Why Disney bothers with the Platinum VHS releases?
It's because of the Plantinum releases that feature "an all new musical number". I know this only applies to two films so far (and The Little Mermaid in 06) But it's another evil tactic by Disney to make you buy it even if you already have an old 80s or 90s VHS copy. Had DVDs not been around I still wouldve bought Lion King Special Edition despite still owning the 1995 VHS

VHS is not a quality product, any studio still offering it is ripping off their consumers. If Disney is focused on providing quality products they wouldn't have made and released the following: the Little Mermaid 2, Hunchback 2, Jungle Book 2, Cinderella 2, Pater Pan 2, Bambi 2, Mulan 2 and the rumoured Snow White 2 , and upcoming cheapquels..............oh yeah and the gazillion low quality pooh movies ::cough::springtime::cough:: I think everyone that comes to this forum watches Disney movies on DVD (at least the majority do, if not all). You don't see Luke or anyone reviewing VHS? We don't have the ultimate Disney VHS list or provide links to VHS or their preorders on amazon or any other retailer. VHS is dead why keep selling it? one word MONEY! so get over it mate!Christian wrote:Will people stop saying this stuff about how Disney just wants to make money? Of course they do! Just like everybody else! If you can seriously say you are not interested in money (and you can't seriously say that) then you can accuse Disney of just doing stuff for money. The difference between you and Disney is that Disney is providing a quality product; at least people buy things from them because they perceive them to be quality products. Obviously you are only here at this forum because you like to watch "Disney movies on DVD." Be logical, people. If Disney did everything with $$$ in mind they would've released Song of the South by now. So they are accused of wanting money if they release something and accused of who-knows-whatever-else-evil-thing if they hold something back.Also because they want all the $$$$ they can get!

btw, just in case, I wanna make clear: notwithstanding my previous 2 posts, I've only bought one pererecorded movie VHS in my life
and it was for the authentic stereo mix. I already have it on two DVD versions already with other soundtrack mixes (coming soon: a third dvd edition, PAL 16:9 coded
)
I would only buy VHS if only it was a last resort. like a version unavailable or impossible to find anymore in DVD. or LD

It ain't dead yet if people are still selling and buying them.MickeyMouseboy wrote:VHS is dead why keep selling it?
Not necessarily. There are actually people out there who will not convert from VHS to DVD, some who can't afford DVD players, or some who are too cheap to upgrade. And there are some people who are just old school and prefer an analog signal over digital. Heck, there are still people who haven't converted from cassette tapes to CDs!VHS is not a quality product, any studio still offering it is ripping off their consumers.

A DVD player can be found for a low price of $39.99 some stores have rebates where you can get one for as low as $29.99 while a new VHS movie is price at $15.99 or so you can get a dvd player just fo r the price of 2 vhs tapes also DVD's are the same price as VHS the first week that it debuts on the format. tapes are so long gone vhs and tapes can only be found @ wal-mart (limited tittles) and online and pay extra for shipping! so it all comes down to VHS and cassette tapes are way more expensive to get than a DVD or CD.Escapay wrote:It ain't dead yet if people are still selling and buying them.MickeyMouseboy wrote:VHS is dead why keep selling it?

LOL, same here! We were very committed to VHS up until Snow White came on DVD, and Kram insisted on buying it (with the logic of: Since we own a DVD, we'll need to get a DVD Player!). It was the only DVD we watched for a few months, which kinda made me sick of it (Snow White) for a couple years.my chicken is infected wrote:Snow White is the reason I asked for a DVD player for Christmas. So I can vouch for that.Luke wrote:Think about how many people on this very forum didn't have a DVD player three years ago when Snow White came out.
IIRC, the order of our earliest DVDs:
Snow White
Ichabod and Mr. Toad (I think Kram got this on sale)
Pearl Harbor
Planet of the Apes (Got it for free when we got our DVD Player)
Swiss Family Robinson (I'm pretty sure that was my first DVD)
