Re: Frozen: Part V
I'm very glad for the success--crazy that it'll probably cross B&tB adjusted soon--but I almost wonder why this particular film is going so high? Usually when a studio is hitting their high, each movie goes up one after another, but Tangled went up, WIR a little under that, and now this is going skyhigh. Odd. Maybe it doesn't have as much competition as those two or something?
What I love about the movie is that it's female-centered and inclusive without being so politically engineered, in-your-face, or artificial like Brave, for instance. Reminds me of TLM in that regard.
I keep updating that list I made, just for myself since nobody goes back pages.

I remember back in 2010, WAY before I joined the boards, everyone expected Tangled to be as successful as TLK and look what happend.Disney's Divinity wrote:I'm very glad for the success--crazy that it'll probably cross B&tB adjusted soon--but I almost wonder why this particular film is going so high? Frozen to me, feels like a Disney movie that is a great one on it's OWN TERMS that can't be compared to the movies of the "Renaissance" but it's story, song, character, and animation could be comfortable with them, also due to strong word of mouth of why it's great to a great amount of people is another reason why Frozen is more successful than the past 4 Disney films.

Re: Frozen: Part V
I think Frozen's success can be accounted for three reasons:
1. Momentum/Word of Mouth- After Tangled and Wreck It Ralph, the general audience has gained confidence in Disney again in putting out high quality movies. Also, most people basically said they either liked it or completely thought it was fantastic. This movie is one of those cases where word of mouth truly spread.
2. Lack of Competition- Looking at the movies that came out after Frozen, there was really no family movies out there as an alternative. Walking with Dinosaurs did absolutely nothing. Walter Mitty (PG rated) didn't make much of an impact either. I thought Saving Mr. Banks would bring in the families since it's Mary Poppins related, but even that didn't hurt Frozen. Frozen was released at a really good time.
3. The Sister Aspect- Other than Lilo and Stitch, is there any Disney movie that really deals with a Sister relationship story? In fact, we don't really see many movies that address a sister relationship. That is the main appeal of Frozen in my eyes for many people, especially with the third act resolution.

Thank GOD that a revolting, atrocious movie like Walking with Dinosaurs flopped while Frozen is still going sky high.frankf3 wrote:I think Frozen's success can be accounted for three reasons:

I disagree, I mean Hunger Games and Hobbit was pretty big competition; they weren't family movies per say, but you could still take your kids to them. When I went to see Frozen there was a Hobbit screening showing and Hunger Games and alot of parents were taking their kids to see them.frankf3 wrote:

Walking with Dinosaurs could of been a big hit, after all many kids love Dinosaurs. It's still not out in some countries yet, so I wouldn't sneeze on it just yet.

Yeah, but on the other hand many adults don't want to be tortured by bad movies that seem to be aimed at the lowest common denominator.thelittleursula wrote:I disagree, I mean Hunger Games and Hobbit was pretty big competition; they weren't family movies per say, but you could still take your kids to them. Not to mention that WwD's word of mouth has been very weak, so Frozen is the clear family film winner here.

They seem to enjoy the torture that was The Smurf Movies, Ice Age II-IV, Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, Shrek III-IVjazzflower92 wrote: Yeah, but on the other hand many adults don't want to be tortured by bad movies that seem to be aimed at the lowest common denominator.

Re: Frozen: Part V
That's what's so infuriating about parents today, they want a family movie that will keep their kids quiet when they could take them to a better family film that the adults can enjoy as well.thelittleursula wrote:They seem to enjoy the torture that was The Smurf Movies, Ice Age II-IV, Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, Shrek III-IVjazzflower92 wrote: Yeah, but on the other hand many adults don't want to be tortured by bad movies that seem to be aimed at the lowest common denominator.

Re: Frozen: Part V
I personally find dinosaur films boring...After all you know they will die eventually, and the only thing they do in these films is walking and walking and walking...What a snoozefest
Re: Frozen: Part V
This is also going to mark the first time in which a Disney animated film beat Pixar at the domestic box office.
Ever since 1995, Pixar always outdid them commercially (Toy Story vs. Pocahontas, A Bug's Life vs. Mulan, Toy Story 2 vs. Tarzan, and of course no need to break down the 2000's).

Re: Frozen: Part V
dont get me started on how they totally ruined the WWD movie. Im a huge dinosaur fan & i loved the first WWD documentary tv specials, but they had to ruin this movie with that atrocious dialogue. Mind you I only seen the trailer (during my view of Frozen) but I went WTF?! when I saw that gorgeous dinosaur animation marred by those stupid sounding voices. What a waste.
I felt the same way about Disney's Dinosaur too. I liked it & own the dvd, but it could have been so much better without the stupid lemurs.

Wolf of Wall street... that's all I have to say. I've heard of parents taking their kids to it.PatrickvD wrote:Any parent taking their kids to see Catching Fire needs to have their parenting skills examined.

Re: Frozen: Part V
So, I saw Frozen the second time and to be honest, it was better. I said before that it took 2-3 views to see where Frozen stands with the classics, and I have to say: Yeah, it's really up there in the 90s movies. The story and the music are so close to the 90s. But, I did discovered that the script can be way too modern at times, esepecially for Anna and it can be distracting.
But, my parents LOVED it and I don't know if my sisters liked it ("It was fine"). And there wasn't really reactions (The Hans twist had a couple "What?"s and a kid crying
, but laughter. My mom actually whispered to me at the middle of the movie, "You're right, this is good".
