I think it could be VERY damaging to Disney if a low-budget production like Planes would outgross PIXAR and WDAS. They're probably also closely watching the changes at DWA. Lots of lay-off coming up over there.Sotiris wrote:It's certainly a possibility. Both Cars films have set the bar really low.PatrickvD wrote:If this is true, it's pretty embarrassing for PIXAR if Planes is better than both Cars films.
Do you think it could be damaging for Pixar or WDAS if Planes was a huge financial success?
Considering that Planes was done on a very small budget and all of the animation was outsourced to India, its success could prompt Disney management to reduce the budget of WDAS or Pixar's films by outsourcing animation for their films as well.

I thought Planes was mostly animated at DisneyToon Studios in Burbank? If most of it really was animated in India, I wonder how many animators in Australia are wondering why the heck they had to close their studio, then.
Anyway, I don't think Planes will outgross Monsters University and Frozen. Cars 2 wasn't a hugely popular film and I get the feeling this spin-off will make less than that one.

No, all of the Tinker Bell and Planes films were animated at Prana Studios in Mumbai.estefan wrote:I thought Planes was mostly animated at DisneyToon Studios in Burbank?
Interesting. Did not know that. Looking at what they've worked on, their animators do some impressive work.
Although if they were going to outsource the Tinker Bell films anyway, why close the Australian studio?

"Disney is preparing for the youngest audience members of Planes to continue the adventures of Dusty Crophopper at home. At the 110th annual American International Toy Fair last week, attendees caught a sneak peek at the much-hyped remote-controlled Dusty as well as the U-Command Dusty, as documented by Stitch Kingdom. On Twitter, DaDa Rocks! posted a pic of a Planes tent kids can use for indoor fun. Brookite shows Disney is updating classic foam flyers to promote the film, while Simon & Schuster’s online catalogue reveals a Dusty Saves the Day storybook with projector. Meanwhile, Take 5 A Day continues their extensive coverage of Planes by showcasing the initial line of die-cast collectibles, inadvertently revealing characters and plot info from the film.
Speaking of plot info, a new, possibly spoiler-ish image at Iovadoalcinema.it could reveal a main character’s makeover for the film’s big race."

I havn't really read about this movie, nor all the stuff in this thread but how cool would it be if Planes had cameos of Cars characters!?
Other than that this movie looks pretty dull to me, even more so than Cars, which to me is Pixar's absolute worst attempt (I haven't seen Cars 2, and I haven't seen Brave yet).

Well, according to Screen Crush, Disney removed this trailer and "revealed that it played last year at the D23 Expo".PatrickvD wrote:Not too surprised. I don't think the trailer showed us whether it would come to DVD or theaters...or a release date. It was a bit weird.

This looks bland and pointless. I think I might pass on this one
At least we haven't seen a Pixar movie where modes of transportation race...
