Thanks! :)

Well, if this DVD ends up being lame in terms of extras, then it validates the theory I made in a post long ago:

Disney doesn't put any effort in these best selling titles because of the new format. They want to give people a reason to upgrade. In contrast, movies that ended up not being that well received by the public (Aladdin for example) they give them a stellar treatment because people won't buy them in LOTS of quantities again.

Aladdin was not well received? I was under the impression that it was greatly received by critics as well as audiences. But I guess I could be wrong, anyone know for sure.

It is my impression that Aladdin was well received. At that time they had not yet the all-mighty Lion King to stand up to, though.

To put it in short: it was.

I think EGJ is trying to say Aladdin has not had a big a market as the other 3 members of the Fab-Four over the past years, so Disney put more on that DVD than others.

Precisely. This is the post where I shared my ideas:

Re: little mermaid animator

TheSequelofDisney wrote:does anyone know who animated ariel?? I've been wanting to know. Is it Glen Keane? :? :? Please tell me! I'd really like to know. Thanks!
Yes, Glen Keane animated her.

How is The Little Mermaid? Is it fun, or dark and sad like Bambi or The Lion King? No spoilers please. I like the drawings that are in the Disney DVD insider. The characters are bright. Even Ursula is bright. lol Well, sort of. She's purple.

I hope the DVD set will come with a commentary track and making-of features. Yay

I'm following someone's suggestion to watch the animated classics. I bought Lady and the Tramp. Now I am thinking of buying The Little Mermaid.

The Little Mermaid is both fun and dark. There's not a chance in the world you won't enjoy it on some level. It's one of the true Disney classics, not just because it's from a list.

Yeah TLM is a bit of everything... it's both fun and dark (not like Bambi or TLK though), the plot is always evolving, not a boring scene I can recall! I think its biggest strength lies in its music and animation. I just love all the detail they put in the under-water world :)

On the other hand, consider what a huge achievement it would be if they had used today's technology for the sea world. When I compare the sea from "Prince of Egypt" to the sea from the Little Mermaid, I'm going crazy!!! :brick:
That's why I was begging for a TLM3! I hope that they'll do what they have to do!!!

Yes but to me the sea in TLM is much more special because it's a human hand's product and not state-of-art technology that involves about 10% of human hand. There's much more to appreciate in films like TLM, BATB, Aladdin, Pocahontas, etc. They feel like modern-day films in terms of techonlogy, yet they don't look too computerized. I just never fell for the late 90's-early 00's type of films in terms of animation.

The sequels of movies should be like their predecessors. Ariel should look the same as she looked in the first movie. So, the sea should look the same as it looked in the first movie.

Post by brotherbear »

http://disneyvideos.disney.go.com/movie ... 23403.html

Disney has now listed TLM on its upcoming releases! (again, listed as "The Little Mermaid Special Edition".

but here's what it says for special features:

"Under The Sea" Adventure: A Virtual Ride Inspired By Disney Imagineering -- Experience The Theme Park Ride That Was Almost Built; Ride It And Go Behind The Scenes

DisneyPedia: Life Under The Sea -- Learn About The Real-Life Animals That Inspired The Movie Characters

Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes

Exclusive Animated Short, "The Little Match Girl"

Treasures Untold: The Making Of Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID

THE LITTLE MERMAID III Musical Sneak Peek

well, "The Making Of.." now has a name. lol.
And what's with the TLM3 musical Sneak Peek? hmmm.. I'm not sure how different this is from what others expected...i just thought i'd show it to you guys! :P

Oh, and by the way, the cover art posted *is* the one we've been seeing on Amazon, and other places...(you know, the "newly revised" / poster-looking one) So i'm beginning to think that this is the cover art that Disney will use??

WHOA! I was just about to read this when it was its own topic "The Little Mermaid PE now listed on Disney website!" but then it said the topic does not exist and I found it here.

:jawdrop:

I've neglected to read this thread until now and this news is certainly exciting!!!!!!!!!!! I feel dumb now for hopping on this train late, but THANK YOU brotherbear for posting the news you all probably already knew. I thought the virtual ride was another cheesy fluff bonus feature, but on the contrary it sounds INCREDIBLY EXCITING!!

Also, all the other bonus features sound great and I look forward to each one of them! I think they called it TLM3 Musical because, well obviously it will be a musical like the other two and Disney wants to bank on all the crazy kids, tweens, teens, and others who are obsessed with High School Musical. I wonder if there will be a preview for the Broadway show?

I hope there's more but this looks like all. No commentary from the animators and voice talent?! I guess the commentaries are gone for good from the PE's.

Well, at least they keep the non-talented singers doing all the renditions for the platinum Editions.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I finally had time to look at the trailer. It's cute. Ursula doesn't look so scary. lol Ariel and Prince Eric look cute together. I want to see Ariel swiming with Flounder and the other fish. lol

The DisneyPedia: Life Under The Sea feature looks cool.

I wonder what the TLM III musical sneak peak will be? I guess it will be a short musical clip showing characters singing and dancing? Hmm :?

Well, if Disney was thinking like that, they wouldn't have used computer-animation and lighting or shadow effects for sequels like "Return to Neverland","The Jungle Book2", "Cinderella II", "Bambi II" and "Lady and the Tramp II". This stuff could not be used in the originals of course, but now that they were able to do it, they did it. Even in The Little Mermaid II they used more hi-tech effects for the sea, than they could ever use for the original. I don't care if it's not going to look like the original, things should get better, not worse or stuck in the same old stuff.

I won't be satisfied until I see a commentary.
Call me a nit-picker, but I don't care. I was so hyped to hear what the directors have to say about certain scenes or lines, and now all hope is shattered. :( EDIT: Sent a letter of complaint. If any of you can do the same, it would be great! Maybe Disney will then see that there is enough people that listen to these bonus features...

The bonus stuff sounds really cool! I, like many others, are not satisfied because there isn't a commentary! What's with that??????????????? I was really hoping that there would be a commentary, but now, it looks like this won't come ture. Unless, Disney, at the last second, decides that they want to put a fantastic commentary for the movie.
