As a matter of fact, Wicked's score and lyrics were written by one of Disney's 90's era composers! You have to understand, the story of Wicked is filled with political commentary and good/evil philosophy. The songs totally gloss it over. We understand Disney because it's Disney. True lovers of Wicked can't stomach the goodie-goodness of the musical. Even as a musical, the production doesn't stand on its own. It's too "blah."pinkrenata wrote:Sounds like an argument people might use about Disney, I'd say.Prince Eric wrote:... way too broad and the lyrics too family friendly to be taken seriously.

Well, I consider myself a "true lover of Wicked", and after finally seeing the show last week, I can understand that yes, the story has been "Galinda-fied", but not to the point where it can't be stomached, or to the point where it's "goody-good"!Prince Eric wrote:As a matter of fact, Wicked's score and lyrics were written by one of Disney's 90's era composers! Galinda still becomes Glinda, Elphaba still becomes the witch, but just in a way that gives the story a more widespread audience. The book, while amazing, isn't exactly for everyone...

Exactly, and I'm never for glossing over artful messages for the sake of a wider audience.Prince Adam wrote:Well, I consider myself a "true lover of Wicked", and after finally seeing the show last week, I can understand that yes, the story has been "Galinda-fied", but not to the point where it can't be stomached, or to the point where it's "goody-good"!Prince Eric wrote: As a matter of fact, Wicked's score and lyrics were written by one of Disney's 90's era composers!
