It seems like an idea that could work, but it probably won't. The tile of the film just describes what goes on. If it's called National Treasure 2 than they have to be searching for a treasure or the title doesn't fit. It's like having a Sleeping Beauty 2, there's really no choice but to copy the original because she has to sleep to fit the title. That's why a film like The Little Mermaid 2 is such a dissapointing copy of the original because it could have gone to such other stories.

Why? To be honest sometimes that's half the fun! :D I disagree that every movie should have underlying messages and such, sometimes all that's needed is pure fun (ala, Pirates of the Caribbean).
Like I've said before, I need something more out of films that razzle dazzle. I'm not imposing that on anyone else, I'm just explaining why I didn't like National Treasure and Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

All I was trying to say was, didn't you ever want to see movie just for fun? Just to wipe your mind of thoughts for 2 hours?

I think Jerry Bruckheimer is better off just making the Pirates sequels.
If there are too many plot holes... then it really wasn't a well-written film.

I for one enjoyed National Treasure a lot... but then again, I love Indiana Jones. For a treasure they could search for could be the Holy Grail... Atlantis... or some made-up lost treasure. As long as there is a great plot, adventure, and the main actors return, I'll be more than happy.

A lot of NT's treasure search sprung from back stories involving pre-existing conspiracy theories. There are a lot of related theories that could inspire a new treasure hunt that involves the Masonic lodge, the Illuminati, the Knights Templar, the Merovingian dynasty, etc.

I do love the first film, it's so silly and action packed and stuff. I like Bruckheimer films. What I don't like is the way Brukheimer takes himself really seriously... he shouldn't do that :P

National Treasure Sequel?

Post by Marianne81 »

I read a while back that this was in the works. Does anyone know any info about this? I loved National Treasure and would most likley enjoy a sequel, but only if 1) It's a good story and 2) They get the same cast back, namely Nicholas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, etc.
There's a page for it on IMDB.com, but not really much info.

All I can say is...YES, PLEASE!!! I loved the first one and would most likely love a second one!! More Riley!! He was hilarious!!

Also...Jerry Bruckheimer would need to produce it.

Wouldn't mind seeing a second one. Disney could easily make this their own Indy Jones-esque series of films. And I agree, they definitely should keep the same cast (Nicholas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight). They just need to find the right story for the sequel that isn't a retread of the first, but a wholly new adventure in itself. Perhaps something in South America with some old Aztec temples, or a European adventure jumping from country to country. It can even be called "International Treasure", lol.

I heartily agree. Also, if they do make a sequel, I do hope they title it something totally different (like Desperado's sequel was called Once Upon A Time In Mexico) or National Treasure II (not 2) with a subtitle (i.e. National Treasure II: Journey To The Past).

Jerry Bruckheimer should just stick the Pirates sequels IMO.

I mean it would just be too repetitive of the original. They go hunt another treasure lost for 1000's of years.

I agree that Bruckheimer would have better luck just sticking to the Pirates sequels, but if they ARE going to have a NT sequel, it would be nice for him to be involved. If he hadn't been involved in the first one, I don't think it would have been as well-recieved.

On IMDB it looks like Nicolas Cage is pre-producing National Treasure 2 for (2007) as Ben Gates.

Yay!!!! At least this film will get a sequel....or

Looks like production begins this fall.

Much of that is user-submitted data, so I wouldn't get too excited.

However, if the POTC sequels do well, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a National Treasure follow up.

The film is a LOT of fun, and it certainly lends itself to being a franchise. That's not to say that the ending had a set up for a sequel - it felt kind of complete to me - but the 'relic hunter'/Indiana Jones concept certainly has a lot of potential in it. I'd definitely be up for another round of artifact finding with Nicholas Cage!

Scarily, I reckon that is just the kind of path they'd be tempted ot go down.

Personally, I'm not a fan of 'the kid' in movie sequels. The Mummy 2 had lots of problems, and adding a kid with a cutesy accent wasn't helping any. However, with the huge amounts of money that Gates now has, what motivation would he have to seek furtrher riches? He'd be pretty content to settle for the easy life, especially given that his family's legacy is now fulfilled. Of course, he is a born adventurer, and action always waits around the corner... :)

And you just answered your own question, lol.

As for "the kid", the only one that seemed tolerable to me was Short Round from Indy Jones 2 (which is actually my favorite of the 3). Sure, the kid is a pain for the adults to watch, but for *actual kids*, they see it as "Hey, he got to hang out with Indiana Jones! I wish I were in his shoes!"

Though of course, if there were to be a kid in National Treasure II by 2007, he'd only be what...3 years old? Unless they decided to age him, I don't see him as much of a threat to the story...

I'd personally rather not see a "family of archaeologists save the world" story for National Treasure. Perhaps they could have the series of movies continually have historical ties. I read at the IMDB boards an idea for the lost colony of Roanoke. I would love to see that idea for a sequel.

I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't happen.

Remember in the Indiana Jones franchise, he just gets a new girl in each installment!

I guess it could work, however, like I said, it would have to do nothing but repeat the original too much.

But hey, Jerry Bruckheimer has done worse. Kangaroo Jack and Pearl Harbor anyone?
