I've got a feeling George Lucas will release the original versions in a few years. He has to have noticed all the negative reactions he got from the "Han shoots first, not Greedo" people. It's actually a brilliant money-making technique.
First, release the movies with the changes so that fans will buy them and complain about not having the theatrical versions.
Next, release the movies with no changes so that fans will buy them and then complain about not having the updated versions included.
Finally, release both versions of the trilogy in a single set so that fans who want easy access to both will buy them and finally be happy.
I'm not saying it's what he should do, but he would make three times more than if he had just released both versions in the first place. For the record, I like the newer versions better, but the theatrical versions should be kept around for future generations to see how special effects were in the late 70's-early 80's.
Oh, and for those of you who were wondering why Hayden Christensen is Anakin's ghost in the revised versions, George Lucas said in the commentary that when Anakin went to the Dark Side, that's when he technically died. So that's why Hayden's ghost appears younger next to Obi-Wan and Yoda, because that's how he looked when he "died". A strange reason to change the movie, but a change nonetheless.
