them. There is a sticker that says you get it free with the purchase of any HBO season set (from a selected list). I took it to the register, and it rang up for a penny, and the cashier didn't say anything about not buying an HBO season set. Pretty cool. I've never seen any of these series, so I'm excited to see them!
