What is the point of watching that when you have the original? :o

Ummm...isn't that still a remake? Plus, there's no point in remaking another film if you're not going to bring something to the table yourself (like the Psycho remake).

Sounds pretty lame to me. If you're using the vocals from the MGM movie, why not watch the actual MGM movie?

There was actually a brief TV cartoon series based on the MGM movie (I've got 4 episodes of it).

I remeber that cartoon series too, but it was aired when I was 4 or 7 years old. Then there's The lion and the badge of courage which I thought was a good background story of Lion and I guess it did kinda lean towards the Wizard's story bout him being a Kanas man and flew to OZ by accident in his hot air ballon. Personaly if I was making Wizard of OZ as animated feature, I would cast people who might match the personality and the strength of the characters, and I would make the characters fully believeable cause Uncle Walt said "Without personality the character can not be believed"

Another idea that I had that instead of creating the characters, and this just a fun joke, I would have Cruella De Vil as the Wicked Witch, Fairy GodMother as Glinda, Belle, Snow White or Alice as Dorthey, Adult Simba, or create a different lion for Lion, Owl as the Wizard, cast all Disney Villain's Henchmen as Wicked Witch's henchmen (delete the Winkies and the flying monkeys), Goofy, Gidon, or Ichabod Crane as Scarecrow, Mr. Toad as the guard, Various Disney characters as citizens of OZ and Munchkinland, Kuzo, Judge Doom (Toon Verison) or Pinocchio as Tinman. Also give the Wicked Witch and Wizard memorable names too.

There's clip of Chuck Jones's OZ on the special editon dvd as a bonus feature, and I like the style and some of the voices were close to the oringal except for Tinman.

 Lol since when have the muppets done any movie that was semi normal they are always funny. I am actually looking forward to seeing this movie the muppets havent done anything in a while the movie seems to bring the prmoise of being very entertaining. :D

I have a video tape of the Muppets in "Hey Cinderella" that my grandparents gave me when I was four, and I still enjoy watching it! Looking forward to their spin on "OZ".

There's been numerous spin on the beloved tale, Judy Garland and her friends shuned films like: Snow White, Gone with the Wind (even though it won best picture) and many other films too, so if Walt tried to approach Wizard of OZ with his unqiue, fun, zany style of Disney magic, he would've had a golden classic in the Disney Cannon. Personaly.... Esiner would've jumped at the idea of presenting Wizard of Oz if he had the brains to walk in Walt's surpeme Production room where they labeled the films by their titles: Song of the South, Peter Pan, and Snow White, etc.

I have come to the conclusion with Eisner if it is not his idea it usaully means its a good idea and since it is not his he wont use it, but thats a different story. But I could not agree with you more Disney could so have this story in the bag. It would be so nice for them to try and revist fariytale stories again but all we can do is wait. :)

This is a cool idea (I'm seeing it as sort of a Mickey's Christmas Carol type casting job), but seems very similar to Muppet Wizard of Oz.

Thank you Dreamer, course there's one problem with adapting Wizard of OZ to Disney magic cause it's so dark, mysterious and especialy moody.

How about approaching it as a prequel to "Return to Oz", as opposed to an adaption of the books?

Or, since Fariuza Baulk (sp?) is far too old to play Dorothy, adapt one of the later novels into a film, starring ?Besty Bottom? or that other girl...I forget her name.

Dakota Fanning would make a good Dorothy I would think. She's the right age for it. She's 10 I think.

Not looking forward to the Muppets version of Oz!

Post by Deco King »

I think that the original Denslow illustrations from the Frank Baum Wizard of Oz books would look great turned into animated versions.

However, I absolutely hate the idea of The Muppets doing a The Wizard Of Oz movie. I like the Muppets in the context of their TV show, but not in a version of a classic tale! :(

The trouble is, the original movie from MGM is such a tough act to follow, it would have to be something to beat or even to equal that iconic classic!

Hope Universal will make Wicked into a movie before too long! It's a really great production, and made a memorable highlight in my 50th Birthday trip to New York this January!

I've been resisting the urge to bring up Wicked in this thread-glad you did! It would make an incredible film (even though I've yet to see it), as long as they keep J.Lo. and Britney Spears far from it!

Oh I am sure there is a way to work around that , there always seems to be. I am sure if the right person was working on it it could turn out great. :)

Considering Return to Oz is a sequel to the book, approaching Wizard of Oz as a book adaptation would accomplish the same thing as a prequel. Plus, since Return to Oz isn't that well-known, I doubt Disney would try to market it from the angle of a Return to Oz prequel.
Mason_Ireton wrote:...course there's one problem with adapting Wizard of OZ to Disney magic cause it's so dark, mysterious and especialy moody.
Well, if they made Hunchback of Notre Dame into a Disney film (and excellently, at that), I don't think Oz would be a problem. It's not as dark as, say, Black Cauldron, so it should find some wide appeal.
