I have a very strong negative feeling towards rap, the only type of music I find as an insult to the intelligence of human beings (that I can think of). Where's the melody? Where's the art in it? That's all I'm going to say.
I have to point out that Amyescence is my absolute favorite band.

Also, as far as rap goes...There is more to rap that just what's on the radio.

Try:
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Black Star (which is just Mos and Talib together :p)
The Roots
Black Eyed Peas

and then maybe you'll feel differently. Well, at least differently enough not to generalize it so much.

Amyescence... I'm wondering what <strike>their</strike> her new album will sound like since Ben left.

Please don't add BEP to that group. While their first two albums were good, once they added the white girl [and gained more fame for doing it], they've become no better than P.Diddy and the rest of that "bling, bling" crap...

Oh, and i'd have to agree with DaveWadding. Em's "I hate my mom/Kim/current popular POP star" act is getting tired. And 50 wouldn't be anything without him and Dre pimpin' him.

Where Is The Love? is the best song to hit mainstream in a long time that wasn't bling bling bullhonky garbage. Therefore, I'm not really ready to classify them as not in that group yet..but they are drifting that way, I will say. Kind of Purgatory maybe...

I stand by my original statement about Em and 50 though. Em is spotty at best since MMLP (I think I've like maybe 6 songs since) and 50 only gets pub cause he likes his beef, and Dre is the mastermind and can get anyone over as a great artist.

Rock and just about every derivative thereof.

Radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins, Blonde Redhead, Sonic Youth, etc.--they are all my drug.
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

The better question would be what don't I listen to, so I didn't vote. The answer would be hardcore punk and hardcore rap (though I do like the poppier stuff of both of these). I love pretty much everything else- pop, country (oldschool and newschool, but mostly mid-school), jazz (although post-80s jazz hasn't been nearly as good and I'm not as in to the contemporary sound or free jazz... I like most other forms, though, especially big band/swing and vocal standards), oldies (every decade is great), gospel, Contemporary Christian Music (although ever since the late 90s it's sucked, but that's started to change with Switchfoot, Mercy Me, and Amy Grant's reemergence in the genre), disco, dance, showtunes, rock, a little techno (I've only dabbled), adult contemporary, r&b (though there's a lot of this that I don't really care for), etc. On any given day, I can listen to songs from all these genres. I'm a big music fan. On the whole, I prefer upbeat music, but there are a lot of great ballads out there.

I voted for other, because my favorite kinds of music are not really on that list.

I'm into ambient techno, indie, riot-grrrl, '80s pop/rock, a little alternative, a little folk, a teeny bit of pop, some classic oldies (mostly soul, funk, groove, and R&B), and some flat-out rock.

Some of my favorite albums:

1. Imani Coppola - Chupacabra / 2. Hooverphonic - New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular
3. Joan Osborne - Relish / 4. Carl Craig - More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art
5. Madonna - Erotica / 6. Bis - Return to Central
7. Bratmobile - Ladies, Women and Girls / 8. Imperial Teen - Seasick

Ughhh....no offence Dan. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but a man who sings lyrics such as:

"I'll take you to the candy shop.
I'll let you lick the lollipop.
Go head' girl don't you stop,
keep goin' til' you hit the spot, woah!"

and then calls it not blatantly sexual, should be b&#*& slapped "50" times in the face.

Sorry if my statements offend...

Ah well that's good it's not the annoying M from the 70's. :) I don't think that M needs more fans.
