Jake Lipson wrote:Guys, I'm not saying this isn't a good idea, but bear in mind that the OAR for Cinderella is 1.33:1 (Academy ratio and modern fullscreen.) So it would have to be severely cropped to at least 1.78:1, if not 1.85:1, for theatrical exibition. In which case there'd be more picture if you just stayed home and gave the VHS one last run in the player before the DVD release.

Why pay $6 to go see a movie in theaters that you have on video if you know you'll be getting less out of the $6 than if you watch the tape or laserdisc? If it was something like Aladdin or Lion King, then, absolutely go, but...Cinderella? Yeah, it's restored, but I'll get the restoration on DVD in a few months, and I dunno if I'd see want to see a matted fake-widescreen (like King of Thieves) version.
Jake, they could always windowbox Cinderella. I know they did that with Boundin' before The Incredibles.

don't worry. cinderella won't be shown in a "matted fake-widescreen" version. I don't know about the US, but they regularly show old movies in french theatres and they never do such a thing. I went to see the wizard of oz last summer and it was in the original aspect ratio.

as for releasing the movie in theaters, I wouldn't be surprised. old disney movies usually have run more times in cinemas in france than in the us. cinderella is a beloved film here. and Disney France like to get noticed using different marketing strategies.

Another reason for us to hate the French! ;)

Right, that's it! I'm moving to France and learning to speak the lingo!

I want a UK theatrical Cinderella release!

Oh! Oh! Oh! I hope Cinderella will still be playing in mid/late August; I'm off to the land of wine and cheese this summer and my ability to understand the French language may be of some use to me! :P

I'm so glad ! :)
They'll show the restored version in theaters, which means the same that'll be on DVD 3 months later in October.

Do you think that this theater rerelease will boost the DVD sales ? I'd rather say the oposite that's why, even if I'm glad it happens, I'm also skeptical.

I mean, here in France, Disney hasn't rerelease a old classic in theaters since the DVD era began 5-6 years ago (even older, the last rerelease I remember is Lady and the Tramp and The Little Mermaid in 1998). So it's weird they're doing it again now.

Anyway, I'll go and see it in theater and then buy the DVD :D
Chandler (to Phoebe, over the phone) : Listen, Joey isn't gonna be here tonight so why don't you come over and I'll let you uh.. feel my bicep; or maybe more...

The French are so lucky!

Question about the poster: What are those chunks of things flying off of her?

I saw it on the big screen in the 80s one of the worst movie experences I have ever been too because we got stuck in the front row with our heads tilted up most of the time ,ending with our eyes watering from the strain.
