Well, Sega had the Saturn, which I still think was a criminally underrated system. Of course, it helps that I preferred (and still do) sprite based games over polygons, but the Saturn had some games that were incredible - all of Capcom's titles spring to mind, plus VF2 which did walk all over the PS1 Tekken games, both for graphics and gameplay.Lightyear wrote:And I think the only reason the PS1 really took off was it's format at the time.. If a person bought a Dreamcast, they could play excellent games while waiting for the PS2 launch, and then they could play better games for about another year while everybody waited for an actual decent PS2 game to be released which actually used more than a quarter of the consoles potential.
I still play my Capcom fighters on my Dreamcast today. I often wonder why everybody who is so critical of Disney stopping handdrawn animation have no complaints about the death of spritebased games on modern consoles.
