What a dissapointment! I'd much rather have Lilo & Stitch. I didnt' pick up the Collector's Edition of Tarzan, but A Special Edition seems a little redundant right now. I think Disney is begining to second guess the profitability of their older titles that are not Platinums. I like Tarzan, but there's a lot of older movies that could have been equally welcome.

What I don't get is the point of making an entirely new DVD set for this movie when other movies need it more. I'm happy and everything, but Tarzan already had a spectacular DVD release with some of the best picture and sound quality, not to mention a great deal of bonus features. Maybe they're trying to pull a PIXAR and make an already good DVD into a better one. I'm not saying I don't like this idea, but I would have prefered and Lilo & Stitch, Hunchback, or Hercules special edition at this time.

They're obviously not going to be puting a whole lot of time into this one; simmilar to the A BUG'S LIFE Collector's Edition reissue in 2003, it will probably contain a few new games or something and otherwise be a straight port-over of the CE. Which is fine.

The point of the reissue is to make the movie available again for those who didn't get it last time. I appriciate this because I never got Tarzan, though I do think it's a bit strange that there's been no movement on the Lilo & Stitch front. At this point, I'll believe we're going to get that DVD when I have it in my hands.

Then why not just re-release the Collector's Edition? Sure, Disney could slap a few more games and a music video on the reissue and call it "new", but it would save movey just to release the CE again. I'm sure the same amount of people would buy it. I don't really understand Disney's logic on this one.

Packaging. I think for the SE they'll make it the standard 2-disc packaging we see today (i.e.: The Incredibles). I don't understand Disney's logic either with a re-release and no mention of Lilo and Stitch. Freakin Disney. I sold my 1-Disc L&S for the 2-Disc and now it's not coming out soon...

Maybe Disney saw that people bought Tarzan II and thought, "Hey, I bet we could get more money if we re-released Tarzan!"

This is excellent news if it's true! I hope if it does come out it gets all the old DVD features the collector''s edition had. As for Lilo and Sitch, I find that movie a bit overrated. It's a good movie, but Tarzan is better!

This is the best news I've heard all day. Tarzan CE was one of the dvds I lost in Hurricane Charley that I was not able to replace. It was oop & it was totally blown away which meant I couldn't get it replaced with the Disney replacement plan as I did so many water damaged ones. I sure hope this doesn't come at a loss of the Lilo & Stitch SE though as I sold my one disc original long ago and have been waiting patiently during all of the delays for it to finally see the light of day.

They ARE esstianally re-releasing the Collector's Edition. The only difference, now, is that the artwork and packaging will match the rest of Disney's 2-disc SE's far better than the CE does, hence why they renamed it "Special Edition" as opposed to "Collector's Edition." It basically will be the same release. Any new kiddie features they create will basically be made for the people used to the types of features on current Disney SE's. I guess they feel the simplistic trivia game and storybook from the old release really wouldn't wash over with current DVD buyers accustomed to the flashy CGI games on other releases, so they'll undoubtedly be creating new stuff. I also expect the menus will be changed for the same reason. Otherwise, the meaty content will remain the same (perhaps even improved with a "Play All" feature).

I hope there is a strong possibility tha this special edition gets a 5.1 surround sound track. I'm sure this movie has plenty of moments where it could give my sub a real worout.

I just bought Tarzan: CE this year and now a special edition is coming out. NO WAY I thought Lilo and Stitch: SE would maybe Lilo and Stitch might be a ME (Masterpiece Edition).

Well RJKD23 Tarzan 2 was number 2 last week only Hitch beat it. :D

RJKD23 why did you sell your single disc of Lilo and Stitch? You should have kept it.

Hey Luke why isn't the news about Tarzan on the front page.

Ok, I think I know what Disney is doing......They are smart if this TARZAN SE is true, and coming in OCT. After they release Lilo and STITCH 2 on DVD, wait 4 months for the LILO and STITCH SE to come out!!! Sometimes you have to take a step back to move 3 steps foward....meaning bring out the squeal that no-one has ever saw on DVD (Disney fans will buy, so will all the mothers who have kids), and come back with and all new "SE DVD" of the 1st DVD!!! So SMART!!!!!!!!

I though the 5.0 mix on the previous DVD was pretty good, and it actually gave my subwoofer a nice workout.

As it has already been said, what worries me about Disney releasing Tarzan at this time of the year is the fact that there hasn't been a single word about "Lilo & Stitch". With Cinderella, Tarzan, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 already schedule to come out 'till the end of the year, it is highly doubtful that Disney is going to release a high-profile title like "Lilo & Stitch" among all the other big releases. The region 1 edition of this DVD has already become legendary...

Because a 2 disc is coming out... There are only some movies that I'll double (meaning keeping 1 disc and the 2 disc), but I'd rather have a 2-Disc L&S.

There really is no point in keeping the 1 disc edition since the 2 disc set's first disc is almost identical (if not superior).

There has already been a Collector's Edition of Tarzan released in R1, but they're making a new special edition probably to promote Tarzan II, which has already been released. They probably think that if a sequel is released, the original will sell more.

Wow! Not a bad guess. its not unusual for a 2-Disc-er to be released in Winter. Wasn't Alice released in that time period(December-February)?

if these are true, we'll have a 2-disc SE packed year

March 1, 2005- Bambi: 2-Disc Platinum Edition
May 3, 2005- Pocahontas: 2-Disc 10th Anniversary Edition
September 6, 2005- Toy Story: 2-Disc 10th Anniversary Edition
October 4, 2005- Cinderella: 2-Disc Platinum Edition
October 18, 2005- Tarzan: 2-Disc Special Edition
December 26, 2005- Toy Story 2: 2-Disc Special Edition
Sometime- Lilo & Stitch: 2-Disc Special Edition
PLUS Song of the South and all the Treasures from Wave 5!!

WoW! Disney likes the 2-Discs!

^And don't forget a possible live-action 2-Discer (Song of the South? Maybe that's why we haven't heard any announcement... they want to keep it quiet? I don't know, I've always said it would make more sense for them to make a big hoop-lah about it, but who knows).... and the Treasures technically 2-Discers too.

I'd rather have Lilo & Stitch as well, but as I don't have Tarzan yet either, and they are both inevitably coming at one point or another, I won't make a big fuss as long as one of them is coming soon and the other doesn't take too long to follow.

Wow! Took the words right out of my mouth! Ditto to what Aaron said. I'd like both, but they'll both be here eventually so I won't get too upset.
