I support ichabod in this, I don't really care what type a Disney DVD has, as long as the content on it is good... Of course every type has a certain reputation, but that's only for marketing purposes...
The list of masterpieces?
Lol... No offence but you 2 don't sound very smart at all
Why does having a different opinion about the types of the Disney DVD's make you a non-Disney fan? I happen to know that ichabod is one of the biggest Disney fans on this whole forum... And this IS a discussion forum, I'm sure a lot of people here have different opinions about different subjects and that's why this forum is here, to express those feelings...

How can you say I don't care! Do you really think I would spend my time posting here and buying virtually every DVD that Disney has released. But come on the name Masterpiece edition, platinum edition doesn't matter. here in Europe all 2 disc DVDs are just released as ''special edition''. Let's face it all these names are just marketing tools to make people think OOOOH! a masterpiece edition. I mean what is the difference between Atlantis: Collector's edition and The Lion King: Platinum edition? In short the name of the edition. I'm just annoyed because surely people should be more bothered about what the contents of the DVDs are. Instead every time a 2 disc DVD is released we end up having a thread about what the DVD should be named Platinum, anniversary, masterpiece etc. Why does it matter. Surely what is important is that is a strong 2 discs with plently of bonus fetaures. A good insight into the making of the film, the various stages of production, deleted scenes, unused concepts etc.
I really can't see what people are making a fuss over! But hey if there is something i'm missing something that evryone else can see but I can't as to why it is so important then please tell me!
p.s. Thanks Jens
At least there are others who can see sense!

Hey León y Rebelde (the rebel lions?
) I'm sure Ichabod is a fan and really cares. After all he's just shy one of being one of the top 25 posters on UD! As he said the series name for an individual title is not used the same throughout the world so the differences between lines are very blurred. As I've said a couple of times, the thing (to date) I've found consistent is, on the "Platinum" line, that they are Digital 21rst century reworkings of the movies, like new re-workings of the colors, image structure, and/or remixed soundtrack, etc. Sort of of Snow White 2001 Beauty and The Beast 2002 etc.
But otherwise the differences bewtween 2 disc Vault Disney Masterpiece Anniversary Special Platinum Dark Red Velvetium Collectors Editions is not that great I guess it depends more on the budget and corporate decisions and whos in charge of producing the discs themselves on how high quality and content wise each one turns out to be!
Heh, there' even people here that change or make their own covers, they could change them all to be uniform Platinums Latinums or Adamantiums on the outside while they remain similar or equal on the inside
A rose is a rose by any other name
Ichabod, maybe what you're "missing", is the desire some colletors have to own a series of series :twist: with an uniform pattern and have them all complete as a set.
It's good to look good as a uniform pattern on the mantle table. And be able to say "i have all of this series"
Collecting is not always ruled by logic. If you have 10 LP's of a series and the 11th comes out in a different box, people tend to get a little batty etc
I'm on the camp of content first, names (or "appearances") second and i agree the series "designation' is not that important to me...
btw Rebelde, and Tarzan a little earlier, (and maybe Leon who has posted for a while already), welcome to the forum!

That is the most intelligent thing I have heard in my entire life.Leon wrote:I care if it is masterpiece edition or not because if it is masterpiece edition and I only have one of the masterpieces I would have my collection incomplete.
Ichabod - I agree with you. What's the big deal about being a Platinum Edition or Collector's Edition? It's what the inside that counts.

But does that mean he would buy a DVD of a film that he absolutely hated, just because it was a Masterpiece Edition?

I have to agree with Icabod. It's the contents and the quality that counts. However, everybody has there own way of collecting and we should respect that
. I know everybody on this forum likes Disney or we wouldn't be doing this.

But they could make a disc with a VHS quality transfer, mono out of sync sound and no supplements and call it a Masterpiece Edition.
What point would getting a Masterpiece Edition be then? Obviously its what's actually on the discs that matter the most.

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I totally agree with ichabod. Those names are pretty much meaningless. In most cases it's all about marketing.
As it appears, some buy into this artificial "series collectibility idea", others don't...
The only Disney "banner" that still seems to mean something consistent, IMO, is "Walt Disney Treasures".

No that's not true - When I started collecting Disney DVD's I did so because I liked it. I brought alot of the Disney DVD's because I grew up watching these movies. I never knew about any special editions, gold collection, anniversary editions ect. ect. until I found this forum and the people were talking about the differences. It just does not matter to me - I will buy them if I like them. And again, I am a Disney Fan - and I know you are too. Remember that each person has a different way of collecting. I respect the way you collect and care about the different Editions - but it is not the way I collect.

The truth is that I do care what edition is..., for example:
I dislike the gold collection becasue its only 1 disk and its very short of bonus features, but if there is a movie that I like in gold collection i buy it like hercules, black coulduron and others that i am planning to buy.
Also Platinum Editions is very different and are the best, they have a great restorations, DEHT mix, and the best titles!!!
Also I care about the appearance of the movies, like Bambi, i hated the disc art, but I NEED to buy the movie because i looooove bambi.

the same happens with Maryu Poppins I prefer it to be special edition or any other edition.... but it is 40th anniversary edition!!
but i am going tu buy it because i also loooove that movie!

P.S. I forgot to welcome you to Ultimate Disney, by the way. Welcome...
P.P.S. By the way, I didn't even comment on the whole title thing so you just insulted me for no reason
I don't know why we're bringing this discussion onto a level of personal attacks over the names that Disney has given its various DVDs. There are a couple of lines that have remained (somewhat) consistent since they were launched, primarily the Walt Disney Treasures and the Platinum Editions. Everything else is pretty much what name will sound most appealing to customers. There may never be another Masterpiece Edition, but does that mean we won't ever see another set like Alice in Wonderland? No. We've already seen several pleasing 2-disc sets since then.
A name is a name, and that's not to say you should or shouldn't care about Disney's naming system. It just means that it doesn't define whether you're a real Disney fan or not, and it doesn't give you a right to attack someone you disagree with.
If it needs to proeceed any more, please keep this discussion civil. Thank you.

Well, I don't like to name myself a DISNEY FAN. It sounds too bland. What about Disney Fanatic? Or Patron of the Disneys. Or what about Disney Enthusiast? Member of the Disney Appreciation Society? Disney: Consumer Edition? Or how about this long one: One Who Is One With Disney Because Disney Is Number One. The list goes on and on...but DISNEY FAN I am not. It sounds like some kind of elitist cult in that tone you used. Like how some people say "How can you call yourself a Christian if you do such and such or believe such and such or support such and such?" Isn't it enough to believe there is a God? (of course, now I'm getting off topic, so back to the ridiculous DVD arguments)rebelde wrote:if you really dont care how can you name yourself DISNEY FANS.
REAL Disney fans? So what, we're all fake fans? I'm a fake fan of Disney just because I have no preference as to what word precedes "Edition"? GMAFB.rebelde wrote:real disney fans would care about if it is platinum or collector or anything else.
Why can't we all just get along, join hands in a circle, sing Kumbaya, and fantasize that every Disney DVD is a worthwhile 2-Disc all uniformly named "Disney Edition".
YAY DISNEY EDITION!!! I can see it now. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Disney Edition" so as to differentiate from the various knockoffs by small companies (you know, the kinds you find in $1 bins and such). Or how about this? "Ultimate Disney: Disney Edition", because as far as we all know, there may be another Ultimate Disney (perhaps www.ultimate-disney.com or www.ultimatedisney.net or www.ultimatedisney.org), and this should be the one that gets the seal of approval by the company.
