At least the later cleaning scene is justified in that it results in the fight that gives away their hiding place. You're right in that the first part of it should have been cut though, with more time given to either Aurora or Phillip.

You could cut it after Flora says "-of course not, c'mon..." and come back to the faries with Fauna lighting the candles on the drooping cake. The gag based on their failure would still work, but you'd have more time to develop other characters without necessairly making the movie too much longer.

As for which one I'd pick Phillip as he has more to do anyway in the movie than Aurora. Maybe a scene that sets up his adult personality and why he's going into the forest?

They were bland because all the attention was directed for the fairies. The did everything.

That was the same basic problem I had with Cinderella. The leading men and women are like footnotes in their own movies.

It's not just that, but like after Aurora cry like a pansy in her bed room, she didn't speak at all for the rest of the film. It's like they cut her tongue out(Hello Ariel).

Same deal with Phillip.

After he declare he will fuck a peasant girl and tells his father to go screw himself, he hasn't spoken anymore after that.

Like after Malificant taunts him in the dungeon, Phillip didn't say anything but just half ass "charge out" at her.

Instead he could of gone:

Phillip: "You goddamn whore! I'm to going fist you and make you regret you even have an anus!...

I looked up Verna Felton on Wikipedia to look at her roles, and it says she voiced “Queen Leah” in Sleeping Beauty along with Flora. I always thought she voiced the Queen, but I had no idea the Queen had a name. I know this is Wikipedia, so is this just some miscellaneous name people have made up over the years, did it come from some offshoot (like the Disney Princess Enchanted Tales episode with Aurora I've never seen), or did they actually have a name for her? I doubt it came from Maleficent anyway, since the Queen is listed as Leila there.

While I'm on the topic, can I just ask which of these have some truth and which don’t, I’ve forgotten over time:

Prince Ferdinand for Snow White’s prince
Queen Grimhilde for the Evil Queen from Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs
Prince Adam for the Beast from B&tB

I thought the identity of the Queen's voice actress was lost to history so I don't know where Verna Felton came from . Her name too was a mystery, but apparently someone from the Studio said it was always meant to be "Leah".

At the 1938 Oscars, Shirley Temple mentions the name "Ferdinand" among others while presenting Walt Disney his awards. Many have interpreted that she was referring to the Prince, saying that Ferdinand is his name. However, she was not referring to the Prince, but rather to Ferdinand the Bull. As confirmed by Dave Smith, Historian of the Walt Disney Studio Archives, the Prince was never given a name in the film and "Ferdinand" has never been used as one by the company. Despite this, many Disney fans still believe that the Prince's name is Ferdinand.

Disney Latino revealed through a video of Top 10 Romantic Moments the name of the prince is "Fernando" Spanish translation of the name Ferdinand.

Disney France once revealed in a TV-spot that his real name is Florian. That same TV-spot also revealed that Prince Charming's real name is Henry (or "Henri," as it would be in French).

The name "Florian" was allegedly used by Disney when they started the Disney Princess franchise.

There's a story that there are artwork and documents in the Walt Disney Studio Archives that call the Prince "Frederick".

Queen Grimhilde - again, the Disney Wiki states that her name "was given as Queen Grimhilde in some old publicity material and comics, but the Walt Disney company does not seem to acknowledge it as canon anymore." IIRC, Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen prequel book doesn't mention her name either.

Prince Adam:

It is stated in products licensed by Disney (such as the 1998 video game The D Show which was developed by Cyberflix) that Adam is the Prince's name. However, it is not his name, as it has been stated in the directors' commentary included in the Beauty and the Beast DVDs and Blu-ray as well as the Disney.com FAQ and D23.com that the character has never had an actual name; he is only referred to as "The Beast" or "the Prince". It was mentioned the writers and producers were so busy that they forgot to give him a name. In an interview with Glen Keane, Keane admitted that the Beast never had an alternative name prior to the film's events.

Regardless, the name Adam is still used, occasionally, in the Disney Prince/Disney Princess merchandise as the name has gone completely viral.

However, it's possible that some animators and crew members did refer to The Prince as 'Adam' during production, as Paige O'Hara, the voice actress to Belle, recently confirmed it during a fan Q&A while adding "Disney will always deny it." However, it's unknown if the name given to the character during production on the original film or during production on one of the film's sequel projects.

So basically, none of them are truly official.

The Queen's name was almost completely undoubtedly Leah during the official work of Walt Disney and his workers.

The full novelization, not junior novelization, that came with beautiful full color illustrations, had the author give the name Leah to the Queen. Whether she made it up or actually got it from canon stuff done by Walt Disney and his workers is unknown.

That is as official as it gets, as far as I know.

I know this isn't exactly adding to the discussion and the Sleeping Beauty Diamond thread would have been more appropriate but I'd appreciate an opinion.

Does anyone here own the 2008 edition and the Diamond Edition? I have too many copies of Sleeping Beauty already but I am beginning to get that itch - that nagging feeling to buy the Diamond edition. Is it worth it if I already own the 2003 and 2008 editions? Will I just be wasting money? If you do own both do you regret it/do you not? When does it go out of print as that will also help me make up my mind. Thanks.

I still only have the Platinum Edition and am still trying to decide whether or not to get the Diamond, so I can't be of too much help, but I think the Blu-ray.com review could be helpful, as the reviewer does make comparisons to the previous version:

Basically, he seems to think that it isn't worth getting for most people. But I think you can make a pretty educated decision based on his review. (I still might get it though, lol.) And if you are into Digital Copies, that could also sway you to get this version.

As for when it goes out of print, we can never say for sure, but you probably have until at least April 2016 to decide, as April is usually when the vaulting occurs.

The first is how in the first song, the royal subjects sing, "Health to the princess Aurora", and then that very princess gets cursed to die! The second is how when the fairies discuss how they will live as mortals, Merryweather asks, "Who will wash, and cook?" and Flora says, "We'll all pitch in." Then when planning for Briar Rose's birthday party, Merryweather says, "But you can't sew, and she's never cooked." Merryweather did like all of the work!

I never noticed how ironic that line is in the opening song. Thanks for pointing it out! What always stood out more to me is how warm and receiving the kingdom is to Aurora, compared to The Swan Princess, in which the opening song shows that the kingdom doesn't really care who Odette marries. They just want a wedding so they can get a holiday and lower taxes!

I think the assumption is that Flora did the cooking while Fauna did the sewing. Maybe Merryweather also did one of these things or did one of them exclusively. Either way, Flora never did sewing before Aurora's 16th birthday just as Fauna never did the cooking before. Knowing how Merryweather is treated by Flora, she probably did have to do more than the others though.
