The song will be integrated into the scene like "Morning Report" and "Human Again" was, as will the "If I Never Knew You" reprise.
There will also be the original theatrical film version on the same disc for purists and/or people who just don't wanna watch the new scenes.

Pocahontas
Actually I don't own Pocahontas at all. Not even on vhs. My sisters have a vhs copy but it's like 10 years old which I borrow it from them from time to time. There is I believe a Gold Collection Pocahontas on dvd. I didn't bother buying it because I kept waiting for the Special Edition to be released on to dvd. It is worth the wait.

In case anyone was skeptical of assuming we'll get two cuts plus the international bonus material, here are some notes direct from Disney:
Very excited about this one. Its extras sound really terrific, even if many are taken directly from the laserdisc. All the music, adventure, and colorful fun of Disney's POCAHONTAS come to life like never before in the 10th Anniversary Edition 2-Disc Set. Bursting with all the "Colors Of The Wind," POCAHONTAS tells the story of a free-spirited girl who wonders what adventures await "Just Around The Riverbend." Pocahontas -- along with her playful pals Meeko and Flit -- relies on the guidance of her loving and wise Grandmother Willow when English settlers arrive on the shores of their village. Her chance meeting with the courageous Captain John Smith leads to a beautiful friendship that bridges the gap between two cultures, and changes history. Now fully restored, POCAHONTAS includes the song "If I Never Knew You," and never-before-seen animation seamlessly integrated into the original film. This 2-Disc 10th Anniversary Edition is loaded with spectacular bonus features, all-new games, and soaring Academy Award(R)-winning music (1995 Best Original Musical Score, Best Original Song, "Colors Of The Wind"). Disney's POCAHONTAS is a fun-filled adventure your whole family will enjoy.

Last time I saw this in its entirety was...hmm...i think...no...wait....did I ever see the whole thing????? I recall seeing bits and pieces when Jane McCoy was in the hospital, at my cousin's house, on tv, at my US History class...wow, I haven't seen this in a looooooong time! Now the DVD will be like watching it for the first time almost!
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to this DVD a lot! Probably more than the Bambi Platinum, but then not more then Mulan II which I've been waiting for since 2002ish!
I don't mean to be cynical, but is it really necessary to say the new scene is seamlessly integrated into the film? I mean, shouldn't we be expecting it to?2 Versions Of The Film: 10th Anniverary Edition Features "If I Never Knew You," Performed by Mel Gibson Seamlessly Integrated Into The Film; Original Theatrical Release
Overall, I'm ready for Pocahontas!
*Nifty story that I just remembered. We were at some 2nd or 3rd or 4th cousin's birthday party in 1996ish and she had an unliscensed "Cynderella" come and play with the kids. She came in full blue gown, played games with a Gus plush, played a tape recording of the movie, and did Disney face and hand painting. Anyhow, me and Jane and Escapay went to get our hands painted. (In case you were wondering, here comes the Pocahontas connection, lol) Jane got a Flit and I got a Meeko on our hands and "Cynderella" was happy and put sparkles. Come Escapay's turn, he also got Meeko (that copy-cat), but he objected to the sparkles and "Cynderella" was greatly saddened and offended.

it's not new actually... the scene and the song have been there for 10 years. It was deleted from the film back in 1995 if I'm not mistaken. I for one am very happy they put it back in the film, since it's my favourite song from the movie.orestes wrote:Great, I can't wait for this... the DVD and the movie but not a crappy new scene.

I can't wait! I am sure the "If I Never Knew You" scene will be colorized and cleaned up.
I actually saw this scene years ago when the film was aired on the wonderful world of Disney oh say in 97-98. After the movie they showed this "lost" animation. I was happy to see that it was "If I Never Knew You". I always wondered where that song came from on the soundtrack, cause I loved it.
From what I can remember, the song is placed after the tribe captures John. He is inside a hut and Pocahontas comes to see him. They sing and she ends up leaving because he tells he to go. As she leaves and goes on the river in her canoe, the song continues with each character, alone, however they are edited as though they are together.
I remember really liking this animation when I saw it. I wondered why it was taken out, because it really drew the two characters even closer together. I know I taped it years ago, but I have no clue which tape it’s on. I can’t wait to see it again. Hopefully it will be as great as I remember.

It is the same animation that was done in 1995, they have just added in the couple of seconds that were missing and colorised it. They have also inserted a short reprise at the end of the film.JiminyCrick91 wrote:PatrickvD wrote:yes it is a great song from what I rember of the of old adio tape I had but was this COMPLETLY finished in animation or will it be redone?

Sunset Girl
As far as I know, the reason that it wasn't included in the film the first time around was because of the "squirm factor" it gave some of the younger members in the test audiences, especially the boys. Forget the fact that it makes the relationship between Pocahontas and John Smith stronger. . .
I avoided the R1 DVD and bought the R2 one just because it included the deleted scene. It's great to know that it will finally be placed back into the film where it belongs. Can't wait!

Do you think we can look for any sort of promotion for Pocahontas 2? We all know that Disney loves to put out sequels on DVD just a few months after the originals' big releases. Pocahontas II (which I think I've seen, but don't really recall), however, is still in print, so I wouldn't think they'd rerelease it. Perhaps we'll see some sort of price slash or mail-in offer or something along those lines?
I believe this is the first time we've had a 2-Disc animated classic released on DVD that already had its sequel on DVD and in-print.
