Disneyland turns 50
GOOD MORNING: Sleeping Beauty's Castle at Disneyland will undergo a golden transformation between the hours of 10 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday. That's when Julie Andrews, worldwide ambassador for the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, will push a button launching the 50th anniversary global celebration of Disneyland. Bob Iger makes the opening remarks followed by Art Linkletter, who was on hand for the opening 50 years ago. Following will be live feeds from the parks in Japan, Hong Kong and Paris (with Gerard Depardieu) and Wayne Brady from Disneyworld in Florida and Kermit the Frog from the Disney cruise ship. Next, Michael Eisner welcomes and intros Andrews. I spoke with Julie about her relationship with Walt which dated back to her stand in "Camelot" on B'way in 1961. He came backstage and offered her the role in "Mary Poppins." "But I'm pregnant," she said. "We'll wait," Walt told her. And the rest is history. She says, "Who knew this visionary man with pixie dust in his pocket and a sparkle in his eye would change the life of this then 27-year-old forever more." But she didn't work for Disney again for 40 years -- in "The Princess Diaries." Julie did an extra on-camera stint for Disney in the two-disc "Mary Poppins" DVD in which she filmed the P.L. Travers short, "The Cat That Looked at a King." The success of this DVD has resulted in Julie doing a ditto double DVD , this one for Fox on "Sound of Music's " 40th anni with a scene to be shot with Christopher Plummer and children ... Amazon is now saying the following:-
"Availability: Release date to be announced: The release date for this video has not been finalized. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives."
It has also gone to the default release date of: January 1, 2010
Hmmm... so would it appear this DVD is not being released on July 12 anymore ?

I've been looking into that issue over the last couple of days, Tony. Don't have a definite answer right now. It's still in Disney's retail system but has been oddly removed from the Disneyvideos.com website, without actually being removed. Hoping to have an answer by the middle of the week, and I'm hoping it's not a bad one. After all, it'd make little sense not to release this Disneyland 50th Anniversary Edition the year of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary!

Hmm. It seems very odd to cancel this, and I just may be devastated if they do. C'mon, Disney! Unless it results in an even better DVD, I want it this summer!

Good news on the front page! BVHE Publicity says it's still coming. I don't really understand why there's so much discrepency, though, if that's the case. Hopefully it's just a communication problem or technical glitch or something, and BVHE Publicity is correct. It wouldn't make much sense to not put this out this summer.

Yep. 7/17/05 will be the actual 50th anniversary of the grand opening. It opened to the public the next day, on 7/18/55, but the latter date isn't really recognized.ohmahaaha wrote:I really can't imagine them NOT releasing it as scheduled, since that's around the date of the actual anniversary of Disneyland's opening, isn't it?
