Thanks for the reply. I so look forward to that new DVD! BTW, my old MP DVD has DVD rot and plays only with major pixelation. Hi Chris, thanks for the welcome. I do not know what specific music was used for the overture and intermission, but have heard from several in-the-know that this did exist at certain original road-show presentations. I was not aware that the old LP overture differed, but will dust mine off and listen to it. I will start another thread on the new MP CD (I don't want to hijack Joe's thread).

Joe, I have another question for you about the film on this new release. I just read somewhere that the original Buena Vista logo and fanfare music have been removed and replaced with the blue Disney Pictures logo. Can you confirm this?

If this is true I'm surprised and downright disappointed. It makes me angry. Why did they make this change now when the previous videos and DVD releases have used the original fanfare and it's even included on the new Special Edition Soundtrack CD?

I suppose something like this should not surprise me considering they never gave us the option to see and hear the Intermission music.

I've been anticipating this release for a long time now and I'm still looking forward to it, but you'd think the studio would have learned how to treat their classic masterpiece with respect by now. Removing the Buena Vista fanfare is messing with a part of the film itself in my opinion.

Well, I hope you have enjoyed my early review of “Mary Poppins”. This is certainly one of Disney’s best releases for any of their films and it rivals “Aladdin” as one of the best Disney DVD releases of the year. It took some time for “Mary Poppins” to receive the digital treatment it deserves, but it was surely worth the wait. Hugely recommended.

I got this DVD today, and after a few quick glances, I'd say this is practically perfect. I think Disney have certainly outdone themselves this time, and as for the Aladdin comparison, I'd say it was apt, exception this is generally a bit meatier.

I also like the return of the "virtual galleries" (in a way):

So the stills are laid on a CGI floor that the camera pans over whenever you select the arrow? That's cool, though I wish it had the little commentary bits from the mysterious Disney hostess, though (she did come back for Mulan's source material reading, so at least she's not fired!).

No, that's what I meant by "in a way"

They just have a nicer layout that your average static still gallery layout.

no, they´re not

but the menu system in the second disc is that way, you can see even the shadows of the people walking above... and no, there´s no commentary on the galleries eigther, at least not in the mexican dvd

What is this glimpse that you refer to...do they show a still or something?
As a huge fan of the film, I'm surprised that I didn't know they had an intermission and/or pre-overture. I always did wonder why the overture sounded slightly different on my old 33 record. I wonder why they didn't include this anywhere else Oh well maybe on the dobule-platinum HD-DVD/Blu-Ray MEGA Spectacular Goldish-Brown Edition that will be coming in August 2022. Grr....

Oh well, i'm sure I'll still be ecstatic about this release nonetheless.

It's not that you weren't allowed to at all. It's that starting a new thread for such a relatively small subtopic WHILE posting the same subtopic within a few longer-lasting and more appropriate general thread topic is redundant and causes clutter.

It would have been fine to leave it in here. But keep in mind, the Press Release thread is the one that gets the most traffic, that most people have subscribed to, and that most people will see. That should be sufficient unless it's something that really screams for a new topic, and even then it shouldn't be copied and pasted.
