Mine arrived from Amazon.Com all the way to the UK yesterday (Tuesday) so I actually got it on the day or release - not 2 or 3 days later as normal.

Can anyone explain the history of the Tower of Terror? It was an episode of the Twilight Zone, then a Disney park attraction then a film? Is that right? I suppose the film has nothing to do with the TZ episode?

This is kind of like Chicago - a film based on a stage musical based on another film (Roxy Hart) which was in itself based on another film - the silent Chicago of 1927! - There's a whole disc of supplements for the super special edition of the film whenever Disney decide to make it - "The History of Chicago" documentary!

I think it's really stupid that the Disney store doesn't have ANY Disney movies. I went there and all I could find was Disney Princess T-shirts... well, and a few toys and games. Where's the DVD/VHS section?!?!

Didn't they USED to have movies there? And things besides the Disney Princess line? You know, I was talking to my cousin, and she suggested they do a Disney Orphan line for anyone who had a single parent or no parents. That would account for almost everyone, from Snow White, Cinderella, to Jim Hawkins and Dumbo.

I never got too into the Disney Store...it always seemed SO expensive, and now that I use my own money for all of my purchases hehehe it's TOO expensive. When I was lil my mum wouldn't let me go in because I'd always want something! Heheheh!

After making several calls to Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc., I was unable to locate a copy. Why does Disney do this? Why do they announce a release date for a DVD and make it a game to try to locate a copy? Remember The Rescuers just a few months ago? Who's in charge of their marketing? BTW, I didn't even bother to call the Disney Store itself since they don't seem to be carrying but 5 Disney titles these days!

I do not think it is Disney's fault. I have the same problem ...looking for the 'older' movies that are re-released. I think it is Walmart and Targets etc...fault that they do not order it! I kno, it doesn't make sense to me...they'll be the first to get "CARE BEARS season 1" hehehe but will wait like a month before Two Towers or anything like that. I have my local Walmart "wrapped." Hehehe. My friend works there and I make it a HABIT to tell her the release dates, she doesn't kno I'm 'using' her hehehe, and I call in about a week before and ask if they'll get it...it takes a lot of calls. but I found The Rescuers there the week it came out! hehehee

I'm reviving this topic because I wanted to know if anyone knows a instore shopping place that sells this DVD. I would like to buy it (other than over the internet ), becuase then I would have all the movies based on WDW or DL rides. Also, are there any special features? is it WS or Foolscreen?

It's cheesy, but I like it. It's what you would expect of a made-for-TV based on a ride.

I plan to watch the movie tonight, but I like to hear what others here, thought of the film.

I was not even aware there was one, until I went through the gift shop in Hollywood Studios, and saw the DVD on display.

It's OK as far as "Disney Theme Park fan fiction" goes. Not really great, but not unwatchable either. If you're a fan of the ride it's worth seeing once, IMO.

To be honest, it's probably not as cheesy as The Haunted Mansion.

Important thing to note is that it is just a made for TV movie. It stars Steve Guttenberg, whom I always enjoy for some reason, and Kirsten Dunst back when she was doing as much TV as movies. I had a major love of Kirsten Dunst for a long time, so she is often enough to entertain me in a film too, and it was cool to see her in a Disney Halloween film. I wish there were more Disney Halloween films than there are. Hocus Pocus is one of my number one fave Halloween movies and movies in general, but this is another I try to watch every Halloween. My little sister and I both love it. But, I will admit that it has its moments that are so corny they are cringeworthy. But, it's overall got that corny tone of a holiday TV movie, especially with the illogical, feel good ending. Still, it's all so cute it works, like with many holiday telefilms.

Incidentally, according to Wiki, the writer of the film has used the bellhop character in some of his books, which I don't think are Disney, ha. He even mentions locales from the film in his books, possibly even the Hollywood Tower Hotel. I wonder how that works in terms of the legalities... Does Disney know he is using this character I assume belongs to them?

One thing that always disappointed me though, was the lack of any Twilight Zone aspects to the film. I realize that was a legal issue, but it's too bad.

Yeah, I was wondering if this was originally a TV movie, because it sure felt like it.

With that in mind, I thought it was okay for the most part. The ending was a little too happy, but I figure, it's a Disney film with all that fun silliness.

Probably a film I would watch again, shortly before my next trip to Disney World.

I'd say, for the people who love the ride, it's worth checking out and deciding for themselves whether it's entertaining or not.

And it came out in 1997, 9 years before I would ever go on the ride itself for the very first time.

Yeah, I forgot to say it is also good viewing for before a Disney World trip! The thing about the ending SPOILER ALERT that I thought was silly was that the grandson was supposed to get the hotel if the mystery was solved, or something like that (haven't watched it attentively for a while), yet I don't see how they were ever able to prove to anyone that they had solved the highly supernatural mystery. Still, somehow they must have.
